I'd further add that I can't even stand the term fanservice itself.

It's like this whitewashed term that distances the fan from the embarrassingly distasteful nature of the associated content.

I'm not the Morality Police and have no interest in telling others what they should enjoy, but why not at least man up and call this smut exactly what it is. Fetishist soft-core porn at best, often skating dangerously close to CP at worst, and virtually always derogatory & objectifying of women.

Nah, we'll call it fanservice. That's far more palatable.
Yup, this too. I used to think "fanservice" was stuff like Marvel vs. Capcom or SSB - but now it means cheap sex pandering.

- Witcher 3 is, at most, a decent game. Great writing, great characters, boring exploration and bland gameplay. Exploring points of interest is a chore. I really want to enjoy it more, as the story is really interesting, but I lack motivation to get back to the game.

- I believe that, if Bethesda slapped their logo in a (bugged) piece of turd, it would receive at least 20 GOTYs nominations. Like happened with Fallout 3.

People are more invested in the idea of Nintendo--as a foil to MS and Sony, as a grand innovator, as the last bastion of "real games"--than the actual company and its products. Kinda like how people only want AMD around to keep Nvidia cards cheap (which hasn't even worked that well in recent years, LOL).

I don't know about others but thats kind of how I feel about Nintendo. I like the companies philosophy towards games and I hope they stick around and don't do a Sega and go multiplatform, but there aren't actually many games they put out that interest me a whole lot.

I think Journey is a terribly boring, overrated game that MOST people only like because they are trying to be "artsy" and act like they enjoy deep hidden meanings.

It's ok if you find the game boring or overrated...but to say people only like it because they're trying to be artsy is bullshit.

I feel like The Witcher 3 is well written in terms of characterisation and narrative, but it just has far too much dialogue to demonstrate simple things. I'm currently in Novigrad, and since completing the Bloody Baron's quest line I've found myself more and more just reading the subtitle and skipping the voicing part, sometimes just skipping entire lines. Yeah, this might be a shrinking attention span on my part, but I just feel like there is a lot which could've been accomplished by the characters doing something than just discussing it for a long time. Similarly, not a lot of the dialogue is saying something interesting, and good vocal delivery can only drag it so far.

Shenmue III and the FF7 remake will massively disappoint fans. Their predecessors are so well regarded because they were released at the perfect time.

Sony and Square will not be able to recreate the magic of those games.

Bioware has to be one of the most overrated developers around for me. Buggy games, abysmal animation... don't even get me started on Mass Effect and Dragon Age (haven't played Inquisition). They're so poorly animated that even if they have great story, I just can't seem to finish them.

Dragon age Inquisition has one of the worst stories and boring villains in any RPG i have ever played and most of the party members and very forgettable.

Alien Isolations has one of the most amazing atmospheres ever, but the game is so bad it deserves less then the IGN review. What a boring hide and seek game.

So disingenuous.

You seem to like Silent Hill 2, but can't understand people enjoying "deep hidden meanings" in other kind of games? Remember the Fukuro video? I think that's the very definition of "artsy". And I'm a big fan of SH2 as well.

It's 3 years later and I still don't understand the big deal about the ending to Mass Effect 3.
Can't you just be disappointed without acting like assholes and sending passive aggressive cupcakes to developers so they can redo an ending to a great trilogy? Why couldn't people just say the ending sucked and moved on?
Instead gamers embarrassed and humiliated themselves by acting like complete tools.
It easily has to be in the top 5 of horrible shit gamers have ever done. It's a complete shit stain that solidifies that you shouldn't cater to the hardcore, that they hate everything and aren't worth it. That if you don't have an immensely thick skin then you don't belong in the gaming industry because you'll be bullied and ridiculed by pathetic geeks.

Thinking about it now years after, and I still can't believed it happened.

The harassment that Bioware got around Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3's releases depressed me. I was saddened to be part of communities and circles that cheered on the mocking of devs with a gift of cupcakes (one of the tamer messages sent), just a very short time after a writer on Dragon Age 2 got singled out as a target of a sexist bullying campaign. It was relentless.

I want to think that we as a collective are moving in a more thoughtful and compassionate direction. I really hope we see significantly less instances of devs (and all people) casually being mocked, harassed and threatened in the future.

Most of the people who say they should go third party aren't that interested either. They would have a WiiU and/or a 3DS if they were--both can be had for way less than the other consoles and have no online fee.

In terms of quality & specs for their time, Sony's handhelds do indeed shit over the home consoles. The PSP was more mindblowing than any Xbox/Sony home console.

Agreed. They just make sense. The UI fits that 16:9 aspect ratio beautifully, and all meaningful advances from both the PSP and PSV were brought to their respective home consoles.

I also found their hardware impressive, as it married many of Sony's technologies into one gamified device.

I was active on the Bioware forums back then and couldn't take it and ended up only frequenting the multiplayer forum which actually had a fun community. The weekly balance changes were epic with so many tears spilled over this or that gun getting nerfed.

I enjoyed the combat in Witcher 2 and 3, and overall thought it was good in both games. I didn't even know people hated on The Witcher 2's combat till I started reading GAF. Witcher 3 improved the combat from 2 in virtually every way, and I didn't have any issues during my play-thru.

