It's down for me and I was playing dead nation with a friend last night and it was REALLY laggy at the end there. What's going on?

Edit: No, don't disregard this above poster. There is a problem with Sony's servers here. I can get online but everytime I try to enter account management or download history it says server under maintenance. ugh. :(

I can sign in, but I am having problems accessing the store. Basically:

First attempt - black screen
Second attempt - Gets to the store but when I go to a menu it times out.
Third attempt - Gets me a little further into the store but still times out.

FINALLY it tells me that the service is "undergoing maintenance".

This is ridiculous. I know it's a free service but the outages lately have been completely unacceptable. Wasn't it just down for maintenance last weekend? I'm off today and I want to fucking buy something. I'm sick of this shit.

my experience is the same as yours. I'm free today and want to play dead nation with a friend. If I don't play it today he usually plays with a friend and that OVERWRITES OUR SAVED GAME. How annoying is that. We could be playing right now but SONY is stupid and didn't give us advanced notice this was happening. Also, are online experience last night was EXTREMELY laggy. What gives?

But, above poster, at least you don't have to play a game in a certain window of time because your game overwrites your save file everytime you play it. I mean, in this day and age, is there really any excuse for that?

netguy: There's no excuse. I love a lot of Sony's first party stuff, but in terms of how they operate as a company/business I'm starting to get a bit scared. They're slow to react and don't seem to know what they're doing.

If they take down the network without notice, it is most likely an unschedueled thing.

Makes me wonder if Anonymous breached security again. So much for all that initial + scheduled downtime since this time last year if true.

Seriously? That's how inefficient it is? They just can't delete it from the servers without having to take the whole store offline?

Well that game is not in all the stores only some of them. They have to remove search tag tables from those stores too. The same way they did with Everybody's Tennis and Motorstorm, they removed demo version, too. Full versions turned up but demos don't :(.

Well then maybe it's time to nuke the store and come up with a better design. That's completely unacceptable.

This is why I always watch the jp network status, as SCEA is very bad at PSN status updates.

For the past 6-7 weeks there has been maintenance about 3 days a week, I have never seen it at this frequency.

The is some scheduled today,

http://www.jp.playstation.com/psn/state2.html

But it is a bit early...

The heck is happening with the PSN? For the past couple of days im struggling to even play SF3, Tekken 6 and SFxTekken online. There is a good reason why this piece of shit serivce is free. I'm not just complaining about the last couple days its a reflection of the PSN over the last few years.

i'm sure sony will release a PR stating that with the influx of new users and games from other competitor's platform flocking to the free Playstation Network service they have been working long hours to fix the downtimes they've been having.

Regular maintenance is a necessary part of operating a service such as PSN. As part of our efforts to continue to deliver you a world-class online entertainment experience on your PS3 and PS Vita devices, we will be performing maintenance on the network on Thursday, May 24th, starting at approximately 8:00 am PDT / 10:00 am EDT and concluding around 11:00pm PDT / 2:00am EDT.

During this maintenance period, you may receive a message that states “PlayStation Network is undergoing maintenance” when attempting to access the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Home. Online play will not be affected and you will be able to enjoy apps such as Netflix and Amazon Instant Video during this maintenance as well, provided that you have signed into the network within 5 days prior to the start of the maintenance period.

We will update you with any changes that may occur in regards to this maintenance. If you would like to receive a notice when PSN is fully restored, be sure to follow the official PlayStation Twitter account.

Thanks for your patience and support.

Or that the competitors doesnt do any maintenance at all! ;)

Seriously though, it would be interesting to know exactly what they do during these maintenance peroids. It is not about adding or removing products at least. They add new stuff every week, and they have removed some games without shutting down the PS Store first.

They started to happen way more frequently after the PSN hack. It probably has something to do with the increased security, or the changes they did to the network.

Yeah, so does anyone else have the problem of not being able to sign in? It keeps popping up an error of; "Sony Entertainment Network is currently undergoing maintenance". And I did sign onto PSN through my PS3 recently as this morning to play a round of CoD: BlOps at like 7 am CST. Anyone else having problems? Sony said that multiplayer is still supposed to work, right?
