SquadCast #16: 8-bit Computer Retrospectacular (with IMPROVED AUDIO!) #1

In case you don't follow us on Twitter (and if not, why not? Rectify the situation, NOW!), I'll also announce here that SquadCast number 16 is now available for your delectation.

In it, we discuss the wonders of the 8-bit era proto-PCs such as the Commodore 64 and the Atari range of computers. Well, everyone discusses Commodore 64 and Pete shows some Atari love, anyway.

Featuring a retro-gasmic intro and a selection of fine chiptunes, this is one of our finest SquadCasts yet. Go pick it up, soldier.

Hah, I was thinking about making a thread yesterday so you wouldn't have to pimp yourself. Great show as always, I haven't heard detailed commodore 64 discussion in a long while.

Later in the show you talk about playing D&D online; I did a 4E campaign last year over a client called Fantasy Grounds which I highly recommend. Costs a bit, but most any tabletop system can be run through it, and the interface is top notch.

Hey, if you're feeling motivated in the future, be my guest. ;)

Very cool. We'll have to give this one a test drive. Thanks for the tip. :)

Wonderful to hear the talk of the wondrous Alternate Reality for the 8-bit!

Revolutionary gameplay and incredible music (nice graphics too):

Same team (Gilbertson and Price) did the fantastic Tail of Beta Lyrae (superior Scramble type game with some of the best 8-bit music around):

Nice podcast, I have subscribed.

Thanks for the links, beermonkey. Jedi will be especially interested in these.

Speaking of Jedi, be sure to check out his blog for an expanded take on Alternate Reality. Here's the address:

Well I for one feel learned. I wonder though if anyone here can help me with the emulation issues I had mentioned on the show. Like I said, everything loaded, but only H.E.R.O. responded to control inputs. But the little lights in the emulator itself told me the buttons were being pressed in everything else, so I have no idea why the ROMs did nothing.
