Maybe I shouldn't just use SDA as my speedrun source... |

Don't forget, he had reduce his health to half a heart and release a pair beetles scooping only one back up before doing everything you explained. Serious the condition to activate the glitch is absolutely nuts. I have no idea how he could have figured such a thing out.

Well yeah since SDA has a very thorough (and slow) verification process, most Zelda and SM64 runners don't even bother sending in their runs, as by the time the run finally gets published, it is most likely already outdated.

However, MST still uses tons of glitches and skips.

Yeah, the slow processing is a bummer :( It's a good site for someone like me who doesn't sit and watch live streams etc though. I go there every few weeks and I know I will get a verified speedrun of a certain quality to watch.

Now I have no knowledge of this, but I would assume this person looked at the coding or whatever, and found out the holes form there.

Most of the tricks used in at least OoT are found by people hypothesizing tricks using knowledge derived from other games that have been heavily exploited, and then testing it out. Others are found by just messing around in the game and stumbling across something that seems totally useless (such as being able to get Faraoe's Wind on the B button, which was though to be useless, and then coincidentally contributed to finding the first wrong warp resulting in the 50min runs), and then get pulled out to do some crazy glitch later. When the actual glitch is found, you can use memory viewers in an emulator to find out what exactly is going on, and then trying different setups to see why it works and how it can be fully exploited. I'm assuming the ganon warp was found by checking memory adresses for the ghoma warp and then seeing what had to be added to get a warp to near the credits, and then simply filling those conditions.

That one might be a more complete run category than MST. The only constraint on MST is getting all the medallions and stones from the main dungeons and completing the 6 trials in Ganon's castle. I like the MST run because it's got a good amount of the core game in it, but also a lot of glitches and broken sequences to make it work. This current any% run is just a complete breakdown of the entire game, much like the really low star count SM64 runs.

So Cosmo is streaming now. I think he just set a new WR at 22:31:58, not sure though especially with how fast people can beat the game now. He wasn't satisfied and he's going for Round 2!!

It must be so thrilling to do everything as perfect as possible while several people are watching. Edit: reset at the deku tree. Didn't reach the higher platform which leads to the second-to last room.

ZFG just set the WR @ 22:01.42, though he may have hit the final split late.
This obviously isn't the end, though. The fight for sub 22 continues! http://www.twitch.tv/zfg1 Also, a TAS will be uploaded to Swordless Link's YouTube channel soon. By TAS timing, it's 22:5x, but it's sub 20 up to Ganon's death.

Crazy thing is that it's not even just N64 and older. Metroid Prime is somewhat popular, and even Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword have been broken down enough for sub-6 hour runs. (TP sub-4)

Frankly, even Cosmo probably doubted that this was possible. It'll take a perfect bufferless run to 21:46. Plus, he doesn't seem to like any% all that much. He probably cares more about the MST record.

Swordless Link also did a TAS run with that exploit. With that TAS, he managed to do it in unter 20 minutes, 19:46.22, to be exact. With just 14 seconds under the 20 minute-mark, I really doubt that it is possible to get it under 20 minutes, or even 21 minutes for a non-TAS run. Still interesting to see how long it would take if someone would do a frame-perfect run.

Must be a Zelda thing. No one has posted the Link to the Past speed run?
