EDIT: That was all I had to do. I need another 32gb card now. Ran out of space!

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

So the Homebrew Channel updated to 1.1.0 and now there's nothing on the screen. It's like there is nothing on the SD card but I haven't changed anything at all. I did have Gecko and the shop updater there and nothing now.
Formatted my card, copied everything back on it and nothing :/ |

Can someone help me soft mod my Wii? I tried following the directions in this thread:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=435094 The install seems to get stuck. Here's my post from the other thread - I decided to try and soft mod my Wii since it's no longer reading discs in an attempt to load games from a HDD and also use Dolphin. I'm using the Indiana Jones game and ran into a problem once the homebrew started to load. Below is what the screen says and the instructions from the OP: Cleaning up environment... Eventhook release failed with code 0 OK. SD card detected Opening boot.elf: boot.elf not found (-1) USBGecko not found No code found to load, hanging.
Quote:
Edit - After searching the web, I found a common problem with the Indiana Pwns hack is that people are using the wrong type of SD card. Make sure that it's not SDHC and that it's 2GB or less. My problem however was that there was no boot.elf file in the Indiana Pwns zip. I copied it from the hackmii folder and pasted it in the main menu of the SD card. Now I have the homebrew channel. Here's a link to a video that helped: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kztoR...yer_embedded#!

*Even though after a few resets of the wii I can play the game. So I believe it's not the disc.

Also ensure your apps directory is named in lower case (although I haven't heard of this problem before, perhaps it's something new). |

A couple of simple questions so I can go to be with a clear mind, please
#10862
Ok, homebrew GET! on UK PAL Wii :D.
I have:
and am now mostly through ripping a dozen or so games to my external hard drive. However, this is a new [to me] pre-owned Wii and I haven't played any games on it from disc. So there are no save files on the SD card. Thus can I just load the games from the hard drive and play them from there or do I need a save file created by loading the game from the disc on the SD card first? If the latter, will I run the risk of any update on any discs borking all my hard work this evening? Most of my other questions I believe I can resolve by myself but I would like this one answered if possible so I can sleep soundly tonight :). |

Yes, tweaking the playlog, as you say, is going to be the last thing I do before I retire for the night. Much appreciation to you and all your colleagues in the Wii Homebew community for making all this possible :). |

I bought Punch-Out! way back on release day and had completed the game. I backed up the save file to two of my SD Cards just to have peace of mind. I then deleted the save game file from the Wii itself.
Fast forward to yesterday, and I was trying to copy back the file to the Wii when I get the following error message: "File may not have been copied." I tried to move the file over, and I got: "File may not have been moved." I then tried other save files and found that the same error occurred with Flingsmash and Metroid: Other M. Has anyone ever experienced this before? |

How do you mean?
If you mean literally what you have posted then go on the Wii Shop and in the Channels you will have the option to update the Shop Channel if you haven't got the latest one. The Wii system update is in the settings. Have a look in there. However, if you are asking how you can update these without it borking your Wii Homebrew then use the GAF tutorial:

My current problem is that I have nothing loaded on the USB drive. Will the program still launch (it seems it tries to) if there's nothing on the drive? I guess the next step would be to get a program for putting my games on the HDD itself. I also heard there is a program to let you play DVDs as well. Right now my Wii won't read dual layer DVDs so I'm hoping a good lens cleaning will do the trick and I don't have the official Wii one since they're out of stock. I'd be greatful for any help I can get. |

http://gwht.wikidot.com/usb-loader Frankly, I found that the easiest part by far of the whole homebrew process. It does specifically state this in the guide but perhaps you used an earlier version of the guide where it didn't? |

I'm using the guide to install a forwarder for Conf. USB Loader but the third link i.e. the IOS58 Installer is borked :/.
I really appreciated the design of this program and those who made it when doing over 40 discs. Sometimes techy types frustrate me because they design something that is easy to use for them and other techy types but which is clumsy and unfriendly to non techy types, like me. Not on this occasion though! Thank you techy types! :D

So is it not possible to use the Wii Shop Channel if you have HBC? Cause I can't.
Regardless, bad UX in the app itself. |

How do I do this? Does backing-up bootmii do this?
--- So if my 8 GB flash drive it in NTFS I have to need to add ntfs_write = 1, fat_split_size = 0, to config.txt or meta.xml(does it matter where I enter it?). And I can still play Xenoblade on the wii? Also for d2x, How will I do "Slot 248 - Base 56 & Slot 247 - Base 57"? I Have a flash drive arriving Wednesday and I just want to get my ducks in a row.

