I'm really eager to play this, that French video was good. I liked how the player missed when firing at a mannequin, and thus electrocuting the whole fence behind it; nice detail.
Graphics seem good, pop in is a bitch though. My only problem, which I've had for a while now judging from other videos: the city seems so lifeless. Sure there's people running around and driving cars, but nobody says a word (up until a cutscene). Still getting this day 1 though :D |

im still getting this for sure but the french vid was not very encouraging in terms of what the game world is like.
why were there ppl just lying on the ground sort of twitching near where he first went down to ground level? why is every fifth car the same crushed police car? why are ppl just running in the streets for no good reason despite the fact they arent screaming and there is no indication of a riot or mass panic beyond the cut scene? the music when he fights the gang is awesommmmmeee! |

That was a master troll from Gantz. Golf clap. Looks like State of Emergency and has bad graphics, is a trademark Playstation game, and you can't wait for Prototype. That is seriously impressive.
edit: AA beat me by like 4 seconds :lol |

Ok, first of all, thanks to the people who tried to defend me. Fact of the matter is that I screwed up and said something I shouldn't have, so I deserved to be chewed out by GAF. That's fine, I'll just leave it at that.
Now onto impressions: Graphics Like many of you have already noted, they're not "OMG MY EYES ARE BLEEDING FROM THE AWESOME!" There's pop in, I've experienced some frame drops when things got hectic, aliasing on shadows, facial animations could be better...pretty much everything you guys said already. BUT the graphics are definitely NOT PS2 graphics, and they are not bad by any means. They're actually pretty good for an open world game, and the effects for Cole's powers look awesome. So in short, if you're looking for Killzone 2 graphics, you're gonna be disappointed. If not, you should be satisfied. Gameplay The gameplay takes the cake for me. It's so fun climbing any and everything, jumping off buildings, shooting stuff with lightning, all that good stuff. I spent a good 30 minutes just screwing around when I first had the chance to. You just feel awesome moving around like that...it's like a mix between Altair and Nathan Drake. The missions aren't bad either. I spent most of the day yesterday just doing side quests instead of moving the actual story. There's a good variety of side quests in the game, not the same 3 or 4 missions like in Assassin's Creed. I found out later on that doing the story missions are important too, since they usually unlock more awesome powers that'll make the side quests easier. As for the world, it's not as lifeless as some of you may think. I haven't seen the video that was posted, but I'm guessing it's from the beginning of the game where you're like "What in the world are these people doing?" It all makes sense as the game progresses. The way the crowd reacts to you is based on your Karma. I'm playing the good side for my first run, so as I run by people they cheer me on, take pictures of me, yell out that I'm awesome, and ask for help. Don't know how they'll react when you're evil yet. Story Like I said, I'm not very far into the story yet. I'm not really expecting much story-wise, but I like what I've seen so far. I'm only on the first island so things are pretty slow right now. I'm hoping it'll pick up soon. Other Stuff There is an install at the beginning of the game - it takes about a minute. Sound effects and music are awesome. Controls work well. There are a lot of powers at your disposal, so I imagine it was difficult making a control scheme for them, but once you learn them it'll come naturally. The comic book presentation is great. So yeah, those are initial impressions after about 3-4 hours of play. I'll try to get some more time in tonight and post again if I have any additional impressions. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer them. I'm at work though, so I might not have the answers right away. |

I think one of the reasons inFamous looks like a much better recapturing of that kind of Crackdown platform experience is that it's a new city built from the ground up. As impressive as Prototype's Manhattan might end up looking, it wasn't built for climbing. I think that's why they've gone with a much less engaging mechanic of superleaping and gliding to get around the city, as opposed to inFamous' buildings that were expressly made for climbing. It could be that there is more of that in Prototype that hasn't been shown, but it seems much more focused on broadbased flying (wings, helicopters, etc) than dizzying climbing scenarios (like that sick-ass tower inFamous has).
