Is there any way we can better organize this awesome thread? Maybe create a google docs spread sheet where the covers (game titles) are listed with the gaf post#... link it in the op and then when things are added the contributor can just quickly update the spreadsheet?

Or anything... it's just that the thread is getting long and it's difficult to search for specific requests/games.

edit: I will do this tomorrow: I'll go through the thread and organize all submissions into a google doc. Then pm link to the OP. Hopefully contributors will update the sheet themselves, or pm me to do it. Whatever is easiest for everyone. But I think we should organize this, and get easier access to everyone's hard work!
Sounds good man, let us know what to do, I'll update my contributions just tell me how.

That 3D look template, available somewhere, must have missed it?
Rengoku's the man to talk to, he made it himself. PM him, don't know if he wants to post it for the general public so I rather not post it myself since it isn't mine. :)

This is going to be a toughie, isn't it? :(

I can't find any hi-res pictures for this game. So I moved on to real-life UFC pictures, but I can't seem to find suitable ones.

Anyone can help?

All right man, I have no clue what I was doing since I don't follow UFC at all so... hope they are to your liking.

Its something I had been working on aside from making the actual covers. See below for the template. The zip also comes with an action script that automates the conversion to the 3D look. You'll need Photoshop CS5, but if you have an earlier version, try it out and see if it works.

Xbox 360 3D Template (Instructions included)

PSP 3D Template (Instructions included)

Nintendo DS 3D Template (Instructions included)

Please note that the Nintendo DS template & script is made to work with the US template (3260 x 1370) only which is slightly different to the EUR template (3292 x 1368).

Here's my attempt at Dark Souls, kinda limited with whats out there.

YEAH!! that's what i'm talking about!

thanks

The spreadsheet sounds great. We could also use a title change so it's not just 'PS3' in the title. :p

...

OH GOD THAT DARK SOULS COVER! :O

Now if we can just get a minimalist DS template out there we're in business.

Also, where are you guys finding all the super high-res art for these games? I tried to look for material for Deus Ex but couldn't find anything bigger than 1080p.

Just tried it out and it works fine in CS4 also, reflection don't fade off like your versions though (after saving to PNG), but I'm not fully used to Photoshop (I'm using PSP X3). But it is impressive, nicely done.

I'll have a minimalist DS template posted in like 20 minutes or so.

Are you enabling transparency in your png export settings? Maybe thats it.

Awesome job Penguin nerd! I like what you did alr1ghtstart! Looking at how you did that DS one, I guess we should move towards that minimalistic style with just the Spine logo and the front logo and nothing else? If so I'll edit my previous ones to keep them all the same. These ones follow that style.

Awesome, but I didn't ask for these(will print out for when I get the game this week.)

I apologize if this has been addressed in here, which it probably has, but it's late; anyway, I'm curious what the most efficient way of printing these out is? Do most folks just use their home printer?

Woops just noticed while I was looking for this Rengoku had already made a very similar one for Deus EX hehe.

Someone posted a sick one for DMC4 a few pages pack.

I have no idea, as I said Photoshop is latin to me ^^.

Anyways this is what I just did.. For a FUTURE game.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything

or a list of all the box arts?

I will organize this tomorrow and get it into the OP. For now you just have to search through the thread or ask for something.

We should address this in the OP as well.

There are quite a few impressions in the thread, but it seems people are trying a mixture of things. Some going to Kinkos, others are printing at home. I'll try and gather the impressions that are scattered through the thread and put them together.

I brought a ps3 cover sample to kinkos, they helped me pick the glossy paper. I printed 25 covers for 17 bucks

So how does it work? Do you bring all the images on a USB drive and they do all the printing and measurements for you?

I got a really fugly Saints Row 2 cover (yellow "Playstation Best") which I wanna get rid of -- first GAFer to design a new one, I'll name my first born after your username!

Yup. No need for measurement, the img is already the right size

Aww yeah man!!
Thank you!

You have no idea how long this game has been bothering me, I had it in a PSN card box, lol.

Those are perfect, in fact, the problem will be deciding which one to print out.

Thanks again :)

I've made the same thing, way back when UC2 came out. Looking at what he's done, I think I've spent way more time color correcting, pulling out detail, and reconstructing the image behind the logo so that I don't have to put a giant opaque glow there like he did, but I like that he managed to remove that ugly red triangle successfully. I spent so much time getting other stuff right, that I couldn't bother with that anymore. *Edit* Nevermind that, my version doesn't have triangle anymore either :p

Btw, on the top side of this I have left just a bit more black gradient, so that when you're cutting, you can cut into black a bit so that you don't have the residual white paper where you could see it the most.

Print it on a nice glossy photo paper using a good ink jet printer, it looks very good.

Oh cool, I didn't expect to see this after making that post over a month ago.

I love all of the minimalist art you guys are doing, but I don't like having it in place of official art. Even though it looks better most of the time, it just doesn't feel right.

Did you have a problem when printing these w/ size? I open them on my PC and they seem the proper size for the game boxes. However when I go to office max and they open them in MS Publisher they're slightly off so they have to increase their size to hit the Playstation case size. Anyone else having this issue?

no, kinkos didn't have this problem. they never had to resize anything.

Hmm, I wonder what's up w/ that then. It doesn't really have any effect on the image quality besides my FF case b/c it still has text on the back so it looks a little off.

Okay here they come. A lot of these are for the future:

Now, this was my very first attempt and the material I had on-hand wasn't of the highest quality, so please bear with me.

EDIT: Oh, forgot one.

Here's a DS minimalist template. I changed the layout a tiny bit to better coincide with how the other minimalist templates are.

Okay, last request: you think it would be possible to do a Games For Windows template? One for thick cases and one for standard DVD cases? I guess for the standard DVD-size cases I could just take the Xbox template and replace the Xbox logos with GFW logos.
