I've had this game for a while now, and I just need some gaf opinions before I decide to get rid of it.
1: how bad is the online? I don't really have much time to play online, but when I do I would like it to work. 2: how difficult is the 30 ranked wins in 30 days trophy? All other trophies look doable but this one looks like a chore. 3: is the community still there? I want to at least get that ranked trophy if I can. Honestly at this point I can get 25 for it at future shop. Probably sell the black code for 10 and get most of my money back. But I do like tm and would like to get the platinum for it. That being said, I M going to get final fantasy 13-2 shortly and dragons dogma is coming soon so I'm wondering if I should just cut my losses. |

Probably cut your loses then, but to answer your questions. 1. I haven't played much lately, but when I did I could play. There's still issues, but it isn't horrible. 2. Not sure. You can win team games to count towards this, but still you are looking at like 30 min a day for 30 days straight. Not hard per se, but that is a chore. Other trophys will take an even bigger time commitment. I didn't bother. 3. There's definitely people still playing. Getting the max level 30 though will take 20+ hours unless you cheese it with Talon. Why play then:) In short, keep it because it's fun to pop in every now and then. If all you care about is trophies, sell it. |

2- Not hard at all as long as you have time to dedicate to it. 3- The community is still there you usually see 50-60 games being played at almost any time. Its not a massive community but its a consistent one. |

Its the game man, I have the PS3 wireless Stereo Headset and will my volume all the way up the in-game volume for Twisted Metal is really low in comparison to other games. Really bugs me. Even with virtual surround sound on it is still low. If you try to run a custom soundtrack while playing TM your music will literally blare out all in-game sound effects.

I went to the mall today for the first time in at least a year. JC Penney had a Twisted Metal t-shirt as well as a Mortal Kombat shirt. I'm about to say fuck it and get them both as they were pretty slick in a SUPER nerdy sort of way.

Put this on for a weekend session and downloaded patch 1.5.
Ever since the game stays locked on the logging in to server screen and never actually logs in. Anyone else have this problem? Might have to sell this game on. Damn shame but I'd rather have some cash than this nonsense. |

I've been playing it online about three days a week for the past few weeks and it's been running fine. I'll occasionally hit a room I can't join, but that only prevents me from playing for all of ten seconds. I wouldn't bother with that 30 wins/ 30 days trophy, but god speed. I've experienced absolutely no trophy glitches. I tend to find plenty of rooms to play in, anywhere from 25-60. Your experience will depend on what time of day you jump in though. |

Thats how it was for me 3 days ago. I played a match with Axel and had tons of fun, the next match it was a 5v2 with the other team having a juggernaut, 3 meat wagons and a darkside, on the movie theater map...then it froze at the results screen.

So David put some more ending stuff up on his blog. In it he shows 3 Dollface endings and even some expanded Preacher stuff. I really like some of the Preacher stuff. He also said he'll put up some Sweet Tooth related stuff like this too down the road.

I really wish we got those multiple endings in the game. Having three, dense stories to play through like we got seemed almost adequate compared to the dozen or so in other TM games, but the various endings depending on difficulty would have sealed the deal if not made it a better package.

If anyone cares I did just trade it back without playing it. Kept the LE stuff so I can sort of rationale it out that I payed 15 for tmb. Ultimately I just don't have that much time to futz around with a game that is having the kind of issues that I've read about. Sorry jaffe :(

Reading some of the patch notes (haven't played in a long while) and this jumped out as some crazy clusterfuck:
Quote:
How the hell is Juggs so shattered? Temporarily has 55hp?? LOfuckingL Also, Nuke actually sounds viable XP wise now (like, XP really matters anyway). Man, a lot of these changes sound great. The RPG buff for Mr. Grimm was definitely needed. 120dmg should definitely mean I'll see more of it around.

While im not defending Jaffe...
Technically it's ESP's responsibility and always has been (to issue the update/patch info and keep in touch with community). David doesn't work at ESP any longer, nor does he or has he ever worked in PR. Im not sure why a single dev at ESP hasnt even gone on their Blog/forums and discussed anything with the community (wasn't that the entire point of making it?). It's just been Jaffe alone the entire time relaying info to people on twitter when there were mega bugs/error/freezes, when it wasn't even his job to do so. I've not seen this kind of absent communication from a game studio in a while.

