Scheduled to launch in 2011 on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Staying true to the franchise's original roots, the game returns with another third person horror experience, and an all new thought provoking storyline. Players will once again find themselves face to face with their deepest sins and fears in the strange world of Silent Hill.

"In honoring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, we're working hard to build a next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve," said Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "This Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror."

The survival horror experience begins after a prison transport vehicle careens off the road, leaving lone inmate Murphy Pendleton stranded in Silent Hill. Gamers will encounter mind-bending puzzles, as well as horrific creatures and other world terrors using everyday objects from wooden chairs to glass bottles to fend off their enemies. The natural response, fight or flight is left to the player as they unravel a dark, thought-provoking storyline which will appeal to fans of the early, classic Silent Hill series, as well as anyone who enjoys a deep, psychological horror experience. In addition to the main storyline, players will also be presented with variable side quests along the way that can change depending on their play style, revealing unknown evils within the town.

Silent Hill 8 (working title) is scheduled to launch in 2011 on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

If it has little to do with Shattered Memories then count me in, whatever the outcome.

I'm been very skeptical of it. But that actually looked good. The character model for the main character wasn't great, but the atmosphere was spot on for Silent Hill. It also seems like it's an original title, and that earns them major points.

Meh at Daniel Licht. Never really liked the Dexter soundtrack too much (outside of the main theme).

Actually meh at this whole thing. These new developers have a lot to prove.

I'm just glad the new composer has roots in classic horror cinema. That's pretty awesome.

Guys the trailer just aired at the Hookah conference. Give it a bit to come online :lol

At first glance, it didn't catch the SH vibe at all. If it didn't have SH tagged on as a title, it would be near impossible to identify it as part of the series.

- Overall style seemed so generic
- Graphics were mediocre
- Yamaoka was sorely missed

Will keep an open mind, but first impression was awful. :(

No, they said it wouldn't be like SH:SM. They said it wouldn't be like SH:H either.

Besides, he picked up a gun, so there's definitely going to be some kind of combat.

I thought i heard them say "no combat", but the trailer definitely indicated that combat, at least to some extent, is present.

wasn't that the police officer woman with the gun?

i could swear they said it would be like SH:SM with the no-combat thing. :( if not.

Haven't seen the trailer but this is good in my eyes.
It shouldn't be too combat focussed but I hated, HATED, the chase sequences in Shattered Memories.

The main character picked up a gun at some point and shot somebody, but it was vague in the trailer as to whether it was a cutscene sort of moment or not. He could be reliving why he's going to jail.

The protagonist picked up a gun and shot a humanoid bald zombie/ghost thing coming up behind him. As far as I remember, Gomez said the combat system would be enhanced.

The Silent Hill that we knew and love is dead and I'm hungry for more horror games so I'll gladly take this.

I enjoy that composer's work on Dexter, but he doesn't hold a candle to Akira Yamaoka.
Well at least it will be a breath of fresh air on the music side of things.

Amazing shot there. That's the first time the town has really been shown like that, in a more compressed yet detailed way. The clock tower off in the distance is nice, and you can see the familiar garage buildings in the lower part of the screen.
