Yeah, they talked about how the engine is doing a lot more than it seems. The level is constantly streaming new data but it's almost impossible to tell with the perfect framerate and 0 load times. The editor supposedly doesn't have a map size limit!
On the other hand, the update made it easier to unlock new levels. The scoring system isn't quite as rigid as before. You're still going to need to perfect everything to unlock the most difficult stuff but there's no chance you'd be able to finish those levels if you couldn't!

It took me a moment to get a handle on the controls (probably should have played the tutorial, but fuck tutorials) but I like this so far. I like pure platforming, with minimum or no story interruptions or unnecessary fat, and this seems to meet that standard. It's mostly just running, jumping and sliding, which is all I need from a platformer. The soundtrack is really nice, too.
Not many people on the leaderboards, though, only saw like 500 dudes on the very first one. |

Posted this earlier in the mostly-buried Community thread, but this game has my favorite 2012 soundtrack thus far (with Fez close behind). Great game, super intro, fun but challenging on a level that will always be above my means (didn't stop me from enjoying it plenty of course).

Bought game, played for 6 hours, cracked the top 8 in a level. Time to call it a day. I really like this game, but I've got some serious problems with it. Having 4 action buttons in this sort of game is way too complicated. There ought to only be 1 attack button, IMO. Also, this game drops frames a lot for me. During a dropped frame, none of my inputs are registered, and obviously it's visually jarring, so it almost always results in me messing up. Very annoying. Other than that, this game is brilliant. Great gameplay mechanic, excellent visuals and music. Very sad that so few people have bought the game. It look like less than 1000 people have played the game judging by the leaderboards, unless I'm missing something.

Beautiful animation, ambient music, lovely package.
Dragged all the way fuck down by an absolutely terrible difficulty curve. A lesson in developing the difficulty of a game in a stubborn vaccuum. The end result is the opposite of fun. |

Huge platformer fan myself. Definitely going to be returning to this now that the editor is out. Has anyone messed around with it, is it any good, or is the editor Meat Boy's all over again?
I've spent hundreds of hours working on experimental maneuvers, shaving 1/10 of seconds off times in Super Meat Boy, and Dustforce. Welcome to the club. |

As much as I love the game, I'd agree with the gripes against the difficulty (though I haven't tried it since the patch). Such a small percentage of players would have either the skill or the dedication to be able to complete the game properly, but it's still great despite that.
I'd like to see them take a lot of the game and maybe do a PSN/XBLA version that it is a little more cohesive in terms of both difficulty and structure (is there even an ending?) down the line as the foundations are really strong. |
