Because his GF said those negative things to her. Hannah's opinion doesn't matter as much as the fact that Marnie thinks she's dating a lamer.

I read an interview where she said she wasn't getting naked for the show. So, yeah, unless something changes you are probably not going to see her tits. Sorry.

I just finished watching the third episode.

And boy -- it might a little early to call it -- but that just cemented my love for the series.

A lot of the scenes struck a cord with me.

Everything was put out there so honest and raw, and it really treats you as an intelligent audience.

Last scene with the Twitter screen and the Robyn song going off was just pure awesome for me.

Love it.

Felt like this episode was a bit of a step back compared to the last one, though I did like the reaction to the diary. Soshana's body is also a thumbs up. Horatio Sanz also had a funny description of Jessa.

People aren't logical and tend to blame other people when shit blows up in their face. My only real complaint about last night's episode is there is no way that guy would not have had sex with Soshana.

I'm surprised no one has brought up the bit about Jessa saying the only thing she would do is fuck Shoshanna if she had a cock. That got a laugh out of me, using a word as brutish as cock in a phrase that's meant to be sweet and reassuring for Shoshanna.

I really liked the convo in the beginning where Jessa is talking to Shoshanna about not feeling like going to work, and not knowing if you'll feel up to it on the morrow. It perfectly exemplified the entitled nature of these characters. It's also a very honest reaction that many people have when they first get a job. (mainly, like, teens who have never had a job before)

The scene where Shoshanna wants to have sex with that guy, but he doesn't want to was very unbelievable. Hot naked girl in bed? Check. Just ate her out? Check. She wants to have sex? Check. Says she's a virgin? SRY G2G! wat There is not a single straight/bi guy in the world who would turn her down in that moment. No way. His refusal felt quirky and off beat just for the sake of being quirky and off beat.

I liked that Marnie's boyfriend finally stuck up for himself a bit. She was being a total bitch behind his back.

Hannah's eyebrows...loooooool

Ok, the honeymoon is over. It's not as funny or as realistic as the hype claimed (that lonely guy inspired masturbation scene did the most to lower my expectations) but I really like the show. I find the main cast quite interesting if not all endearing. Love Mamet in particular; I still think of her mostly as the lesbian from Mad Men and who would have thought she'd be so hot and yet part of the 'Forever alone' club haha.

Edit: just want to defend Marnie for a bit. It kinda makes sense that she would be pissed off at Hannah who always said that Marnie should stay with Charlie (see the first episode especially) only for Hannah's true feelings to be exposed via the diary. Not that Marnie can't be a hypocrite herself; she ribs Hannah for never showing off her fuckbuddy but then doesn't take Charlie, her boyfriend, to work functions.

can we put it back up for discussion now that we've seen the minority characters in the flesh, the ones listed in the casting call that did a bit to spark the debate? Well not the racism in tv discussion, which I dont think many people were invested in, but the discussion on race in this singular show

Let’s talk about the storyline that didn’t work, though. Honestly, I don’t buy the “the show should be more diverse” critiques of the series, even as I think they are completely valid. Let me explain. The thing is, I don’t find it that hard to believe that Hannah Horvath and her friends mostly hang out with white people. I can totally see their social circle consisting of mostly their own race. So when there’s hue and cry for the show to add characters of different races, simply because they’re of different races, it edges uncomfortably close to tokenism for me. (If there was an actress of a different race on the show, but she never had any lines and was written with less alacrity than the other characters, would that somehow be a huge step up?) Where I think the criticism makes sense—kind of—is in the idea that the world these women live in should be filled with people of all races, religions, and sexualities, and in the first few episodes, it just wasn’t. Brooklyn’s a big, diverse place; the show should be, too.