What is the best way for me to do this without borking my homebrew sir?
Sorry to ask such an elementary question but I am sleep deprived so hopefully you will indulge me :) A new kitten decided to move in yesterday a year to the month after our first kitten decided to move in. So we've been managing them to see if they will get on or not :/. So not much sleep and even more hard of thinking today than normal! He is a cutie though! :)
i has a question: What's the wisest course of action for discussing matters of emulation using Wii Homebrew on GAF please? I don't want to break any rules, get myself banned or upset anyone :/. |

Got a little problem. I have a Japanese copy of Fzero GX and when I play it on my modded Wii it runs fine, but all of the 2D elements in the game are invisible (title graphic, menus, HUD, etc). I used startpatch to kill all region protection on the GC mode too, but I wonder if it's a BIOS thing. Any ideas?

I have usb loader on my computer and so I add:
#ntfs_write = 1 #fat_split_size = 0 Somewhere in here? (file: Cfg_USB_Loader_70\inSDRoot\usb-loader)

As for emulation, discussion of the emulators seems to be OK, but don't discuss how to get the games.
The hash symbol is for comments, so you'd put those lines in after deleting the hash symbols in the front. Or you can use the Configurator app which comes with the Cfg download to load the current file, change those options, then save the new version in the correct format. |

Used the config app. Selected ntfs_write = 1, fat_split_size = 0. Saved it as config.txt (All options). So my new confix.txt below is correct?
and now I just save over the config.txt in (Cfg_USB_Loader_70\inSDRoot\usb-loader)?

While I'm in the config app. Should I do the meta.XML steps? ---- I see d2x cIOS Installer v3.1.zip on the download list. So should I use that or 2.2? I already have 2.2 on the computer.

I only homebrewed the Wii a few days ago so I will do an official update shortly. Thanks :). Thank you also for clarification of the emulation issue. I did look in the FAQ but I had a stonking headache from trying to keep peace between two little pussycats so I am grateful for your clarification :). I was looking at the 'FTPii is a homebrew FTP server for the Nintendo Wii' page in our lovely guide, here: http://gwht.wikidot.com/ftpii and would really like to do this. However, I believe my steam driven XP pc does not have a wireless network card. I have a wireless router but the pc is connected via an ethernet cable. I have no experience of FTP at all so would this make this impossible for me to do unless I fitted a wireless network card? Or would it be able to function via the wireless router? If the latter, then from browsing the appropriate page in the guide I am sure that I would be able to follow that and accomplish it. Sorry to ask such elementary questions but I am really not very techy, despite what all my friends and family seem to think! I popped into my friendly neighbourhood pc geek emporium on the way into town today and they confirmed that I do not need a wireless network card as FTP will use the wireless router. Hurrar! Time for food and then I shall tackle it!

^Hardware I can understand... Software I can not
-- Just got my flash drive and the file system is FAT32. So I can skip the NTFS steps of the USB loader and just do the meta.xml steps above? ---- Installing HBC, installed bootmii to boot2, backing up bootmii --- I get Device not responding with USB loader Gonna retry and make sure I'm doing the steps Tried again and got: "ERROR! (ret = -1) --- Double checked and I did follow so.... Giving up... gonna uninstall everything useing bootmii recovery and uninstalling bootmii and HBC It was worth a try... may try again one day

FTPii GET! but I can't get it working :/
#10898
FTPii & FireFTP and configured as per instructed but I get error message "Unable to make a connection. Please try again."
However there is one part of the instructions that is confusing me: Code:
Windows Client (no installation necessary)
Open "My Computer"
Type ftp://<IPADDRESS>/sd where <IPADDRESS> is the one displayed on your TV by FTPii.
You can now copy, move, and delete files using the standard Windows interface.
Note: to edit files, you will need to copy them to a local folder (e.g., the desktop), edit them and then copy them back.
Is this what is borking my attempts? Halp please! :) |
