I may be having a similar issue not sure. I've been through the whole process of getting everything installed to run the USB loader. I'm using a 32gb sdhc card and when I go to rip games to it I get a message that there is not enough space to do so. Any help would be great.

EDIT: For some reason it seems that I can only select the 2.0 gb card in the drive on the front of the system. How do I get it to use the SD card plugged in the back?

How are you plugging an SD card into the back of the Wii? The Wii can not use the drivers necessary to utilise USB card readers, so if you are attempting that, then that's your problem. Use the SDHC card in the front slot instead if it is your only storage medium.

Ok, thank you. I must have missed that during the process. I'll try it out.

EDIT: That was all I had to do. I need another 32gb card now. Ran out of space!

So the Homebrew Channel updated to 1.1.0 and now there's nothing on the screen. It's like there is nothing on the SD card but I haven't changed anything at all. I did have Gecko and the shop updater there and nothing now.

Formatted my card, copied everything back on it and nothing :/

Can someone help me soft mod my Wii? I tried following the directions in this thread:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=435094

The install seems to get stuck. Here's my post from the other thread -

I decided to try and soft mod my Wii since it's no longer reading discs in an attempt to load games from a HDD and also use Dolphin. I'm using the Indiana Jones game and ran into a problem once the homebrew started to load. Below is what the screen says and the instructions from the OP:

Cleaning up environment... Eventhook release failed with code 0
OK.
SD card detected
Opening boot.elf:
boot.elf not found (-1)
USBGecko not found
No code found to load, hanging.

Quote:
Guide, using Indiana Jones:
- Delete any Indiana Jones save games you have on your SD card or Wii.
- Plug your SD card into your computer.
- Download this: http://static.hackmii.com/indiana-pwns.zip
- Unzip the zip, drag the private folder onto your SD card.
- Download this: http://bootmii.org/download/
- Unzip the zip, drag boot.elf to your SD card. Do not put it inside any folder. Just drag the boot.elf file and have it on your SD card.
- Plug your SD card into your Wii.
- Boot Wii
- Wii Options > Data Management > Save Data > Wii
- SD Card > Indiana Pwns US Save > Copy to Wii's memory.
- Boot Lego Indiana Jones
- Load the save game.
- You will be in the college. Walk to the Art Room (through the courtyard). Inside the art room, approach the left character standing on a podium.
- When it zooms in on the character, choose the "Switch to" option.
- Lego Indiana Jones will now launch the Homebrew Channel installer.
- Wait while the installer runs tests.
- Press 1 when you are told to press 1 to continue.
- Your Wii will reboot, and you will see a "Homebrew Channel"
- Continue to Guide Part 2 below.
I ran into the error right after the bolded part. Can someone help me troubleshoot what's wrong?

Edit -
After searching the web, I found a common problem with the Indiana Pwns hack is that people are using the wrong type of SD card. Make sure that it's not SDHC and that it's 2GB or less.

My problem however was that there was no boot.elf file in the Indiana Pwns zip. I copied it from the hackmii folder and pasted it in the main menu of the SD card. Now I have the homebrew channel.

Here's a link to a video that helped:

Xenoblade NTSC is 6.3 GB. The format of the drive doesn't matter.

Thanks because that's what I may do If my wii can either read the game or not*.. So an 8 GB usb drive is good enough.

*Even though after a few resets of the wii I can play the game. So I believe it's not the disc.

Yeah, the HBC can't see your SD card for some reason. If it's a MiniSD or microSD in a caddy, ensure the caddy is fully closed (I had a problem once where the PC provided more pressure on the card than the Wii and only the PC got good contacts with the card until I fixed the caddy).

Also ensure your apps directory is named in lower case (although I haven't heard of this problem before, perhaps it's something new).

A couple of simple questions so I can go to be with a clear mind, please #10862

Ok, homebrew GET! on UK PAL Wii :D.

I have:
  • installed BootMii
  • backed up my NAND
  • installed the Homebrew Channel
  • installed IOS236
  • installed d2x
  • installed Configurable USB Loader

and am now mostly through ripping a dozen or so games to my external hard drive.

However, this is a new [to me] pre-owned Wii and I haven't played any games on it from disc. So there are no save files on the SD card.

Thus can I just load the games from the hard drive and play them from there or do I need a save file created by loading the game from the disc on the SD card first?

If the latter, will I run the risk of any update on any discs borking all my hard work this evening?

Most of my other questions I believe I can resolve by myself but I would like this one answered if possible so I can sleep soundly tonight :).