But that’s less something to hold against the show right now and more the start of a dialogue. If the show is entering its seventh season and has yet to prominently feature any characters of more diverse backgrounds—like, say, How I Met Your Mother—then, yeah, it would make sense to level that criticism as forcefully as it’s been leveled against the series on the basis of just three (when thinkpieces were being written based on the screener HBO sent out) episodes. Yet already tonight, we’re seeing the series expand the scope of its diversity. Hannah’s workplace has people of other races in it, and that makes sense. Our workplaces are often where we encounter the most diversity, simply because they ostensibly don’t care about race, religion, gender, or sexuality, so long as the job gets done. (Sometimes they do care, but that’s another show, most likely.)

Yet the Jessa storyline was the first time I found myself rolling my eyes at the show’s lily-white depiction of New York. Jessa, of course, goes to the playground with her young charges, and while there, she strikes up a conversation with some other nannies (most of whom are of other races and portrayed fairly stereotypically, of course), who are shocked—shocked—that she’s a nanny and not a movie star. (What with the earlier and awkward dialogue between the two older guy friends about Jessa, much of the episode sounds like Lena Dunham attempting to explain to Jemima Kirke why she’s so darn pretty.) Granted, it’s a short scene, and the ultimate point of it is meant to be that Jessa’s still young enough to get caught up in conversation with these women so she loses track of the kids she’s watching. But the characters are still there to be contrasted against Jessa’s perfection and to facilitate her journey. There was room here for an interesting look at these other women, but the show makes them props in Jessa’s journey instead. Obviously, it’s a 30-minute TV show, and it needs to get on to the next thing, but this was the first time when I was really irritated by something Girls was doing when it came to trying to broaden its scope past the four central characters.

And I think the liberal-arts student in me really wants to engage in a dialogue about it, but as I learn about engaging with the media, I realize it's not the same as sitting in a seminar talking things through at Oberlin. Every quote is sort of used and misused and placed and misplaced, and I really wanted to make sure I spoke sensitively to this issue. ...

"I wrote the first season primarily by myself, and I co-wrote a few episodes. But I am a half-Jew, half-WASP, and I wrote two Jews and two WASPs. Something I wanted to avoid was tokenism in casting. If I had one of the four girls, if, for example, she was African-American, I feel like — not that the experience of an African-American girl and a white girl are drastically different, but there has to be specificity to that experience [that] I wasn't able to speak to. I really wrote the show from a gut-level place, and each character was a piece of me or based on someone close to me. And only later did I realize that it was four white girls. As much as I can say it was an accident, it was only later as the criticism came out, I thought, 'I hear this and I want to respond to it.' And this is a hard issue to speak to because all I want to do is sound sensitive and not say anything that will horrify anyone or make them feel more isolated, but I did write something that was super-specific to my experience, and I always want to avoid rendering an experience I can't speak to accurately."

Plus Hannah's speech to her creep boyfriend was really fantastic.

So, Michael Penn on the decks, Jody Lee Lipes on the camera. That's reason enough to tune in every week. On top of that though, the show has really great moments of dialogue, even if I think pretty much every performance on the show could use a little work aside from Hannah and the clown car of top shelf guest talent.

Past a certain age you just don't want to deal with that shit. Crying, blood, an yeah attachment are just no good. Also really after a certain point if your partner isn't experienced it just isn't fun.

I can attest to this fact and the roles were reversed. I was inexperienced while she was experienced, or at least had slept with more people than I had. It came up in the bedroom during the foreplay she was the second woman I had slept with. I thought she would see it as me “valuing who I sleep with and not just some man-whore”. Nope! Just a major mood killer. Once I allayed her apprehension and we did have sex there was no chemistry in the bedroom.

I can say that I will no longer tell a woman how many women I’ve slept with from now on.

I can understand it more when the guy is the virgin. Women have an orgasm something like 30% of the time when having casual sex and guys generally don't last long the first time or have a good sense of what they need to do for her.

On the other hand, the requirements for a guy to enjoy himself during sex are pretty low, especially when they're young. It's definitely a lot better with a partner who knows what they're doing but as long as they're not actively sabotaging it you still have a pretty good time. Especially if they look like Shoshanna and you only know each other from camp (or whatever it was).

Have you ever been with a virgin (woman)?
