That's what roids do to you. I'm not saying that he's definitely on them currently, but they tend to make your stomach bigger and push out your abdominal muscles.

Your core muscles get big like that when you start doing really heavy compound lifts. Like squats, deadlifts, and over-head presses. Anything where you are loading a lot of weight on the posterior chain.