No updates should bother you seeing as you used the newest version of the GAF tutorial. Running the games from the drive is exactly the same as running them from the disc, so you're good there too and won't need to play from the disc first. You can even get them to log to the Wii Message Board properly by using the option listed on the configurable options page.

I bought Punch-Out! way back on release day and had completed the game. I backed up the save file to two of my SD Cards just to have peace of mind. I then deleted the save game file from the Wii itself.

Fast forward to yesterday, and I was trying to copy back the file to the Wii when I get the following error message:

"File may not have been copied."

I tried to move the file over, and I got:

"File may not have been moved."

I then tried other save files and found that the same error occurred with Flingsmash and Metroid: Other M.

Has anyone ever experienced this before?

How do you mean?

If you mean literally what you have posted then go on the Wii Shop and in the Channels you will have the option to update the Shop Channel if you haven't got the latest one.

The Wii system update is in the settings. Have a look in there.

However, if you are asking how you can update these without it borking your Wii Homebrew then use the GAF tutorial:

Dunno, but if you Wii is homebrewed then download the Save Manager app from the Hombrew Browser (or get it from wiibrew.org and install it yourself) and that'll restore your saves. It helped me when I had a similar problem with Twlight Princess.

Thanks for responding. I have Homebrew and USBLoader installed (along with a back up of the NAND flash IIRC?) and the patch that loads the bug that's needed. I might try it all over again, but I'm not sure if things are working correctly or not.

My current problem is that I have nothing loaded on the USB drive. Will the program still launch (it seems it tries to) if there's nothing on the drive? I guess the next step would be to get a program for putting my games on the HDD itself. I also heard there is a program to let you play DVDs as well. Right now my Wii won't read dual layer DVDs so I'm hoping a good lens cleaning will do the trick and I don't have the official Wii one since they're out of stock. I'd be greatful for any help I can get.

There are several homebrew video players capable of playing DVDs (WiiMC and MPlayer CE are the best imo). But honestly, if you are already having issues with the lens I wouldn't use the drive for playing DVDs as doing that is wearing it down a lot faster than most games.

The best method to get your games onto the drive is to just rip the using Cfg itself. There's instructions on the USB Loader page that tell you how to do that. It won't fix your dual layer issue, but I make it a policy not to tout nor explain the other methods as you have to support the actions of software pirates in order to utilise them.

Thanks. The lens cleaner I have can't be read in the Wii. I need a DVD program to do it. The sole purpose I have for the program is to clean the lense so I can back my dual layered games up.

Yes; I just spent the last couple of days using Configurable USB Loader [as recommended in the GAF guide] to rip my Wii game collection to a hard drive.

http://gwht.wikidot.com/usb-loader

Frankly, I found that the easiest part by far of the whole homebrew process.

Yeah, very friendly. Put in a disc, hit a button, confirm that you want to rip, and it will do so. When done it will ask if it should download the cover images for use in the menu. Done.

Indeed :) very user friendly.

I really appreciated the design of this program and those who made it when doing over 40 discs. Sometimes techy types frustrate me because they design something that is easy to use for them and other techy types but which is clumsy and unfriendly to non techy types, like me. Not on this occasion though! Thank you techy types! :D

It's perfectly possible. Just perform the update like the previous poster suggested, or update the Wii and the shop channel normally. There are no issues with updating the Wii via the Internet at the current time.

Yes, either place will do, but it is easier to do within config.txt.

A Bootmii backup will take up 512MB. You should be fine, though. I fit everything into about 700MB, and my install is well-used.

I have usb loader on my computer and so I add:
#ntfs_write = 1
#fat_split_size = 0
Somewhere in here?
(file: Cfg_USB_Loader_70\inSDRoot\usb-loader)
Quote:
# USBLoader config
# lines starting with # are comments
# see README-CFG.txt for help on options

# theme
theme = Glass
ETC.....

Haven't really seen much discussion here about resumption of development and the update notes cut off before they fully reveal their secrets.
I'm guessing those are the mods WiiPower made of Cfg to support Dios Mios Lite. Everyone on the Cfg dev team has either disappeared or is too busy to work on it. Perhaps they'll get integrated into an official version again sometime...

Sorry to ask such an elementary question but I am sleep deprived so hopefully you will indulge me :)

A new kitten decided to move in yesterday a year to the month after our first kitten decided to move in. So we've been managing them to see if they will get on or not :/. So not much sleep and even more hard of thinking today than normal!

He is a cutie though! :)

Oh well, now you know so all is well! :)

i has a question:

What's the wisest course of action for discussing matters of emulation using Wii Homebrew on GAF please?

