I think the OP is a little misdirected. The woman yelling was saying be a man as in not a child who plays games. It was an age thing not a macho thing. My wife has made a few off handed comments of the same nature, yet she's bought me each of my current pieces of gaming hardware. Women. Anyway, that shit just rolls off the back anymore. Besides, I know how to prevent such comments. Begins with and o ends with an m.
Along the lines of where this thread has gone: Is watching college cheerleading championships manly, or just manlier than watching Bring It On? Um, that's just a recent thought experiment I had is all. |

Being able to make decisions and more importantly, sticking to those decisions once made. Don't let other people change your decision for you just because you want to appease them, in fact they will think less of you if you allow them to sway your decision so easily. Let them know that you have considered their opinion, but your decision isn't going to change. Be polite but firm in conveying to others that your decisions, once made, are final and no one can change your mind. Assert yourself, don't be afraid to flat out say 'no' to others. People respect those who can make decisions and stick to them.
Be positive Dont seek approval by asking redundant questions like “Is this okay with you?". If you're a man then your decisions are okay with you and everyone. And the usual stuff, hands out of pocket, no fidgeting, no slouching, eye contact while talking, look to the side not down if you need to break eye contact, stand up straight while walking and eyes on the horizon not down |

Biologically speaking - chromosomes and the ability to produce sperm.
Sociologically speaking - nothing. And I think it really matters what angle you're taking the conversation. You can't just ignore the genetic component when discussing science. Yes, it will be exclusionary and leave a lot of outliers but biology is messy and in order to discuss the science you have to have some standard definitions to work from. But applying the characteristics of biology into society is pointless. Biology can identify that there are members of a species that don't fall into the definitions but it doesn't care what happens to them. Once we start discussing personal viewpoints, qualitative characteristics and laws then the definitions from biology fail to serve us in any meaningful capacity. Biology only cares about reproduction. Society should only care about the people.

I think, that what defines being a man should be up to whoever is determining that for themselves. |

Thinking farts are hilarious. No matter how much we fight against gender roles and stereotyping as a society, this innate difference will always be present.
Women simply don't find farts to be nearly as funny as men do. I'm pretty sure even male babies/toddlers find them funnier than their female counterparts. |

As is often said in these threads, you're free to post on 4chan if you want an "anything goes" type of experience.

Quit coming to the defense of a moronic poster who likely will be back in a few months anyway. It's not up to you to decide what's banworthy or not dumbass.

Clearly you just need to listen to that man song in Mulan, shit will put hair on your chest!
On a serious note people are just too different and calling someone a guy or girl based on their actions or what they do is dumb. If you have a dick your a guy and if not you are a girl (or unic) |

This thread again.
Same answer I always give, and I'm always right: it's subjective. There's no universal standard you can apply to yourself that will automatically make you a "man". If you feel manly, you're a man. You can accomplish that in many different ways. Driving fast cars. Fucking women. Fucking men. Dealing with problems head-on. Subjugating your emotions and avoiding your problems. Having a dick. Having a clit. You are what you want to be. |

Considering the poster in question is gay, and even posted a thread about his coming out to his best friend, it's bit a harsh to call him moronic. He was being ironic, yes, and probably somewhat naively assumed that it would be read in that way because he is gay. However without that salient bit of information, the joke comes across as being homophobic and not ironic. Context is everything and I think it's a little unfair because from reading the last few posts about that comment, it's clear that his admission that he's gay has been lost somewhere along the way.

Come to think of it, I think the sentiment in the Lewis quote has already been nearly completely accepted by the mainstream in America. Harry Potter, countless super hero movies, The Hunger Games, etc. are all hugely popular with adults. The Wii was fairly mainstream, games like Halo and Call of Duty are pretty mainstream. GAF has threads on MLP, Adventure Time, etc.
