I think the most amazing thing the ArmA community does really comes with island design. That adds an entire new playground to play in, especially if it gets mission support. For fucks sake, they remade the island from the original Ghost Recon!

I think being lost in a foreign land is part of the charm (Chernarussian forests are naturally creepy). We've seen US soil in too many zombie movies.

A video of my exploration with Salacious Crumb.
Our early fight with zombies, Crumbs gushing with blood, exploring a toilet and a castle and our last epic zombie chase. This had it all! |

What time are we trying to group up tonight? I'm Hawaiian time so I'm 3 hours behind California and 5 or 6 behind east coast. I'm thinking 1800 or 1900 California time might be reasonable to get together again. Thoughts?

ACRE can't be added yet because of how the whole persistence works in the mod atm. and ACRE's radio channels aren't meant for a persistent world, it creates new channels when needed so you'd end up with thousands of different radio channels and that would most likely kill the server, I forget what else he said about it though. I've given a rough description of how this mod's character data works earlier in this thread, but the gist of it is this: some of you have probably encountered that bug or server error where you spawn with no items in a forest, that's the actual or primary character you start as when you join the server and also the reason why the chat channels are fucked for now (everyone is in that same area close to each other). When the main server works as intended you get transferred to you "real" character that's fetched from the main server. This system is in place to avoid some exploits like item duplicating, if you didn't have the character there in the woods you'd leave behind a body when you disconnect or your game crashes. The "primary" character makes it possible for the main server to react to this. I'm sure they'll figure out something for the current alt + f4 exploit too. Sorry if I got some stuff wrong, it's been some days since I heard him talk about it on a stream and it's getting pretty late. |

Thanks! Added a link to the previous chapter. Somehow my photobucket account went through all of my 10gb of bandwidth in four days so the pictures in the first are broken for now.
No idea yet on time, but I'll be around! |

Awesome recap, Wedge. That was a pretty great run we had.
Krappa, I was in the group too. I'm static. I probably won't be able to make it on tonight until 11:30 or 12:00 EST. Hopefully you guys are near the same area and don't need the jerry can I have on me. |

Not true, really the bandit skin needs to go. Just allow for greater character customization don't force something upon people which automatically colors others interactions with you.

I have no idea what is going on.
Everything appears to have installed correctly. Yet, every time I connect to a server (after waiting 10 minutes or so for the server to respond), I always spawn in the forest (not on the coast), and the game world is completely silent. There is no ambient sound. No footsteps, no nature sounds, nothing. All of the audio is present in the single-player game and in other non-DayZ multiplayer games. In addition, I cannot enter third-person mode in DayZ. I can in the single-player (didn't test in other multiplayer). Finally, I see weapon icons, which according to the single-player tutorials means "pick up by pressing enter", but this does not work in DayZ. Once, on the UI, I did see a red broken chain, which turned to a yellow broken chain, then back to a red broken chain. This only happened once on one particular server. Help?

I strongly disagree with you here, but I wouldn't mind a few more "levels" to bandit skins so you could have a rough idea of how many murders he's committed.

If you have been injured, sometimes your hearing is messed up and you can't hear until you take morphine or painkillers. In regards to not being able to enter third-person mode, some servers restrict that and force you to stay in first person. When you see a weapon icon, use the square brackets to see available actions. One of them should say "Gear" or "Pick up ..." select that option and then hit enter. If all of these issues occurred the very first time you played, then I'm not sure. If you don't have much valuable, you could try just getting killed so you get a new spawn.

In real life you wouldn't know another person killed other players so it's silly they magically change their appearance after doing so. |

I agree with Arucardo's idea of having a multi-stage system. It would really explore the various ways people handle each stage and what kind of assumptions they make based on each. This isn't just a game/mod, it's an experiment in its own right and the developer has no qualms about being upfront about that.

Otherwise the game could just be encouraging players with lots of equipment to camp spawn points and continue farming new players who will not be able to tell a difference (more so than already happens). Are you by any chance a bandit? For non-bandit players, the only downside to the bandit skin I can see is if a "normal" human starts shooting at you and you kill them in self defense, since the game will presumably label you a bandit. I wonder if it's possible to grief players this way, by suiciding as a freshly spawned human and making everyone become bandits.

I can't agree with this. It's nice having some kind of indicator of people that play dirty.

Yes, there's a tutorial on how to do this on the DayZ forums I think. |

That whole forest bug happened multiple times to us last night when we tried to get in with a group of gaffers. |

Bandit skins are poorly implement and even then create an unnatural and artificial divide between various players. Again I am not a bandit, but say I decide a certain person I encounter is a danger to me, or they have some nice loot and I dont feel like theyll be that great a companion and I kill them, but then I encounter another person who I deem is more trustworthy or compatible with me and my survival. I cant approach that person or expect to be able to start off our relationship on equal footing because they have unnaturally been notified that I kill another player. And this is just an example of me willingly killing another player. Many people are bandits due to self defense and suffer for it. This is a game about uncertainty, so why have a feature that distinctly labels certain players. http://www.dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=720 Made by Rocket himself.

I play as a survivor/serial killer/bandit mix. I will help the odd person but I very rarely team up. Occasionally I may see a lone traveler and I will follow them, watch what they're up to, wait for them to loot a place and then move within range to get a kill. Much easier letting my victim do the hard work.
Last night I walked to Stary Sobor, I heard gunshots from the military camp so approached from the northern treeline. I saw 4 guys checking the tents, three survivors and one bandit. I waited for a clean shot and put the bandit down. The three survivors hit the floor, stayed in cover for around ten minutes and then took off south. I didn't fire on them. I have taken to only playing at night, daylight feels more dangerous now. Trust no one! |

Indigo MOB Doc Krappadizzle BS Wedge Static Lets all shoot for 1900ish PST(California Time) If we need to wait around a bit for everyone to get together I'm okay with that too. Also NIX if you need help troubleshooting a stream I can log on a bit earlier than 1900ish PST and work with you and try and figure out the problem. Side Note: Was there an UPDATE today? I read earlier about crashed choppers being put in. What files need to be updated if that is the case? |