I don't want to break any rules, get myself banned or upset anyone :/.
Just update the Wii as you normally would. If your homebrew is up to date (meaning you've updated everything within the last year or so) then the official update won't do anything to your homebrew installation.

As for emulation, discussion of the emulators seems to be OK, but don't discuss how to get the games.

Turn on the Vid Patch option for the game. Also ensure the language setting is set to Japanese. There is a font that is only used by Japanese games and you need to turn on one of those patches to have them display correctly.

The hash symbol is for comments, so you'd put those lines in after deleting the hash symbols in the front. Or you can use the Configurator app which comes with the Cfg download to load the current file, change those options, then save the new version in the correct format.

Used the config app. Selected ntfs_write = 1, fat_split_size = 0. Saved it as config.txt (All options). So my new confix.txt below is correct?
and now I just save over the config.txt in (Cfg_USB_Loader_70\inSDRoot\usb-loader)?

Quote:
theme = Glass
device = usb
gui = start
gui_transition = fade
gui_style = flow
gui_rows = 2
ntfs_write = 1
fat_split_size = 0
background = bg.png
background_gui = bg_gui.png
covers = 1
preview_coords = 42,52,160,120
colors = bright
console_color = 0,0
color_header = 0
color_footer = 0
ETC....

While I'm in the config app. Should I do the meta.XML steps?
----
I see d2x cIOS Installer v3.1.zip on the download list. So should I use that or 2.2? I already have 2.2 on the computer.

The Cfg is correctly defined, yeah. No need to add those options to meta.xml too. Yes, the 3.1 version of d2x shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you sir! :) Have I told you that I love you today? Purely platonic you understand

I only homebrewed the Wii a few days ago so I will do an official update shortly. Thanks :).

Thank you also for clarification of the emulation issue. I did look in the FAQ but I had a stonking headache from trying to keep peace between two little pussycats so I am grateful for your clarification :).

New question if you wouldn't mind.

I was looking at the 'FTPii is a homebrew FTP server for the Nintendo Wii' page in our lovely guide, here:

http://gwht.wikidot.com/ftpii

and would really like to do this.

However, I believe my steam driven XP pc does not have a wireless network card. I have a wireless router but the pc is connected via an ethernet cable.

I have no experience of FTP at all so would this make this impossible for me to do unless I fitted a wireless network card?

Or would it be able to function via the wireless router?

If the latter, then from browsing the appropriate page in the guide I am sure that I would be able to follow that and accomplish it.

Sorry to ask such elementary questions but I am really not very techy, despite what all my friends and family seem to think!

I popped into my friendly neighbourhood pc geek emporium on the way into town today and they confirmed that I do not need a wireless network card as FTP will use the wireless router.

Hurrar! Time for food and then I shall tackle it!

So All I need to do now is add "<arguments><arg>ios=248</arg></arguments>" in the USB loader meta.xml? (WHich is in: Cfg_USB_Loader_70\inSDRoot\apps\USBLoader)
--
Just got my flash drive and the file system is FAT32.
So I can skip the NTFS steps of the USB loader and just do the meta.xml steps above?

----
Installing HBC, installed bootmii to boot2, backing up bootmii
---

I get Device not responding with USB loader

Gonna retry and make sure I'm doing the steps

Tried again and got:
"ERROR! (ret = -1)

---

Double checked and I did follow so....
Giving up... gonna uninstall everything

useing bootmii recovery and uninstalling bootmii and HBC

It was worth a try... may try again one day

FTPii GET! but I can't get it working :/ #10898

FTPii & FireFTP and configured as per instructed but I get error message "Unable to make a connection. Please try again."

However there is one part of the instructions that is confusing me:

Code:
Windows Client (no installation necessary)

    Open "My Computer"
    Type ftp://<IPADDRESS>/sd where <IPADDRESS> is the one displayed on your TV by FTPii.
    You can now copy, move, and delete files using the standard Windows interface.
        Note: to edit files, you will need to copy them to a local folder (e.g., the desktop), edit them and then copy them back.
Where am I supposed to be typing? In the 'Address' field of the 'My Computer' window?

Is this what is borking my attempts?

Halp please! :)

There are actually several things you can do to try to attempt to avoid that error. Firstly, ensure the drive is plugged into the correct port. Secondly, try turning the drive on just before you start USB Loader. Thirdly, try turning the drive off and then back on again (or unplugging it from the USB and plugging back in) during Cfg's countdown. Fourthly, try reformatting the drive to NTFS and see if it can be detected then. If any of those work, there may be other ways to get it to recognise the drive.

I may do that another day. I don't feel like trying again.
