I'm hoping all of them are early "summer" (May/June), rather than late summer (Jul/Aug).

Wait, what, did Deep Black just have a cutscene that promotes intelligent design? There was a short conversation where the main character calls god "the ultimate expert [on designing things]."

Yes, and we did already post impressions. I've almost beaten it and it doesn't get any better; in fact, it gets worse with every new thing they introduce. This is the kind of game that shouldn't exist, designed and created by people who have no business making games. They just don't get it. None of it is fun.

I don't see that as a problem. The game is a work of fiction, no? Drawing inspiration from a certain source shouldn't be frowned upon, imo.

Tempting, is it any good? I found DR2 to be slightly disappointing, but I did enjoy the standalone episodes very much.

is Splosion Man in the vein of Super Meat Boy/N+ type of platforming?

Not really, no. Both because of the physics (your character is not really as agile as the characters in SMB/N+) and because of the game design (while there are die-and-die-again segments, they're fairly rare, and in most cases you can flub a jump without dying).

Splosion Man's co-op has some of the best and most difficult platforming in a video game. But the SP is more forgiving.

It's way more forgiving than those, it's more a regular platformer than a smash your controller against the wall platformer.

Gamespot is giving out codes for the Hybrid beta. I'm very skeptical about the game, so this'll be fun. (US only?)

As best I could tell from Bloodforge's 90 second demo, at least.

I guess it could become an interesting and fun game after the trial, but the fact they decided to not let you play any further for free isn't encouraging.

The later levels in single player can be extremely unforgiving, and Ms. 'Splosion Man is even more difficult.

This might sound weird, but if he likes SMB and N+, the absolute best thing to get him on is probably Trials Evo. It's the best 2D platformer on the service

I wish Sega would say even a small something on Monster World Collection.

We're literally two weeks away from it having been announced an entire year ago (and we're a month past the extreme limit of the vague release window they gave back then).

The demo for Bloodforge has to be the worst I've ever downloaded I think. The actual gameplay part lasts about 2 minutes and gives you a taste of how to do light and heavy attacks and how to dodge and that's it.

Man... I'm not one to underestimate kids and I know how well they can learn, but Trials? It's so frustrating and difficult, the poor kid is going to cry the first time he finally gets over the Hard hump and loads up an Extreme level. Then he'll grow up to be emo and write shitty poetry. Why would you want to do that to the poor kid, toy?!

Well, that's easy enough to assume based on the 12/200 achievement listing. :)

Still, I've had a full year of pent up waiting for this, there are some pains that will linger on for some time after the eventual release.

He LOVES the demos of Trials HD and Trials Evo.

I just got him this:

Xbox Live Arcade Triple Pack: Limbo, Trials HD, Splosion Man

Only $13.

He's surprisingly good at these sorts of platformers. He doesn't seem to mind that they are considered really hard. (SMB, N+ Trials, etc.) he doesn't beat the crazy hard levels, but he'll get farther than you would think lol.

It has a few flaws that piss some people off (combat is not great, graphics are almost black & white, voice acting is weak) and some things that others love (great atmosphere, cool environments, pretty fun climbing bits). It's like the epitome of a 50-50 game; half good, half bad. If you can deal with the annoyances, you'll enjoy it.

Not at all. Sure, the second has more variety, but it lost its purity as well. Pasificism is the only great mode in the second one. The first is the better game in my opinion.

The second game basically includes the first game, and a ton of other modes on top! Okay, it's not exactly the same, but I think for someone new to the series there's literally no reason to pick up the first over the second.
