What alot of people want out of Toonami is not what it was originally about. I've asked countless times on the [as] boards the younger fans what does Toonami mean? In one way or the other a large majority of them say "all anime" and stuff... they forget is that Toonami was about bringing the best animation to the block, period. The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, ReBoot, ThunderCats, the old Superman animation, Batman: TAS... tons of pretty darn good non-anime programming. Not to mention they could cherrypick tons of the better old/current Japanese anime shows since the bubble was a long way from bursting and animation was still a big draw back then. Plus, the fans on the [as] boards (which were still on cartoonnetwork.com) weren't at war with each other over "American animation vs. Japanese anime", "[as] hates anime fans" and other nonsense. They ate up what Toonami was serving, because the presentation was kickass and the extras (music vids/reviews/specials) were so innovative over what was around at the time (lol SciFi's Apollo Smile) they could do no wrong, even when they did! I have been a fan of Toonami since Day 1, Moltar's first broadcast. I actually taped many of the shows on Toonami and shipped them to my sis, who was in the Army in Korea. Now regardless I would've been a fan of Toonami anyway, but man they made the perfect scenario... they didn't cater to any one group per se, they explicitly stated they were out to air the best animation back then, and they did... except for Hamtaro, but they're allowed a slipup. :D

Yep. Put this "anime sucks now" crap to rest by showing quality current shows that people are too lazy to research on their own. Let's revive a medium here! The younger generations need an outlet for that stuff.

Haha, It's not bad though. The fact they even opened a Toonami board, that they haven't closed it, and appointed official helpers for it says a lot.
March 25 Week before Toonami ratings 9.30p KING OF THE HILL... 990,000 10.00p KING OF THE HILL... 1,085,000 10.30p Family Guy... 1,660,000 11.00p ATHF... 1,014,000 11.15p ATHF... 888,000 11.30p METALOCALYPSE... 781,000 12.00a Bleach... 822,000 12:30a FMA:B... 522,000 01.00a DURARARA... 416,000 01:30a KEKKAISHI... 354,000 2:00am FLCL... 371,000 2:30am Cowboy Bebop... 370,000 3:00am Big O... 385,000 3:30am Ghost In The Shell... 429,000 4:00am Bleach... 419,000 4:30am FMA:B... 399,000 5:00am DURARARA... 291,000 5:30am Inuyasha... 319,000 April 1 Toonami Week ratings 9.00p King of the Hill... 741,000 9.30p Childrens' Hospital... 601,000 9.45p NTSF:SD:SUV... 485,000 10.00p Loiter Squad... 522,000 10.15p Check it Out... 426,000 10.30p Family Guy... 1,211,000 11.00p The Boondocks... 1,134,000 11.30p ATHF... 835,000 11.45p ATHF... 863,000 12.00a Bleach... 1,010,000 12.30a Dragonball Z... 999,000 1:00am Gundam Wing... 806,000 1:30am Tenchi Muyo!... 773,000 2:10am Outlaw Star... 786,000 2:42am The Big O... 769,000 3:12am Yu Yu Hakusho... 706,000 3:41am Blue Submarine No. 6... 595,000 4:20am Trigun... 561,000 4:53am Astro Boy... 502,000 5:23am Gigantor... 414,000 It did way better ratings than a normal Saturday night. The newer generation doesn't know shit. Don't bring Toonami back. It'll eventually become shit. Let it rest in peace.
/salty, mad, etc. Toonami was like, a ritual for my sister, two cousins, and I. When we came home to my grandmother's house from school, it was Toonami until we got picked up...it was more than just a program. It honestly was childhood defining in ways. Fuck. |

Man, the Toonami lineups were fucking legend. Kenshin, DBZ, Tenchi, All the damn Gundams.
The kids dont need to see the classics, BUT bring back the bass, the vibe. The show previews, narrated by goddamn Optimus Prime. Show a cool ass animated movie every week, maybe partner up with Gorrilaz, or Daft Punk, show some music videos. Have a game review by TOM once in a while. They were great. I think the kids today are ready for a full on action block. It's not "gender neutral", it will skew to boys, but goddamn, even the girls will love it. |

Like I said earlier, that was what made Toonami cool. The shows didn't sell the block so much as the presentation around the shows sold the block, not to mention the message that was pounded day after day after day: That you by watching us are supporting the best animation block of new school/old school shit known to man.
Unfortunately, I don't think that can be effectively replicated in today's world. |

I'm making fun of it more due to the also pure anime slant.

So even the Adult Swim Backdoor schedule completely skips over the "new" spots on the schedule.
Also this aired last night after Big O. EDIT: Turns out that bump is from December 2010...

I think people want a Toonami block back, not just two or three shows.

Ok, so the Adult Swim Upfront is tonight at 9PM. They don't typically announce things there (it's basically a party) BUT...Steve Blum's had this to say.
![]() Although he's talking about something for 5PM. Could be a Press Release, no PR has been out yet even though several pilots have been announced. Be on the lookout. |

And I know how important nostalgia is to some people, but if Williams Street thinks bringing back Toonami means filling the whole block with oldass shows and expecting people to tune in week after week is what'll work, then they honestly deserve to lose it again. That'd be a complete waste of the block. |

If he had info for 5PM unrelated to Toonami it would actually be better for him not to share it personally to build people's hopes up. There's Jason DeMarco, co-creator of Toonami, who, as I've posted here a few weeks ago, was recently promoted to VP of Marketing and Promotion. There's also Mike Lazzo, who originally thought of the idea of a big block of cartoons, who's now President of Adult Swim. The Toonami guys are still around for the most part. |
