I do find it odd that people are saying Torchlight 2 is going to be better than Diablo 3 when a demo for T2 hasn't even been released.
I just finished Torchlight today and loved the game. I am really looking forward to T2 and hopefully, the eventual MMO. But is D3's demo (which I have not played) really so bad that a game nobody's even played yet is supposedly going to be better? Really? |

They are aiming for D2 style I think, with random dungeons popping up so you can keep replaying the game but it will be different each time. That or you can just drop into the hub and go and find new dungeons as they keep changing? In other words: I have no earthly idea ;) |

There was a live stream today and T2 looked good, very fluent. Guys said they have no plans for the MMO anymore and everything is focussed on T2.
And it was so good D3 will sell millions within days.

I wasn't so fond of it, which is why I preordered T2. Might buy D3 when it's on sale later. |

D3 is going to be an amazing game, but if you don't like the direction they're taking, T2 and Grim Dawn have you covered. I'm looking forward to playing all three. |

I think it's a good idea for a small studio to focus on something they can really polish.

Er... I think the MMO is suppose to be built off the same engine as TL1/TL2 so by making those games they're creating the foundation of the MMO but aren't technically "making an MMO". Unless you heard "MMO canceled" from Max Schaefer or Travis Baldree I wouldn't 'confirm' it.
With that said, I have no interest in an MMO from Runic so I wouldn't care either way. |

I've bought the four-pack, mostly in order to play Torchlight and have ended up dedicating a significant amount of my weekend to torchlight one. Very enjoyable.
Considering I hadn't touched a game of this type until the Diablo 3 beta, I'm pleasantly surprised at being exposed to a completely new genre. Cannot wait for its release. |

Bleh at the anti-D3 rhetoric of the people in chat though... |

Looks great, but damn they went even deeper with the cartooney look, didn't they? Maybe it's just due to the fact that it's daylight in the stream.
Uelmen's music seems oddly out of place.
Most recently, the amount of anti-Diablo III spam was kind of ridiculous in that Path of Exile game.

Apart from getting asked if he's going to play D3 a couple times an hour it didn't seem that bad to me.
And I really like the way it looks, very pretty. I could just let it sit and watch the day/night cycle do its thing. The next area in the beta is a little less green hill zone and a bit more ice cap zone, though. But still cartoony obviously.
There's bound to be a demo come releasetime though. |

Well the ones talking to him sound like idiots when they do that cause they just do that because it's a T2 stream, but in a sense you can understand why there could be some hate towards D3, and especially when you look at what they did with Torchlight 2.
I played D3 Beta during the Beta week-end and 'completed' it with all achievements, and liked it (way more than i thought I would because I literally had zero hype for it with what they showed) You can't really compare D3 and T2 in terms of scope/budget since one is a big blockbuster game and the other really more of an indie/small studio game, but when you start comparing the two in terms of game design and mechanic choices, it''s like Diablo 2 had two sons that went two different routes. D3 is the 'new' diablo with all the 'modern' game design look / ideas and features that blizzard created and refined over the years, be it good or bad (and real bad ....) That makes the game a breeze to play but they somewhere lost some of the look and feel of what made the Diablo series so far in the process. T2 is the more 'classic' take on the subject that keeps the key aspects of the game and improves or builds on this basis with incorporating new ideas. And looking at it, and with me replaying some T1 since the D3 Beta, Torchlight 'feels' way more like Diablo 2 as the D3 Beta ever did. But in the end we have two quality titles to play with, so it's a win for everyone who isn't completely stupid about it. |

At the price TL2 is at you could buy it JUST for when you are away from the net or Blizzard's servers are down, it's not a choice between the two as they are Apples and Oranges. |

Now, in order for Torchlight 2 to be "one kind of a Diablo 2 son", it NEEDS to have a meaningful endgame. It needs to have a semblance of balance. Just a touch of it. Because so far, that is what is crucial in making the game timeless. And I know: at the end, Diablo 2 itself does not have real balance with the bullshit that is Enigma and the difference between a few top builds and other, sub-optimal ones. But the cracks only gets to be seen in Hell, which is way better than anything that the original Torchlight had. I seriously would love to see a real improvement in this regards with Torchlight 2. Then it would be an alternative. Until then, Path of Exile might be more of a real alternative to Diablo 3. |

I never tried the XBLA demo for Torchlight but from what I hear they did a good job with control mapping. |
