I have very fond memories of this game. When I was a little kid, I didn't know what games were good or bad, I mostly just saw cover art and assumed based on that. When I saw the cover art for this game, I got so excited. Everything about it seemed fun and exciting. The whole game had to be a pure adventure based on that cover.
I begged and begged my parents to get it for me. I'll always remember it was a few weeks before christmas and my parents took me to a mall in Edmonton. I asked them to get me a copy from some game store in that mall, so my mom told me she would. I had to wait outside for some reason, but I didn't question it. Then my mom came out and said they were all sold out. I was heartbroken. A couple weeks later it magically showed up under the christmas tree. I spent literally days playing it, always crawling a bit further through it. I was just having a blast, even when I was losing and dying. Easily one of the best games I've ever played. |

Was actually debating on making a thread about this, Blaster Master, or the Japanese Back to the future game, but i doubt many here have played that. |

Fantastic game. I'm pretty sure I beat it as a kid without Game Genie.
I should try again |

Me and my brother then understand why it was so fucking difficult to hit the bosses jumping and swinging the scepter. Awesome game, still remember many of the musics and levels. Always hated Topsy-Turvy, I don't remember for what reason... I think it's time to look in my attic for my NES and try beating it again... |

I could swear it came out before the animated movie, or at the very least they came out relatively close together because I distinctly remember seeing a commercial for the movie and thinking it was based on the game.
Awesome game, but tough as nails. I beat it legitimately, but what a fight that was. It's nuts that you're nigh defenseless as Nemo until the LAST LEVEL at which point you get a very awkward attack that really is only practical against the last boss. Yeah, there was candy, but it would only stun enemies for the briefest of moments and they were almost all too large to jump over, so it didn't do much good. Lots of variety though, I loved that game as a kid. |

You're mostly right. The NES game was released in late 1990, a year after the Japanese release of the film, but the film wasn't properly released in the US until August 1992.

I was ready for my nostalgia to bite me in the ass when I started this up about an hour ago, but it has not. The game is still wonderful, it's a shame I doubt that the movie will see a Blu-Ray release, let alone any kind of HD remake. Truth be told though, with what i've seen of many of the remakes like Double Dragon coming, Turtles in time, etc I just rather not get it. The only way I could see it being worthwhile is if they only upgraded the visuals, but thats never all they do.

That said, I think this one is best left as is, perhaps re-released on digital services if Capcom could reacquire the license. |

My middle brother and I played the hell out of this game. endless devastation upon reaching that door at the end of the level and realizing you didn't get one of the keys :(
We beat it a couple of times though. Train level was the worst but those stupid pollen spore dandelion whatever they are things that float down after you are one of the most annoying enemies in video game history. |
