Just watched Akiba 04. Show's still brilliant. I think 12 episodes is about the right length for it, though. Don't want to draw things out and let the premise overstay its welcome.

Eh, I love Akagi, but I really don't think he'd work in a proper Sentai. The character works so well because of the tone and direction of Akibaranger, which wouldn't really fit in an official show.

Isn't Akagi pretty much Gai but with a less hideous face?

Gai was a hero worshipper in a world where Sentai, Gavan and Masked Riders (considering Super Hero War) actually existed. Akagi is deluded super geek. There's definitely similarities in their characterisation, but there's also key differences that should be considered.

Okay, I'm gonna be the one to say it this year...Go-Busters is getting WAY too much hate.

It's not a bad show at all, it's just not as mindblowing and lovable as Gokaiger was...mostly because Gokaiger blew minds. This show just has had a lot of growing pains in trying to be different too. Don't forget the fact that often times people are comparing it to Akibaranger which is also amazing.

It's not Gokaiger level, but it's not a bad show in the slightest. We could have Goseiger back, would people like that?

I'm actually inclined to agree with you, Edag. Go-Bust is a decent show in its own right, it's just had to be coming off Gokaiger and sandwhiched inbetween the unofficial show Akibaranger.

It's doing some cool stuff, like some shaking up of the ground->mecha battle formula, it's just got the unfortunate job of being caught between anniversarry season and a novelty season.

Go-Busters is fine, it is definitely better than Goseiger. Problem is that it's trying to do something (heavy drama) that it's not very good at.

Well, I don't know if I went over this before...but I think the problem is that they're trying to be very serious and dramatic, but they're afraid to actually take the full step over the line into total seriousness and thus is comes off as a little bland. Sentai (and frankly, Kamen Rider for a few years) seems afraid of getting too dark and depressing.

It's like Go-Busters is trying to embrace that very serious drama show, but they're just worried about embracing it too much.

Yeah....I don't know what people thought of the Shinkengers as characters...I always felt like they were some of the most real characters written for Sentai in years, and I thought the same thing of Timeranger, so I don't know what the deal is here...

Enter is an awesome though, but yeah GoBuster has the tendency not to push stuff.

Still, Ryuuji is awesome and the Buddyroids are awesome.

Yeah I love when they all have their own things going on. And we all know Dekaranger had the best cast ever.

Red and Yellow buster range from annoying to boring. I think the only reason I like blue is because he is an older ranger, something we haven't seen in forever.

Shinkenger probably has the best team ever, I really miss them.

Also, both Shinkenger and Timeranger have the same writer, which explains that. But she's also the writer for Go-Busters, so leave that to blow your mind.

tone him down a bit, but keep the excitement of being a ranger, and it would work.

Well, that's why I'm surprised the Go-Busters characters are so dull
so far. The others that she's written have always been very character focused show as opposed to crazy plot shows...and the characters themselves have been very human and very lovable, bursting with personality. Then again, OOO had boring characters too. Gingaman I don't think I've seen enough yet to decide how I feel about the characters there.

Yep, blue has super strength (like a Gorilla), yellow can jump really high (like a rabbit), and red can run really fast (like a cheetah).

But then what's the point? A toned down Akagi is just Gai after reading TVTropes. And that sort of fourth wall awareness doesn't gel well with a show that takes itself relatively seriously.

Theres not really any fourth wall in akibaranger. Other than tranforming, they stay grounded within the rules of their world. As for comical characters in serious stories, it worked well fot ziggy, chip and bridge in their power rangers series which were particularly serious. So then I dont see why it wouldnt work with such a character.

I just watched Kamen Rider W episode 24 which is the second part of the Radio Tower Clown episodes. I gotta say this episode takes the cake for bizarre stuff in this particular series' shows so far.
  • Really creepy fetish dude playing doctor with Taboo dopant's body (they really play up to the let me examine your body nyur hur hur thing and shes all super turned on by it)
  • Phillip crossdresses successfully and ends up having a shot in the arms of crossdressing man version of their Chief Akiko
  • Shotaro dresses in tights, paints himself blue in the face, prisses around like a fairy, talks in a high pitched voice, shakes his ass and waaaaaaves a little wand
  • Chief Akiko gets in a slipper fight with a tanooki (shes always about this god awful in acting though)
  • Moving romantic chase sequence between Shotaro and a male singer on the beach complete with slow motion and filters
  • Worlds worst singer and his fan
  • Bizarre crying moment for failed dramatic irony as the guy who collected tears cries onto his own tear collecting paper horribly fakely
  • Philip and Shotaro get a two page spread in a teen idol music magazine highlighting them for singing on tv. Apparently they are an underground hit and Philip wants him to put on a mask to sing Enka music with him.
  • W rides Accel (saw that one coming and wasn't really bizarre but hey piggy back ride at its coolest)

Love the show (except for Akiko :C ) but wow I think they saved up the crazy for this episode. I'm thinking once I finish W to go for either Faiz, Kuuga, Kabuto or Fourze. Not so big into the silly stuff like the above...any thoughts on what I should hit next and why?

EDIT: NM...episode 25 with the evil dolly beats this just for the sheer WTF of the fights. o_O

RPM Blue used the trope to his advantage when he used his roll call explosion to defeat the enemies behind him. The Gokaigers did the same thing in 199 Heroes when they used the Dynaman roll call to do the same thing.

That's exploiting a trope, which is still doable without completely breaking the fourth wall.
