https://store.steampowered.com/buyitem/347300/77730 (2000 Destiny silver for $20)

I believe this has been posted about before, but I hadn't ever seen the items page and I found it strange it's still being updated despite the Battle.net partnership announcement. Even if this were for Destiny 2, wouldn't they be distributing the client through Battle.net by now?

Last Record Update 10 days ago (August 4, 2017 – 05:39:10 UTC)

The listings are for Destiny Silver and specifically mention and link to Bungie by name using the Destiny trademarked logo and everything.

There were listings for Halo 1, 2, and 3 on Steam before. Not sure how this gets through but maybe just management getting bored?

It's possible that Activision were thinking about releasing the game on Steam, but decided to just do D2 instead utilizing their own service (Blizzard Client).

Just so everybody's on the same page: the app is regularly updated and the items were implemented earlier in the year.

The likelihood of this actually being Destiny 1 PC is practically nil, so either it's Destiny 2 and the descriptions and icons are placeholders or an indie dev borrowed Destiny's silver microtransactions for testing. Personally, the fact that the icon images are sourced from Bungie.net, PlayStation.com and XboxLive.com has me leaning towards the latter.

It could be set up like Uplay games, where Steam downloads the data and the game is launched through a slightly lighter version of the client that lacks a store and microtransaction support (Valve requires that microtransactions use Steam Wallet).

Could it be for this F2P game?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/49...ient_Kingdoms/

Some games have in game purchases that you can't get through Steam. PUBG for example, you can only buy keys in game

seems like stuff for D2 bought on steam (for later release, most likely)

Could it possibly be a F2P version of destiny 1 for Steam?

I mean, unless does anyone know if the console versions had the option to buy this as microtransaction DLC? Otherwise obviously Destiny 2.

What would even be the point of F2P Destiny 1 when they're about to release D2 on PC? It would cannibalize their own sales.

This is a poor example thats basically an apple and oranges comparison, but with Halo Wars 1 being released on Steam, and Halo Wars 2 not at least being officially announced for release for Steam (as of yet, as far as I know anyway), it shows some companies do weird things in different ways. Difference here is different company, different background and franchise and none of them was f2p.

Other than this though, unless the images from SteamDB are placeholders, or this being an elaborate and clever troll, it seems like the 1st one could be coming in some form to PC, no?

Neither Destiny 1 or 2 are coming to Steam. There's no reason for Activision or Bungie to do that.

You're all confusing some poor indie dev who threw these microtransactions into a WIP game.

Windows Store games have been coming to Steam with delayed releases largely because Microsoft is having problems finding an audience on the Windows Store, and with crossbuy not working on Steam, it's essentially a whole other market for them.

Blizzard on the other hand has a massive audience on their platform already, and they've already established it would be released there.

From there, Activision reaps all the profits from both game sales and microtransaction sales without having to split it with Valve.

It could've had something to do with the PlayStation Store -> Steam connectivity, right? Just a weird side effect from that?

Seems more like at one time plans were made for a destiny launch on PC or leaked testing for D2 stuff. Either way, I don't expect the game to show up on steam until a bit after launch.

Technically, he just said that the microtransactions shouldn't have been purchasable, which is obvious as the base app is still private. But he's inadvertently confirmed the app does indeed belong to Bungie, which, when coupled with its most recent update being mere days ago and the items being implemented earlier in the year, makes for one very interesting situation.

Destiny 1 PC makes little sense at this point. It has to be Destiny 2.

I think they said early on that they would consider a Destiny PC version down the road. I imagine at some point -- especially with their pipeline issues -- that it was just smarter to focus on Destiny 2 PC rather than putting in all the work to port Destiny 1 to PC when it was nearing its end.

Yeah, although the listing was made about 3 years (~1/2 year from console D1 launch) it does seem likely it was at one time made for D1, so either it was reworked as a D2 listing or a D1 goty for PC for ??? reasons

Could be Steam bug as Killer Instinct items are purchasable too (or at least transaction can be started).

Yes, but I it's not out yet, and microtransactions probably shouldn't be purchasable.

Now I'm even more curious as to why its on there and being updated in the first place. This isn't just some indie dev with Steamworks access messing around.

They were plausibly considering Steam before Battle.net and were using Destiny 1 stuff to test.

Yeah, a link to that tweet was posted by Rexatality in this very thread a few hours after it was published. ;)

Most likely, especially given the age of the app, but that wouldn't be the full story as it has been touched by Bungie's hand more than a dozen times since the Battle.net announcement, most recently a few days ago (or just under two weeks ago if we assume that change was nothing more than the items being rendered non-purchasable). Something is afoot.
