I cut my leg open on a bicycle chain (the part that looks like a saw and spins really fast).
It went to the bone and I had to get three layers of stitches. The anesthesia didn't do jack and they kept sticking those giant needles into the wound trying to get it to work. Thats not the most painful part though. The most painful part was 30 minutes after the stitches, and the anesthesia completely wore off. Then I could feel the pain. |

Son of a bitch. And there's no alleviating the symptoms for you, at least by strictly never touching certain trigger foods?

Worst I've felt was in August 2010 when I was ill. I felt nauseous, had stomach pains, uncontrollable shivering and a pounding head every waking moment. To make things worse I couldn't go to sleep because of the shivering, could only cry silently for hours and hours. Back then minutes felt like hours, I can only imagine now how long the hours I had to endure were.

Well it usually comes from bacteria on your food.
I got a sandwich from the vending machine at work (nothing about that sounds like a good idea does it?). I don't know if it had been in there two long or been contaminated at packaging but it tore me to shreds. At first I thought I had a stomach ache. Got home and figured I'd sleep it off. But it just kept getting worse and worse. So I rush out to the store to grab some Pepto, take a gulp, and immediately throw it up. And then I just couldn't stop throwing up. When my stomach was empty I started throwing up bile. I managed to get my phone and call my mother who rushes me to the hospital. They hook me up to IVs and hydrate me and put something in to sooth my stomach. After that it was a matter of riding it out, curled up around a bucket on a hospital bed. So the feelings is a stomach cramp ratched up to 11 with non-stop vomiting, even if you've run out of stuff to vomit. But yeah, when you work the night shift at a processing plant in Dog's Ass Nowhere, bring your own lunch from home. Edit: Also, this. |

I had a kidney stone, that was mostly bad for how long the pain lasted (weeks)
The calf cramps I used to get were a few points worse. Uncontrolled screaming bad. I think they were mostly caused by chronic dehydration. Hey, both things were caused by that. Now I drink tons of water and I'm much better. As far as other / complete suffering, I once had bad food poisoning. It was more than nausea, I really felt like I was going to die. Vomited about 20 times. Couldn't get out of bed. Shat self. Borderline labored breathing. Yay. |

If you think that's bad, try having to cover this up and keeping it a secret from everyone for your whole life, especially in middle/high school. |

i got a rare condition called Pseudotumor Cerebri from being forced on Lithium. I had to go to the hospital because i was like 60% blind and had to continually get spinal taps over and voer to clear the spinal fluid from my brain. i couldnt walk for another few weeks and the pain in my spine from all those taps back to back was so immense; even laying down it felt like my soul had been punctured

Each of the 8 times I broke my nose it was a dull pain. When I broke my orbit, I felt like I was on fire, but again it was a dull pain. Besides the usual pinch or prick from something I've never really felt true agonizing pain. Which is weird, because I've had so many injuries.
The most painful injury that I've had is when I shattered my nose. I saved a penalty kick, then stopped the rebound and got the follow through to my nose. I remember the immediate thought "I just broke my nose". Followed by looking down and seeing a river of mushy blood slowly oozing onto my face, into my goalkeeper gloves, and then onto the ground. |

Well, seems pretty likely I'm right here in this boat with you. At least I can take solace in the fact that I made it out of high school before this happened :/

I used to get terrible muscle spasms in my abs, I thought it was appendicitis or something, but the doctors never found anything. Would cause me to double over in pain for ~2 days, was seriously so painful
I also swallowed a pill wrong once (right before bed) and it got lodged in my esophagus right above my stomach. The iron (probably) from the pill burned the esophagus/stomach valve and caused EXTREME pain when eating anything, and caused chronic heartburn until it healed... took about a week and a half to heal completely - absolute worst pain I've ever had. |

I've got a couple...
1. Getting all 4 of wisdom teeth removed at the same time...in which all of them were buried in my gums and impacting my molars. So dentist had to cut, and remove them. Had a new affection for painkillers during this time. 2. Getting my appendix removed. Recovery sucked...Had trouble lying down, and had to sleep sitting on a chair for 3-5 days. 3. And yes I will go with IBS. Been having stomach problems for quite a while, got tested for Celiac disease, came out negative. So was diagnosed as IBS. Definitely has been a nuisance. Lots of times where no matter hard I would try, wouldn't get a bowel movement. Would feel bloated majority of the time and was just uncomfortable as hell. Have tried some natural remedies and it has seemed to help. But yeah still fucking annoying. |

Kidney stone by far. You picture a jagged crystal floating around in your kidney region and playing pong with everything in there. When it does finally get itself caught somewhere, well....people don't call it one of the most painful things you can experience for no reason. Women who've had a kid and a kidney stone even say the stone's worse.

A severe sunburn that produced the most intense "itchy" sensation I've ever felt in my life. The worst part about it was that scratching it only made it worse. It was so intense that it consumed every fiber of my being. There was nothing I could do to take my mind off of it, and after about 20 minutes, I started to panic because of how searingly painful and truly awful the sensation was.
I was alone in my apartment at the time, and it eventually got to the point where I began yelling loudly in pain and frustration. I dug through my medicine cabinet and found nothing that might relieve it, so I sprinted outside to my car, erratically drove a couple of miles to the nearest Walmart, sprinted to the allergy section, grabbed a bottle of Benadryl, and popped about 3-4 of them right there in the aisle. I was still beyond freaking out because of how horrible it felt, but I managed to make it to the self-checkout to pay for it, then drove home as quickly as possible before the medicine kicked in. Made it to my bed right as the drowsiness began, at which point I passed out for several hours, and when I woke up, the itch was completely gone. |

Pain due to appendicitis was a bitch. By far the worst fucking physical pain I've ever experienced. Lasted 3 days, in the beginning it was as if you were being stabbed from the inside of your stomach. Every slight movement by the intestines sent waves of sharp pain. Second day I was laying on bed moving around like a wounded animal - couldn't stay still for a second. Wasn't able to sleep at all due to the pain. Third day I couldn't walk. Recovery was and still is a bitch. This was about a month and a half ago.

