LTTP: PS3
#1
Recently my brother handed down to me his PS3, and well he only had 3 games Modern Warfare 2(Boring), Rock Band (No instruments) and Dead Island (Have it on PC no need for it).
I went out earlier today and got: - Soul Calibur V - Nier - The Darkness II - God of War III - Kingdoms of Amalur All for $75. So if you guys could suggest some games (besides the obvious Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank series.) that would be nice! Oh, my PSN is IceDoesntHelp if you'd like to add me (: Thanks in advance!! EDIT: EDIT #2: If you could avoid suggesting games that are on PC that would be nice.

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift is a pretty great racing game. Skip the first game. Haven't played Armageddon, but I hear it's not as good.
inFamous is a pretty great open world superhero game. The sequel is also pretty good. |

Forget the console itself.
What games are you into? Tower Defense? Shooters? If so, FPS? TPS? Single Player or Multiplayer? Sports? RPG? That's how I push people toward games, I ask what they like. At this stage of the console generation, I'd say there is no real need to ask. Download every and any console exclusive demo. There are tons for all systems. A few friends of mine, knowing how easy they like life to be and how much they think rpg's are for geeks, they would punch me in my mouth if I recommended demon's souls to them. I could tell you to grab all the pixeljunk games that are for a $1 but you may not like them. MAG and Killzone 3 have free to play models. It really is hard to recommend games to people I don't know, let alone real life friends. Hell, you can usually tell from our bar sessions that we are not into the same type of women so games are even harder to recommend. What games are you into? From the list of games you picked up it seems only one of them are a ps3 exclusive as well, do you care if they are exclusive? |

I'll just post a few based on your preferences.
Siren- One of the best Horror games this generation. Killzone 3- Visual spectacle, great core gameplay that doesn't do much beyond that but worth playing nonetheless. Not many games get the basics right so its refreshing, especially the quality Ai. MGS4- annoying installs aside, its another spectacle with great core gameplay and a convoluted yet entertaining story. Its really fun messing with the A.I. and there is a variety of ways to tackle each situation. Never a dull moment really. Demons Souls- One of the best action games this gen. PSN: Flower- play it when you are in the mood to be immersed, preferably at night and crank your sound system (hopefully you have one). Journey- Same as above. Also a sale on PJ games as others have mentioned. They are all quality so buy them all (never played Racers though). |

FPS - Resistance Series for the single player (resistance 2 co op is awesome but the rest of the game is meh, 3 is great) TPS - not much here, confrontation (multiplayer only) is better post patch but full of cheaters, you need a clan. Socom 4 is great as a tps but if you like socom stay away from it. warhawk (multiplayer only), starhawk, Metal Gear Solid 4 RPG - valkyria chronicles, demon's souls, folklore, disgaea series, heavy rain (wasn't sure where to put this one) Puzzle - LBP, uncharted (some only think of it as a shooter), catherine, echochrome Action/Adventure - inFamous series, heavenly sword, Metal Gear Solid 4, god of War 3 for the price of one month of Playstation Plus you may also find a ton of PS1, PS2, MINI, PSN and third party games to download for the month worth checking out. |

indeed, second only to dead space this gen and that is primarily due to the fact that dead space is more user friendly meaning easier to get into and play.
Siren is not only scary has a bit of a learning curve control wise. |

Just jump on PSN and grab the GT Academy demo. Over the next month they're running a competition where you're able to drive multiple cars and several courses (including downloadable only courses). Most of it is just license test style modes, but there are some actual. It should give you a good idea if you're going to like the gameplay.

I was LTTP this past January!
Love the console. Grab Killzone 3. Almost on par with pc graphics, but its pretty linear. I just played it for the graphics. Story is pretty bad, if not only cause the voice acting/dialogue sucks monkey balls. I adored Heavy Rain, if you liked Indigo Prophecy or Dear Esther grab this. (If you like Qte's). You snagged God of War. Good choice. Other than that, everyone else can recommend stuff. |

Most of the games I would have recommended have already been mentioned, but I just want to second Infamous. But don't overload yourself with a ton of games right away. You'll just get overwhelmed and end up not finishing the games.
Also don't forget PS3 is a kick ass blu-ray player. |

That because it was released when PS3 was sold for $600, game sold like 5 copies or something(I have two copies so it actually sold 4 copies), but it's a hidden gem, a truly amazing and unique experience full of pure awesomeness.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I have a question that isn't particularly thread-worthy and its PS3 related. Also going to be really easy to answer.
Basically just needing good old fashioned 2 channel, L/R speaker output. I have a receiver and two working speakers (some of my other speakers... broke or something, I used to be using it for 5.1) but I'm not sure exactly what kind of cables I should use for 2ch. Would an optical cable do it or would I just need to get two regular speaker cables? |