Shenmue III deserves to be made.

Also, the PS Vita is Sony's best console.

:X

Definitely agree from my experience.

Really weird how that's considered a controversial opinion by the way.

Agreed. I was really mindblowed when I saw a PSP for the first time and someone was playing a game on it. Graphics were really mindblowing and I perceived them to be on the same level of graphical quality as PS2 games of the time. Was even amazed when I saw someone playing videos on it in really good quality as well. Was really a forward-thinking device.

Heck, I played God of War: Ghost of Sparta in 2014 for the first time (on PSP) before I had a PS Vita and it still managed to impress me with the graphics.

There's a difference in that good games are tainted by unnecessary fanservice. It's even more sad when ancient, genre-defining series like Fire Emblem suddenly couldn't exist without tacky and sometimes downright creepy fanservice.

Good games can be tainted by both types of fanservice. What's the difference?

I'm playing Dark Souls (60 fps on PC) and Bloodborne simultaneously and maaaan Dark Souls kinda doesn't hold up. The level design in the first third of Dark Souls is great, and it just has this sort of... magic to it, but man it's easy as hell once you know the tricks to the series (invincibility frames, parrying, backstabbing) and the combat is pretty simple in comparison. :S

There are enemies that I use to remember being intimidated by and it's so easy to just walk around them and backstab. And leap attacks can fuck up just about 85% of all enemies.

I haven't played Dark Souls in ages and it feels like I'm speed running it.

edit: Also holy shit I forgot how convoluted the weapon upgrading is.

Oh my fucking god, "Dead Money" (Fallout NV) is the worst fucking piece of garbage I've ever played. I've been playing video games for over 20 years and never have I played such a garbage fucking game/expansion. I love New Vegas, but holy fuck. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to design this is fucked in the head. I had to revert to an old save in the Mojave because I couldn't even force myself to finish it. Utter fucking garbage.

This one is blunt: You're not a true gamer if you don't like Nintendo or find their games fun. They are certainly not perfect. However, you fail to understand what gaming is or what video games are about if you don't at least respect them. They are one of the few Japanese companies that still gets it

This sentiment is faux-patrician fanboyism, nothing more.

Nintendo has no monopoly on "true gaming". I enjoyed my 3DS a lot before I had to sell it, but not any more than my favorite games on Sony platforms or PC over the years. In fact, I would go so far as to say the idea of being a "true gamer" is merely a club people use to beat down different tastes or opinions they don't agree with. It has no value in games discussion at all IMO.

The term "true gaming" is just cringe-worthy bollocks anyways.

Too Human was a really fun game. I just played through it again and I wish there was a sequel by another developer. I'm guessing MS doesn't own the rights to this right?

Those little guys that shuffle around like gnomes in Halo, with their squeaky comedic voices, totally ruin the whole experience.

I found Xenoblade Chronicles to be pretty boring. Endless fetch quests and hotbar combat made it drag along until I stopped playing it.
I'll probably still get Xenoblade Chronicles X.

I think gamers are too scared about the idea of mobile games. I understand the fear of micro transactions and not liking the controls but there are so many great experience I feel people are missing due to this weird prejudice.
Mobile games are just as bad and good as console gaming is. I would never not play console games because of terrible season passes on big AAA games.

Just played through Bloodborne with a friend and found it extremely disappointing. It's not even half as long as Dark Souls 2, with barely any weapons or outfits! Where is my fashion souls? I couldn't believe it when we reached the final boss, it feels like half a game. And no, we didn't do all the chalice dungeons, because they were boring filler.

Dark Souls 1> Dark Soul 2>>>>>>>> Bloodborne

The best looking outfits are tied to optional quests and chalices, or hidden in the environments. The later chalices, like Ailing Loran, Isz, and Ihyll are far more interesting that the first Pthumeru ones. I take it you only played those?

I think vita is the cesspool of video gaming. It has all the things that disgust hardcore gamers (Borderline Hentai games, indies).

Consoles as the lead development platform is perfectly fine and we'd never get the production values that current AAA games like GTA5 and Witcher get without console gamers buying games at full retail value whilst PC gamers go for the GMG 25% off coupon/stolen keys/piracy and an overall "wait for the Steam sale" attitude.

Half-Life?

Half Life suffers from the "Seinfeld is unfunny" trope for me.

I'm sure it was great at the time, but I didn't play it at said time and I feel like a ton of other games have done better. I just don't care for Half Life at all really because there's no nostalgia in it for me. Instead of remembering some magical time I just see it as a bit of an awkward, dated game. It's the same reason why I hate Nintendo games.

I find mobile gaming to be superior to handheld gaming. The prices of most Vita games are okay but the good ones are also available on Android or ios and is usually cheaper. 3DS games are simply way too overpriced.

I would rather play those 3DS games on a console. Handheld games used to be about their pick up and play nature but mobile satisfies those needs much better now.

Besides, nothing quite compares to Hearthstone on the train.

Best wishes.

I played it (and HL2) back then. Nothing magical about the games. Quake 1/2 and F.E.A.R. were always better games. Half-Life (1) was just special at the time because of scripted sequences and more story focus. Overrated franchise.
