Same as my Gaf name. =)
I work the graveyard and my shift starts in 1.5hrs. Have been resisting the temptation all afternoon to throw a sicky so I can play this. Work is going to go slow tonite, but on the upside, I'm home when the internet is at its quietest. |

So many crazy stories. One from our last playthrough -
Found a bandit den filled with bandit bodies in Cherno - pillaged their remains for some sweet ass gear, including a shotgun with an under-barrel flashlight. Came in super handy when we ran out of flares to signal our location to a friend and I turned my character into a spinning beacon of bright light. Game is so goood One day, DayZ bros, one day -

Sometimes the most interesting sessions feature no other human players. I started near a factory and did my best to explore without alerting any zombies to my location, creeping around and keeping my distance. Near what looked like a train station I found my first new weapon: A winchester rifle and 15 rounds of ammo! I felt like a god! Then I went inside the station and found a pair of binoculars! These were my first real supplies apart from food and drink that I had ever found.
So I creep around the station and factory area a bit more, holding my rifle with confidence the whole time. Suddenly I realise I'm about 10 metres from a zombie and he goes nuts, so I run up a ladder (big mistake) and am now stranded on this scaffolding as about a dozen zombies go crazy underneath me. I wait a while to see if any other players come along but no one does, so I attract them down to one side of the scaffolding and then quickly race to the opposite side's ladder and climb down. Then I ran maybe about three or four miles, picking up more zombies as I went through a small town. Finally I see an electrical yard and I race towards it, praying that there is something I can climb up or a place I can bottleneck the zombies so I can take them out. I find a two metre high ladder that leaves me on top of a big ol' fuel tank, and I take a hit while climbing. So that leaves me here: ![]() Luckily the zombies are really stupid and can't operate ladders (but they've figured out how to teleport through doors!) so I headshot about 15 of them with my Makarov and the heat dies down. Now I'm holed up in another small town a few miles away from the electrical yard, smoked a few more zombies from my second story hideout, and I found a jerry can! This game keeps getting better and better. |

Story time.
Finished my early dawn Stary Sobor gear run and backtracked south to cover my retreat from this hostile area since i had to kill a fellow traveler in the dark. Looked like a bandit from behind, one flash in the dark and i was a murderer again lol :( Bit southeast i found a dead bandit inside a remote barn. Seemed a bit odd since he had his valuables still with him. I was very surprised he had blood bags among other things so that was like a jackpot since i didn't feel like traveling to hotspots just for extra. No fancy weapons, just winchester, uzi~ ... I asked in chat what happened but since there were only dozen players online i didn't get any answers. Barn was on my route to east so i kept going, then i saw a tent just uphill from the barn! Must have been storage for him, somehow he died at that barn, no zombies around so what happened there :/ Tent was bursting with gear, M16, M4, lots of ammo for military weapons, 5 blood bags. I didn't figure how to pick a tent from the ground so i just took what ever i needed and moved to darkness. all survival gear within 15minutes, feels good.

During out GAF group adventures last night when we raided the military camp at stary sobor I lost 6 mags for the m16 when I switched to another M16 that uses the same ammo, screwed me over pretty bad. I'll have to go sneaking around to try find some ammo or a different weapon, don't have enough ammo to kill even one zombie right now.

Yeah, good thing is EU servers seem to be playable for US people and vice versa, Rygar 8 Bit wasn't having any more connection issues than we were, haha.

Anyone else want to see if they can track down the process or people to speak to about setting up a open/private server for GAF.
Once we know how I'm sure we can follow it up with implementation super quickly. The way this is growing the server issue is going to be getting worse and worse and it's already a nightmare now. |

Would be very nice if they'd allow people to host their own servers in this.
Then I'd be willing to give it a shot, sounds fun just exploring a huge world with randomized loot. Not a fan of being restricted to other peoples servers though. Not a huge mp player. |

Yeah, at one point we were rolling around on the side of the road for about 30-40 minutes waiting for the rest of the GAF group to get back in when the server crashed.

Anyone want to pick this up and move forward with it? And anyone want to manage server donations for hosting fees? |

That's a part of the charm, figuring out where you are and where to meet up with others. We spent a good few hours getting the group together yesterday.
If you spawn as a new character the game will briefly display where you are at the bottom right, but sometimes it might just say wilderness. There's a fairly good map you can open up in the steam browser I posted here a page or two back if you haven't found a map in game yet. |

Man we are desperate for a update OP for the answers to all of this plus the handy links like that map and key bindings etc.
Sure we could create one and get a Mod to inject it in. |

Have yet to try this mod out, but will definitely do it soon with some friends, looks ridiculously awesome.
Would be nice with a full version of it, where I'd like the user limit and world to be a lot bigger with features like 'seasons' would be pretty cool. As in you only get one life every season with some new twists thrown into every run, a bit combined with Battle Royale. Really intrigued with all the possibilities you could have with player interactions at this level.

I might use mumble/steamchat to get bearings with people and decide where to meet up though. |

Ingame voice chat should have directional audio/voice chat so that would be awesome, would make keeping the group together in the middle of a pitch black forest slightly easier.

I would also like the option to turn off chat messages. |

And so the tale of Mickey Knox the VI's of his name comes to a close.
His journey began on the ship yards of Elektrozavadosk, he crawled, ran and fought his way across miles of bad road through cities and villages, acres of forests and grass lands, climbed mountains, he watched the sun rise, set and rise again, battered by the rain, hidden by the fog. He died alone in a field, finally succumbing to his wounds.

i think they need to limit chat messages by range as well. I rather not know of a massive duke out on the other side of the map and the chat messages involved when I am in some quiet village sneaking about as it has no relevance. Maybe limiting to 10km or something.
