Gonna try uber with my overclock enabled now CPU wise. Was getting like 11fps in the first scene before but that was without CPU OC'd.

I Got an MSI GTX 460 1GB Cyclone. I assume its easy to overclock using that tool? I never overclocked my hardware before. Kinda scares me.

All ubersampling does is improve the AA and AF people, nothing more. That's why some textures seem sharper. It's caused by the uber AF.

Seriously. I'm gonna give the AFR profile solution posted by Pahamrick a shot when I get off work. (Thanks for mentioning this OP!)

Gotta say though, next single gpu card that gives me a 30% performance increase over my 5970 gets my money. This business of waiting for a game to be crossfire/sli optimized is getting old.

It says the setup file is corrupted. Downloading the whole thing again will take another five hours, and I need that time to finish TW1.

Anyway, after pre-loading the game I moved the files to another drive then moved the downloader's download location to the same spot. When I started it up again, it downloaded the entire game again (but I didn't see any change in that folder). I restarted it and then got the last parts.

Same here. I'm sick to death of waiting for profiles, suffering piss-poor performance and tons of graphical artifacts. I'm going single-GPU next time.

I take it Ubersampling is basically supersampling? Anyone know what the degree of super sampling is? (2x horizontal? 2x vertical? Or both?).

I wouldn't expect to see any difference in performance. Supersampling is purely a GPU bound operation. Increasing the CPU clock would have no impact, as your GPU is the bottleneck in this case.

Same here. SLI is not worth it, unless you MUST have the added performance in a game where you know SLI will work. But otherwise, too many issues with games here and there makes it more of a pain than anything.

Despite this it still says all the CHUNK files were last modified on the 10th.

Go for it. OC'ing your gpu is like very harmless and easy. You can easily revert if shit hits the fan.

I did see a noticeable increase. I will give uber 1 more run just for a screenshot or 2.

I was in the upper 40's on the highend before re-enabling my CPU OC. Now I was at 60 and above on ultra.

More tinkering to come.

Can You Run It? says my 6770m fails even the minimun, but that shouldn't be dammit.

Guys, this game is destroying my PC.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5600+ @ 2.9 GHz
ATI HD Radeon 4670 1GB
4GB DDR2 667 RAM

The game auto-detects to low settings. I've fumbled with the resolution (max: 1680x1050), bringing as far down as 1280x800, but nothing seems to help. In fact, I think I was getting better frames when selecting medium settings over low.

So, based off my specs, what advanced graphics options should I stay completely clear from? I don't know what a lot of them mean, like texture downscaling, texture memory, etc. Right now I'm average 15 fps no matter what I do it seems.

Thoughts?

You're getting 60fps with uber on or off? I was saying that you shouldn't see an increase with uber on, going by the performance results posted so far (~25fps on GTX 580). That is, unless they're supersampling through the CPU, which would be a terrible idea.

Sounds to me like the game just isn't scalable at all. Unless the poor performance is a result of bad drivers, there's not much hope other than getting better hardware. The question remains: where does the bottleneck lie? Hopefully I can run some tests tonight and give people an idea of how CPU and GPU affect performance.

One suggestion: open task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and go to the performance tab. Run the game for a bit. See how stressed your dual-core CPU is. If it's running at 100%, then you've got a CPU bottleneck.

They pretty much expect you to. All you have to do is key in the clock speeds you want and its done. The only way to screw up the card is to play with the voltage.

Better to ask for specifics in the PC thread though.

Hmm, Toasty's specs are pretty similar, which is encouraging.
It runs well enough on my C2D with a 5870 on medium(ish). Not exactly buttery smooth but at least the framerate is consistent, cutscenes run pretty smooth so far though.

One huge problem is the fact that my drivers crashed and my computer hardlocked, dunno if it's the game or AMD's fault. Anyone else on 11.5 experiencing this? Only happened once and I hope that's it.

Also, I have a lame ol' 4:3 monitor, can I turn widescreen off? Black borders are pretty ugly.

Edit: Scratch that, after you get out of that tower the framerate dips to 22. Ew. Gonna have to fiddle with the CPU intense settings I guess. Or pray I get a summer job.

Sorry for not being so clear, I'm still basically in R&D mode messing with things. I was getting 60 and up on average with ULTRA settings and vsync off.

I decided to try uber and was getting 18-45 depending on where I was at in the following shots. Averaging in the upper 20's for the most part but dipping as low as 18 but no lower in any occurrence.









THese shots look almost the same as ultra without uber. Not worth the performance hit in my opinion.

Game only runs at 16:9 resolutions without borders. A future patch will allow 16:10 resolutions without the borders, but there are currently no plans for native 4:3 resolution support.

Well, I have the game minimized, and my CPU Usage is around 1%-10%.

Any suggestion on what to disable without compromising visual fidelity?

I'm on a i5 750 and gtx480, I get strange framerates, from smooth to unplayable with everything set to ultra or recommended (which is ultra minus ubersampling and some other options).

I'm updating the drivers now.

Where's the graph at it's highest point? Sure, it'll go down to nothing when you minimize, but just keep the task manager up while you play the game, and it will graph CPU utilization while the game is running.

I'm installing the game and will post performance soon.

Can someone suggest if i should go with Nvidia 270.61 WHQL certified or Beta 275.27. I've got a GTX 460

Edit: Witcher 2 FB page suggests NVIDIA card owners use the latest beta drivers for a performance boost http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-wi...ta-driver.html
NVIDIA claims 400 and 500 series GPUs will see better performances.

Just an update, I turned off motion blur and SSAO and now I'm getting 25-35 fps wish an ocassional dip into the 40's in indoor areas.

I have a GTX 460 as well. Make sure to post what CPU you are using and what resolution you are playing at.
