Asking the wrong crowd. I'm betting most of girlgaf knows who those characters are so the article is already lost on us.

My sister isn't even nerdy and she's super hyped for it.
EDIT: I'm hyped, but considering everything, it's not surprising I like super heroes and comic books considering they were pushed on me to some degree. |

I find anything referring to me as "girlfriend" inherently offensive, but that doctored poster art is hilarious.
Taking my boyfriend and 2 other guy friends to see it at midnight tomorrow. I've been psyched for this since Iron Man. As long as it's silly crazy awesome, I'll be satisfied. Tony Stark and Thor are going to be competing for my attention, heh. |

My boyfriend doesn't.
Got a sentence in and already feel kind of offended. The only reason girls would see a super hero movie is if their boyfriend took them? I'm going to see it tomorrow ><

Nah it already makes the concession that many women would see this of their own volition, it's for the ones not all that interested. It's just a really shitty article so it's not really satirical, witty or tongue in cheek.

I glanced at it but didn't really read it. I'm not into superheroes but I'm sure I know more than the average girl (if only by association.) I don't think there is anything wrong with a guide like that existing, though I would think if anyone was really interested in knowing more would be able to find that information fairly easily. Besides, generally superhero movies are able to be enjoyed without having a lot of background knowledge. You might not get some in-jokes, but I don't think that's necessary.

I like how they told me what stupid girl things not to say (they know me so well) and instead gave me some good after-movie chit-chat so that I can relate to my bf on this issue (not like we just sat through the same movie or anything).

It would feel strange and somewhat awkward if I weren't allowed to refer to my girlfriend as, you know, my girlfriend. Is it really that patronizing for women? Honest question.

It really bothers me when a guy says, "my woman." I think "girlfriend" is perfectly acceptable, though I wouldn't mind a move away from gender specific terms like that.

Yes, they do. I'm not saying that is wrong either.
Well, "wife" and "husband" don't work quite so well with lesbian and gay couples. Not to mention there are people out there that don't identify as either gender.

How about "my lady" or "lady friend"?

In order to be fair, I shouldn't like "my lady" either. It has a better connotation, though. "Lady friend" seems fine. I can't speak for all girls, though.

My boyfriend calls me "wife" even though we're not married. I think it confuses people sometimes. But I think it's not so uncommon in German? In German wife/woman are the same word (as well as husband/man) and I've heard other non-married couples refer to each other this way (not that my German is that great.)
A friend of my calls her boyfriend (and fiance now, I guess) "The Boy". She never refers to him by name. D: |

eeeeek! Mark Ruffalo <3 If he called me "hey, girlfriend" I would find that weird. I don't have a problem with being referred to in conversation as that, but boyfriend/girlfriend feels so bubblegum and high school-y. I don't think it adequately describes our relationship. He's referred to me as his other half sometimes, which gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside -w- |

Well, that was a good point to check out the lady thread... I've been seeing the person I like to call my boyfriend for nealry a year now and he's still closed off from calling me his "girlfriend" and pretty closed off emotionally period.
If I'm being honest here it does upset me if I end up thinking about it too much, I know he "likes being with me" but sometimes I'd like to hear a bit more than just that ya know. Girl/boyriend generally is fine with me, though I tend to use his name/surname when discussing him with other friends etc. I'm generally not into nicknames or pet names EDIT: just noticed the Avengers chat - I've caught it twice in the last week and both times REALLY enjoyed it! Note, I went on my own the first time and I TOOK HIM the second time (heh!) |

On second thought, I wouldn't really like being called "boyfriend" either. It sort of implies that I'm still a boy. D:<

Why god why at that thread on the Cracked article?!
Also, I don't want to post in there, but I'm pretty much the exact opposite of everything they're saying. ~Women don't have to work at getting laid~. Lol. I'm pretty sure I'd have to either offer a guy money or maybe threaten his life to get him to go out with me. Oop. And someone just put out there that ~dressing provocatively~ is like totally asking to be sexually assaulted. Goddamnit. |

I figured you'd bailed, Devo. The guy who started the thread said he believes that women dressing provocatively "has an effect" on being sexually assaulted. So... yep.
Billie, it definitely is. :( It's a circle of bad for me. Little self-worth > no one likes me > even less self-worth. And I know it shouldn't be defined by what others think of me, but... I'm kind of crazy like that. :( |

@Leeness- I'm really bad at encouraging people so I guess I can't help :( If I could help you, I probably wouldn't be so shy with self esteem issues myself...
