If they're going to stick with the same dualshock design, then they should contract the design out to logitech and have them do it.
![]() That's a pc controller only, but it feels much better in the hand, and its triggers resemble a 360 style trigger, not the mushy crap the DS3 has. |

I've personally found the best way to play WipEout is to map airbrakes to L2+R2, pickups to L1+R1 (or vice versa), and thrust to X, that way you can access them all simultaneously. That being said, when all shoulder buttons aren't needed, outside firefight for example, I only hold the index fingers on them. Applies to 3rd person games as well.

Hmm, my hands are about 9" from base of palm to top of middle finger, not exactly small, and the controller is perfect. That's not to say it (the controller) can't be improved by increasing the size a bit, but I do wish for concave trigger buttons, or a slight lowering and recessing.

I know they do, but not at all times, and with a full grip while using both sticks. It's not a good way to hold the controller in general.

The way I hold the ds3 is: index finger on shoulder button, thumb on analog stick, and ring finger+pinky curled around the handle. Both hands exactly the same on each side. Way more comfortable than 360.
I tried "gripping" it just to see what it felt like, and it was awful. Thumbs could barely reach the sticks. I really can't figure out why people hold it like that. And continue doing so no matter how much their hands cramp. |

Look at the shape of the buttons. Holding them down or tons of repeated presses quickly causes them to dig into your fingers. This doesn't happen on other controllers because the buttons are flat. It's a terrible idea and I still don't know what they were thinking.

If you are either gripping or holding your controller, you can not be playing correctly. There should be no pressure applied whatsoever if you are simply letting the controller sit in your hands. Also, you should never rest your thumb actually on top of the analogues and having to set them below is just as wild. The thumb naturally sits on the controller right on top of the select button making it completely useful in controlling the stick from the top left corner.
Damn, is this bad positioning how you guys keep breaking either yourselves or the controllers? Also, fucking lol at playing shooters with a mouse. I've always found that to be completely boring. Do you get excited when you click on links as your browsing the web? I get about the same feeling from getting a headshot with a mouse as I do on clicking a link. |

I play FPS games with a Guitar Hero controller so it feels like I'm shredding riffs instead of the other team.

I bet it's also as fun to browse the web with the Dual Shock 3.

Sega had it right with the Genesis. They made the average controller for regular adults then sold a smaller controller for children with smaller hands.

As soon as you joined, we knew where this was heading. :P
Seriously though, I don't get where the idea of shooting with a mouse = true skill came from outside of the first competitive shooters appearing using the kb/m control scheme seeing as how they were on computers. I truly do think it is boring to shoot with a mouse. Point, click, dead, immediately. |

I don't know, I don't really view being able to see as much of a skill. Of course, when there are people who can't hold a controller properly... let's just say maybe I'm being a little too lenient. Heh.
At the end of the day, there is zero joy in shooting with a mouse for me, but it can be useful for other genres.

If you want some kind of point/shoot type of satisfaction I hope you enjoy the wiimote or at least Move for FPSs then. Dual analogue aiming is fundamentally inferior. You are specifying a direction of motion to aim, instead of a position. |

+111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 As popular as fighting games are, they are NOT the most popular home video game genre. Shooters are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more popular and I absolutely hate using the DS3 for shooters. The only reason I use it now is because 3rd party controllers ALL have some type of deadzone. |

Yeah, I understand the controller is probably too small for the average North American hand, but I really like the quality feel of the buttons (omitting the triggers). The 360 face buttons feel like garbage to me and overall it doesn't feel like as quality a product.

Not crazy, just possessing a really weird set of priorities. Do you think, for example, that wars should still be fought with spears and arrows because guns are too easy?

I thought you were talking about the Dpad, which I agree with. What's cheap feeling about the 360 controller face buttons compared to the DS3? If you mean "flat" when you say quality...ok.

Having tried a boomerang knock-off I can vouch for how comfortable they are so I'm really hoping Sony finally give them a go. Ultimately though I just want a great controller, the actual approach they take to get there isn't as important as the quality of the final product. It needs to be comfortable, solidly built, have very accurate sticks with the right amount of resistance, good quality d-pad and buttons, and triggers that are actually useful as triggers. I've loved the Dual Shock controllers but they could definitely still be improved, especially on the comfort, sticks, and triggers front. |

And the opposite is true for me. In fact the most vocal (and shortest) of the people I know is about 5'6 and he prefers the 360 controller, mainly because I think he just has envy. :)

This is how you hold a ps3 controller.
![]() With the index fingers on the shoulder buttons, and the other 4 fingers underneath supporting the weight. There should be no pressure on the palms, the controller simply floats between your hands, with the weight supported by your 6 fingers underneath. You do not grip it as you would with a 360 controller, you do not wrap your fingers around the handles, it shouldn't matter if you have the worlds largest hands because only the tips of your fingers would need to touch the controller, your palms can be as far or near as needed to be comfortable. |

I love the dualshock and hope they refine it, my only issue with the DS3 are the L2 and R2 and that's mainly down to it fast forwarding when I put it down, I don't play shooters much and they use R1 now so that's no problem.
I'm glad someone else said the 360 buttons are painful cause I agree, they're like walking barefoot on pebbles but with your thumb :/ Stick with the DS stick placement, I hate the way my left thumb is straight when using the 360, I lack precision in using the left stick because of it. Sucks for racing games |