Yea the game seems to be freeze/hardlocking more frequently than before. On top of the decision to keep party members separated really knocked the wind out of me. I mean the game is still an adrenaline rush and is a lot of fun. So damn depressed that this game didn't become as big as I had hoped (in terms of gaming community).
I will say that went I was at JC Penny's a few days ago to get some new pair of pants and I freaking found that Twisted Metal T-shirt that Unicorn posted. So freaking excited about that though, even though no one knows wtf the shirt is. I will still wear it with pride. |

I always did find it weird that a whole team developed the game yet it always seem like Jaffe made the whole game by himself because the studio has never said a thing. That blog was used like once, Jaffe always told us his-fucking-self when there was gonna be a patch, never a word from ANYONE at the studio. Sony or whoever fucked up with the demo, never fixed that, took it away, game released, had issues, got fixed slightly, we think it sold well idk, and you know who told all this? Not sony, not ESP, not scott campell, not anyone but Jaffe.
This is horrid support in my opinion, patch after patch that seem to do so little, no communication at all except from one man who doesn't even work at the studio anymore, How the hell did this game even get out the door? Jaffe is quite a trooper for being able to do this supposedly single handily, because as far as I know the studio is some faceless building that sony pays to make games. |

I agree. That's I think the saddest thing about it. I hate being right about things. I said sure enough with the lack of advertising etc that Sony wasn't going to give the game shit of support. Sure enough. It's still broken for a lot of people and still not running perfectly for anyone yet and it's been months and at this point it seems like Sony has pretty much moved on from giving a shit. I hate to also say that I'm seriously going to think twice in the future if there is another Twisted Metal. Hell I've been thinking twice about buying another Sony product gaming wise to be honest. Between the way they've treated the game, and online in general along with some other things I've really been turned off to Sony this gen.

I don't blame Jaffe either. I think when the surprise announcement that he was leaving citing he thought he should be closer etc was telling. I think he got a little screwed in this trusting the esp guys and not finding out until to late that the game was broken. He was communicating with us a lot but he hasn't been in this thread for a while. I think he has put it behind him.
For me though there are 2 things. 1) I don't know what Jaffe's next project is but how do you trust him? Maybe he shouldn't have left. Maybe he should have stayed with esp until the game was fixed. 2) Obviously Twisted Metal = Jaffe. I would have to think he doesn't want the game to go out like this. Perhaps his new studio will get another crack at it and the truth will come out about wtf happened here. The positive thing to come out is the gameplay engine. I don't think it would be that hard to come up with any kind of sequel, even in this gen. If Jaffe wasn't involved it wouldn't be a big deal if the same engine was used. They also established a continuity. They left it open to tell more of the story. They just need a new from the ground up lobby and matchmaking system because obviously they just cant fix it. |

Well, I haven't played in awhile. It was getting better, then seemingly worse, and then they stopped. So I don't actually know. :) I just wanted to say I saw that Bombcast with Jaffe and he mentioned something I completely agree with. I also hate how so many games take forever to just get up and running. They are a chore to play. Turn on the system, go through the menus, wait as the game loads, wait through 20 screens of who made the game, wait as the game logs online. Ect, ect. Compared to say my iPhone where I can be playing a game in under a minute. The problem is Twisted Metal is one of the worst at this! It takes forever to get playing. Thanks Jaffe! |

And yea last time I played it had actually gotten a bit worse so I gave up on the online. It's a shame too because when it works it's a goddamn amazing game to play. I still play a bit offline for the hell of it though. |

Jaffe is mad salty that the GB crew have said more on mic about the Battleship Movie tie-in game than they have ever said (or reviewed {lol what review}) of Twisted Metal.
Also, for as much as Jaffe complains about things that irk him about the state of gaming (story driven games, boot-up time before playing, etc.) he sure is fucking guilty more than he should be for as much as he talks about it.
