There's a new post on PlayStation.Blog announcing that they will soon be offering "hundreds of full-length Hollywood movies and thousands of television shows" that you can watch in Home with your friends.
If I recall correctly, this was something that was discussed quite some time back, but the idea seemed to fade from the limelight as time passed (most of us probably assumed it would never actually happen). It will be interesting to see how well this works, if there's a good selection of movies, and if there are any strange technical issues or restrictions. |

Wow, US Home is officially dead.
(and EU too, not like that was ever good). JP is the only real reputable Home now. They completely removed Central Plaza, the Mall and some other key memorable spaces in return for cramped, soulless "hub" space that obviously caters to the direction US Home was heading in for awhile...catering to children/young teens spending money like crazy on digital items. All of it is slapped in your face in an already cramped space. JP Home still has soul and is pumping out very detailed and interesting spaces. Check out the two Granzella spaces (the ancient Japan town and tropical island one). The main Square is still the same for a reason, it's architectural digital masterpiece. That place is PS Home to me. And the JP Mall? Retains how it looked originally with the original iconic Mall theme. Moving on...I had hundreds of JP/US Home photos since the photo feature game out, but lost them all in July due to a HDD crash. Are there any fan sites with pictures of all the old spaces (JP Spelunker winter, JP Square Christmas 2009, US Central Square 2010 Christmas, etc)? |

^I dunno, but man I just remembered how much fun I had in Home. It was four fucking years ago I think, maybe more? The closed private beta. I remember meeting Phil Harrison INSIDE home once with a group of home-friends. We knew it was him (his PSN ID had a SPACE in it) and he chatted how we liked it etc. Some great times, hilarious stuff too. I think I was actually regular friends with Gregg or someone from IGN's beyond podcast, he had a ridiculous looking avatar, but at the time I was only like 15 or 16 and didn't know who he was. I remember this video I had released leaking Home (tour basically of the features, more than 100k views from veoh alone) since it was still closed beta, and it circulated everywhere but was taken down almost everywhere as well. However, I got this email from Veoh a while ago about my account, and I was like 'I have an account there?' and lowandbehold all that leaked Home stuff from the first beta is there. It's come a long way, but I don't care what anyone says, those who were with me in the original tight closed beta know how awesome and fun those times were, just chatting and exploring and discovering. Anyway, just though I would add some input.
I realize now I violated the terms and shit by leaking that way back, but I was a fucking kid. |

Bah...let me know if they play well. The only game I liked in PS Home is Scribble Shooter (or was it called something else ?)
All the 3D ones sucked. EDIT: Oh yes, I liked Salt Shooter too, even though it's a 3D vehicle shooting game. But the 3D human character games were bad. |

Last night, I accidentally clicked on the Home app for the first time in a few months. I've actually enjoyed many hours of Home, before. There was an update, so I said "What the hell..." and proceeded to see what was new. It looks like there's been quite a lot of changes, and new content to check out, one of them being the casino that I don't remember seeing before. So, I decided to "briefly" check out some of the new stuff. I was quickly reminded what I grew tired of, before. THE LOADING! *sigh* If it wasn't for the frequent loading inhibiting my desire to freely roam about its vast world of content, I would have spent far more time in Home than I already have. If the horrible loading times have turned off someone like me, who genuinely wants to enjoy the content in Home, the number of potential casual gamers that it's turned off must be staggering.

How do you still operate under this massive misconception? Seriously, GAF =/= Home user base. Maybe log in and see for yourself, lots of people use it, just not lots of people that align with your tastes.

I was being sardonic. Why hasn't any of the trophy stuff happened that they talked about? And why hasn't there been more of an effort to integrate Home into other aspects of the PlayStation ecosystem if it's that profitable? I'd still like to use the service if the core experience wasn't so completely terrible.
edit: Yes we do, in my opinion. |

Also, all of the above didn't happen because it simply wasn't important to what Home was becoming, as was evident through the closed beta process. It is profitable, and the people that use it enjoy it a lot. I don't really see what else they need to do besides focus on THAT user base that is funneling money to them for virtual goods. Clearly you aren't the consumer they should chase, since you can't even bring yourself to believe people enjoy using it and that it is a profitable endeavor for Sony. |

It's populated with people who spend way too much money on things they absolutely don't need. The user base tends to migrate to the newer areas, and older areas eventually become desolate waste lands (depending on the game, of course). Area's with games tend to remain populated for longer periods of time.

for those who use Home, how often do you find yourselves there, what do you do while in it and what are some of your favorite things/places in it? i just downloaded it to see what it was like and i am fairly lost about the whole thing and why people use it, what they get out of it, etc. i'd love to hear from the bigger segment of users here. |

The biggest thing they can change though is play local files instead of streaming if available. For example, I downloaded to E3 presentation, so it should play it off the hard drive instead of streaming it. |

Home Tycoon looks great.
I was in the beta for the shooter game coming out. It wasn't too bad. Never anyone online to try a multiplayer game though. The new jungle/ruins RPG thing is horrid. It just doesn't flow, and is pretty confusing. Still rocking my closed beta summer 08 shirt. I don't get on much, and neither do very many of my friends. Most of us just play games all the time. The ones on Home rarely play regular games, at least from what I see on my list and random viewing of folks trophy lists there. |

Yeah i've found that too. Still, if they enjoy games on Home fair play to them. I went on last weekend for the first time in a month or two (Home kept throwing up errors, but it seems to finally be sorted) and was impressed by how many people were around still.

There's still a ton of folks, but I don't think it's going to be how it used to be. I miss the days when I'd stay up til 6am for Home maintenance to end so I could do the next day's Xi mission, or hanging out in a place and accidentally happening upon a group of people you already knew. Now it's all segmented and I feel so much more disconnected to it. Especially after they added that horrible new central plaza.

It does look interesting. Their games run very well compared to the actual spaces.
He was there almost non stop during E3, just wandering around. At one point he got people to put on their Sly heads so there were about 30 Sly people running around the E3 space in a big circle. |

Wow that just sounds scary. Now that you mention it, i think i did walk into him when i was checking out the E3 space. One was freaky enough, let alone 30 of them. |

Sorry to bump this thread, but I've been trying to download Home for awhile now. It's been about a year or so since I last played (maybe even as far back as 2010). It keeps stopping on the "Message of the Day" page with two figures standing around the box. Lights keep flashing like mad, but nothing happens.
Should I just delete the install and start from fresh or wait it out? |
