Sorry to take this thread OT but just been playing this for an hour.
For $2.99 it is a very good purchase. The characters are there (unlocking required) and the controls work fine. You have a punch and kick button, combined with a special and 'assist' buttons which have four areas around the outside. So you can either tap the button, or 'slide' in one of the directions to get a different attack. This lets you do your specials, assists or snap-backs etc without a problem. The compromise is it feels a little slower in pace, which makes sense given the platform. More along the lines of SF4 speed than crazy marvel. Some people might be put off by this, but if you can get past the fact it isn't a 1:1 port, but something different, it is very fun to play and great value. The only thing obscured by the touch screen is the meter bars, which could have been up the top (and maybe there is an option...) Other than that, go grab it if you want a fun diversion. |

On topic: tried a round of MvC2, controls were so nerfed I wasn't able to fire off a single super (got a snapback randomly though) and the round against the first AI opponent ended by time over. Will probably only launch to torture people with the character select music. |

Watching the video, you can definitely see the slowdown, even the announcer is slurred because of the slowdown. This is something that can be addressed with a future update though right?
It still looks playable though, so for $2.99 I'm tempted to pick it up and hope it gets patched. |

I'd say that the hope is that if people stop buying crappy controlling, weakly ported, cash grabs then there will actually be room / incentive in the iOS market for some company / indie developer to actually figure out how to make a fighting work really well on iOS and release that. Might just be the cynic in me though.

Just reporting what I see. Plays like shit on my ipod. Will try later on my ipad2. Not expecting much. I buy them for the novelty.

Gotta admit, I'm not liking it too much so far. Went into practice, then a couple rounds of arcade mode when I got it last night, and it's hard as hell to control, for me at least. I'll have to get used to it or something. It does feel noticeably slower than the original and XBLA/PSN releases, but that doesn't really bother me. What does bother me is the placement of the "buttons". Feels like they aren't big enough?.. Or something.
But yeah, like I said.. Hopefully I can get used to it so I can at least enjoy myself, haha. I was playing on my iPad 2 btw. |

Which blows my mind why the game runs as poorly as it does. I mean, it's worth 3 bucks as a novelty but it's not playable to me. We're talking 5-10 fps per second.

Seconded.
On the new iPad, the roughness of the sprites are even more evident, and there's some weird filtering with the logo that I don't even comprehend. The game starts off with everything unlocked, so you'll have to spend time unlocking everyone a la the Dreamcast version. I've played a round or two and the simple controls (four button scheme) didn't sit well with me, so I chose the more advanced controls (six button scheme). For the most part, my combos came out well but like what many have said, it's really slow. It's definitely not 60fps. |

Unless of course you are Drinky Crow who evolved in such a way that he merged with the forum code and he can come in and out as he pleases and banning means nothing for him, he IS the forum code.
Oh and this game runs like ass on my ipod touch 4g, I really hope for an upcoming patch that would make this game playable, right now it's a slide show |

Keep in mind that the same GPU in the new iPad is used in the PS Vita (though Vita has more CPU cores) and runs Marvel vs Capcom 3 without any issues (a game far beyond the realm of Dreamcast). |

There's no denying fps is low and the game needs to be optimized. But that is something I believe can be fixed with an update. If you take a step back and consider you have a potentially faithful reproduction of *marvel vs capcom* on your phone, it's impressive. Let's hope this goes the Soul Calibur route and gets patched up proper in the future.