I go to a homeopathic doctor to get some medicine for some kidney and stomach problems. To be honest I'm not exactly sure the name of the medicine he has been giving, but it seems to be working. Also I take something called Ispaghol. It's a natural mix which is meant to supply fiber to your diet. It's tasteless and you can mix it with any beverage (preferably water). I would say it's kind of like a powder. Of course all of this includes changing diet habits such as no junk food, and eating lots of fruits and vegetables. Also exercising has been a change I've brought into my routine. But the big thing for me was quitting smoking. Been a smoker for 3 years, recently stopped after finding out I have IBS. Not sure how all this helps, but just thought of giving you my side. Hope you figure it out what to do. IBS sucks :( |

Having a Hemorrhoid once was probably the worst pain I ever felt. Didn't help that I had to go to class and sit on those hard, uncomfortable chairs. Walking, sitting, laying down, pooping was all super difficult. Since then I've made sure to eat better and stop sitting on my ass so much.

Gallbladder attack a few weeks ago. A stone got lodged in one of my ducts, than went into my liver and I started turning yellow, srsly. It felt like I was having a heart attack that lasted 30ish hours, yes, 30!. It was second time I've had an attack that bad and about 3 or 4 minor ones. I had surgery just this past monday to get out any stones and took out the gallbladder. It's hard to imagine a pain so sever that it hurts to breathe and is paralyzing, man did that shit suck. glad i wont have to deal with it anymore, only cost me like 15 fucking grand :\

Think I broke my tailbone, I say think because I never got it checked, and it hurt for months. Couldn’t sit properly and when I did I needed a pillow to make it bearable. Sleeping wasn’t a problem. Pretty sure I either broke it or cracked it as it still hurts to this day when I get up from sitting after a while.
This past winter I had strep throat and didn’t realize it for a good two weeks. At first the pain was tolerable and I could deal with it, just thought it was a normal cold. I didn’t have a fever either, except for one night, and just shrugged it off. Eventually the pain got so bad I contemplated going to the E.R. but instead settled for drugging myself with tylenol and some left over pain-killers from eye surgery. Eventually went to my doctor and he gave me some antibiotics, by then the pain was back to a tolerable level so I wasn’t popping tylenol every 4 hours. I also get thrombosed hemorrhoids and had the first one removed without too much trouble. The second one was a bit more painful. I went to an actual specialist for the second one and he numbed the area around my ass where the hemorrhoid was. That was all fine and dandy, hell it was even cool when he cut it open. What wasn’t cool was when he reached his finger into the cut open hemorrhoid and proceeded to dig the blood clot out with his finger. Later went back when I had a third one and he finally told me that I didn’t really need to get them removed. They would eventually just absorb back into my ass and I’d maybe have some loose skin there. Wish someone would have told me sooner. |

Migraines. I had one that lasted a day (I think it might be have been a 24 hour bug rather than a typical migraine of mine.) Either way I wanted to blow my head off during it.
Other than migraines ovarian cysts. My current birth control keeps those at bay but I've been cramping again ugh. |

Dysentery. I puked and shit (often at the same time) so much that my entire body was in pain from so many violent body movements.
Cytoscopy. These fuckers put a camera the size of a pencil through my urethra into my bladder. Shit sucked. A herniated disk. That shit is fucking terrible. Legs going numb and shooting back pain. It almost brought me to tears many times. |

lol i've come across this thought many times. Been going to doctors for years and had many tests, nothing really has come up...so just thought ok i'll try this. Don't see myself taking it forever though. Never really was a fan of taking medicine in the first place unless it was something serious.

I also tore my ACL while performing martial arts just over a year ago. Had to get reconstruction surgery done at a hospital in South Korea where only 1 person spoke English. Kind of a toss up, but I'm going to go with the poisoning as that was a lot more severe overall. |

After getting my wisdom teeth removed (no pain at all went really well for me, process was horrible for the dentist though), recovering was the worst week of my life. So much blood, drooling, nonstop pain and too much ice cream. Doctor forgot to prescribe painkillers, it was horrible.
I can't decide if that was the worse or the time I sprained my ankle playing basketball. Took a fall and kept on playing like and idiot back in high school. By the time I had to go home I was dragging my foot, limping and grabbing on to gates and fences for support. My dad did some kind of home remedy, wrapped the foot up with bandages so tight I wanted to saw off my leg. The pain was horrible and when I woke up the next morning the bandages tore my skin and my leg was sort of blue. Never let him do the bandages after that. |

Reading some of the posts I feel the pain. I hope all the pain/suffering from the fellow GAFFers goes away, except the period pain :P IBS and severe cramps are my top 2. IBS, the usual stuff. Some days when its worse and the other days its bearable. It is the worst feeling in the world. So painful that I always felt on the verge of passing out. Once I was awake for about 30-35 hrs straight, all nigher for exam + travel etc and when I reached home I just crashed on the bed. While I was in the deepest state of sleep I got a cramp in my left calf that I stood up and started running. This was across the room, on top of a few chairs and tables, desks and then crashed on my bed again, probably unconscious. The next day my brother tells me the whole incident and I recollect parts of it, to this day it still feels like a weird dream (waking up and then start running in pain on top of tables, desks). I get cramps all the time but this was the worst of them. |
