Can we agree that limited sound channels is the worst thing about old games?

I love the NES sound chip!

The "limited" sound channels of the SID produced some of the greatest game music of all time.

The actual sounds created by the chip have little to do with the absolute count of sound channels. Chiptunes are great, but let's not pretend they were actually better because they had to cut out significant portions of songs mid-gameplay

I came here to say what others have already said- I like some of those limitations. It adds to the charm. Sometimes I feel like the modern stuff is so jam-packed with sensory overload, I can't remember as much. I can still remember some 8/16bit era music in my head- not so much with the new stuff.

Behold what a true music wizard can do with just the ZX81's beeper.

The beeper was just 1bit i.e it was either on or off. Thanks to some brilliant software trickery it could be made to produce various notes.

this is true of anything that can generate virbration. Sound is awesome:

The great thing about sound is that it's additive. It's why Software mixing can exist in the first place.
