I don't blame anyone for this, and I don't generalize either - I was surprised the first time I read political threads on GAF because it was far from the picture of the US drawn by Euro TV (and, to some extent, by a part of my family that lives there). I'm just saying that this country is currently becoming a fucking hell where any rich douchebag can become president as long as he worships God and find the right scapegoats (which is also true in Europe, at least for the scapegoats).

I don't see America as a democracy anymore. The republicans will win a few elections because democrats will lose votes for health care-like topics that don't please rednecks, then piss their pants when they'll see that China is becoming more powerful than them, vote a few authoritarian economic/social laws that'll be accepted because they "defend the basis of our nation" and "are justified by the love of God"... and, I don't know, maybe Europe will follow.

And we'll still have advertisings that say "your vote is important", meanwhile.

I live in New York -if that matters- and agree with just about every word.

I did read it. Multiple times you mention "this" country as if you live in it. I'll bold them. Now that I know you don't, perhaps you shouldn't word yourself as if you do?
Language problem. I used "this" but didn't think much about it.

That is called generalizing. Horribly inaccurate generalizing, at that. There is no constructive argument that can be molded as a response. Also, you seem to be the only one here presenting yourself in a whining fashion. Spitting misaligned vitriol.
It would be generalizing if I was applying it to every individual in the country, and I don't. There is no argument that you can answer because it's a feeling I have and that is shared by other people, coming from things we saw or heard. The best argument will be the day we stop hearing fox news spreading bullshit (I still remember when they said that our suburban riots were some kind of islamic civil war), regular people holding God like north koreans are holding Kim Jong-Il and politicians saying that America should punish a country that didn't let them attack Iraq.

Yes, you do, and you do it in an attempt to be taken seriously. And reading GAF is no indicator of the US and its citizens. Also, religion's influence on politics is a world issue. Are you as mad about it regarding other countries, as well?
I know that GAF isn't an indicator. It just proved me that there was a huge leap between members of my family and the average liberal gaffer, the latter won't vote for the candidate that "respects God".

It's not an issue in what we like to call western democracies - or at least, I don't believe it is. It certainly not is in France, even if I don't think a muslim could win a presidential election, but people never vote for a christian leader because of his faith - excepted, of course, the extreme-right.

Yeah those damn rednecks! They by far outweigh the slightly politically intelligent in the US, right?
I don't know about the "by far", but the best candidate for the last election was a pretty obvious choice to me, and he easily could have failed without the crisis.

I think it's the people who just don't care that outweight everyone by far. (once again, I blame success)

Once again, do you mean you have those ads in France, or the US?
France.
