Indie Royale May Hurray Bundle (Dungeon Defenders, Weird Worlds: RtIS + 3 more)
#1
![]() Bundle Website The latest Indie Royale is live, the May Hurray Bundle! The headliner is Dungeon Defenders, which combines of Tower Defense and Action-RPG elements. Another game with positive impressions in the bundle thread is Weird Worlds, a space exploration game that looks like a combination of SPAZ and Flotilla (or Star Control 2 and Flotilla), judging from the video they have up there. The others, I don't know much about, but impressions are always welcome. Extras included right now are the freeware game Dr. Blob's Organism, the Voodoo Interface OST, and the Temporal Logic Grid Blues OST. People who spend at least $7 also get a chiptune album. Duration: May 3-May 10 Platforms: DRM-Free, Desura, Steam PC: All of the games Mac: Dungeon Defenders (Steam), Brainpipe

None of the DLCs are necessary. The base game is completely standalone. |

First off a lot of the DLC was originally given out for free... it's not amazing stuff and can easily be skipped (the seasonal themed stuff) Beyond that aside from the eternia shards levels, you can play all of the other dlc levels as long as you play with someone who has them. As for the extra character choices, they are nice but not a must, I haven't tried the series ev yet but all of the other ones could easily be skipped if you didn't want to spend the money. So that just really leaves the Eternia shards stuff, of which the nightmare mode can be played with others as long as the host owns it. so it's just the few levels you would have to pay for if you wanted to experience everything. Thus while the DLC list is large, as long as you have a friend who has most of it you can get away with out buying most of it. |

dungeon defenders has some of the worst inventory management imaginable and vomits loot at you like it's going out of style. there's some fun to be had with friends but i found sifting through all the shit they throw at you to be way too tedious to be worth the effort.
that being said, still in for this bundle for the other games, and the spare dungeon defenders key could be useful if a buddy shows interest (and doesn't own it yet which seems rare at this point). |

Geez, I bet none of them knew the other were offering this game on their respective service, hah. |

Only real problem with it is the game is boring alone, if you don't have friends to play with I would not bother at all. |

As I said before, it's sort of like a mix between SPAZ and Flotilla, but it leans very heavily towards the Flotilla side of things (Though I guess it would be more accurate to say that Flotilla takes after Weird Worlds, considering that WW was originally released in 2007). Much like in Flotilla, you are put onto a galaxy map with a career time limit (based on the size you chose for the galaxy), you travel to solar systems where you can usually do only one or two things (make contact with another ship, grab an item or equipment from a planet, hire a mercenary, trade items/equipment to buy other equipment, or encounter a random event). The top-down combat is technically real-time, but you'll probably want to pause it every so often so that it's easier to give your fleet new movement/firing/turning orders.
From what little I've played of it, it seems like an okay game. The time limit and scoring system encourage multiple playthroughs, and the random universe generation means that there are quite a few secrets to be found. I don't think it's worth the $25 that they normally ask for, but at ~$5, it's worth checking out. It also has some mods available, but I haven't tried any yet. Fake edit: I think I just finished what will probably be my best WW playthrough: Found a colony and their homeworld, got an ambassador, got Damocles, used it to destroy the undead lord's space station, bought the warp drive (Which pretty much nullifies the time limit), got a bunch of really strong weapons and systems for my lead ship, destroyed the fleets at two hostile homeworlds, and returned to the starting point after exploring every star on the medium-sized map. Ah yes, I also played Brainpipe for a bit. Odd game, reminds me of this for some reason: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKZT2u3gYQI |

Weird Worlds: I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I can't figure out how to return to Glory for the pirate mission. I'm in the system and I've tried clicking everything possible but the gangster doesn't trigger and I just keep being overdue.
::edit:: Nevermind, I guess you're supposed to just retire? I assumed from the story text earlier about keeping the ship that the game would have gone on longer.
