Do you have an emergency bag? #1

I actually call mine a to-go bag...haha

But this is a bag I keep by my bed if something happens say natural disaster, riot, invading army, or zombies (haha) where I need to leave very quickly. I have just started this bag, but here is what is in it so far...

portable CB radio
utility axe
swiss army knife
multi-tool
2 large packages of matches
4 lighters
roll of duct tape
4 bottles of water
package of dried beans
package of dried fruit
2 packages of beef jerky
First aid kit
1 bar soap
3 pairs of necessary clothes
A notebook and pens

This is only the start of the bag, I know I am probably forgetting something. If you are wondering the bag is a large travel travel knapsack

So do you have an emergency bag? If so what is in it? And what should I add to my bag?

The few times I thought of creating an emergency kit I came to the conclusion that it was a waste of money and space.

How often are there natural disasters or anything that you'd need to leave home and live out of an emergency bag? Pretty much never...

Ever notice how it's nothing but fat, white people? If something ever does happen we'll sure have plenty of those left. Also, I guess black people don't go in for that sort of thing because they have actual shit to worry about.

Yes, I have a bag and half a storage unit filled with 'survival' gear/food. I'm good to keep my family alive for 3 weeks if everything went dark. Didn't freak out or anything, its more about natural disasters since I've lost a house to a fire and experience other 'end game' like scenarios. Spent about $300 total over 2 years building my stash. Its my duty as a husband and father to take care, so it was a no brainer.

No, because I don't believe that reptilian aliens are going to invade the USA 49 seconds from now(and in doing so use their secret perfect technology to zap all of the gas out of every vehicle), take out the government, and destroy my house but conveniently leave me exactly 17 seconds to get out first, creating the need for a pre-packed backpack full of goodies that I leave next to my door or near my person.

The cost/benefit for doing such a thing just isn't good. Seems like the epitome of manufactured rich people bullshit. It's like we have a biological need for conflict.

Or a natural disaster could hit, like what happened last year in Japan. There's plenty of logical reasons to have a few things "just in case".

I doubt there are only very few natural disasters that would actually leave you entirely stranded and needing to use survival equipment.
Maybe if you live in some very remote place, but in an urban or suburban environment? Please.

OP, I have absolutely no idea how you keep beef jerky by your bed at night and refrain from eating it. It must be terrible beef jerky; if not, you have some pretty respectable will power.

When is a natural disaster going to hit that leaves me (and my backpack full of whatever-the-fuck) fending for myself without a home, government influence, or 10 minutes of pre-awareness to prepare the backpack using all the stuff I already have laying around the house that I could use? Sounds highly, highly paranoid to me.

Stocking up on weeks of food, guns, ammo, power generators, fuels, etc.? That, to me, is being paranoid. After seeing what happened in Japan, and knowing that I live in a place that could get just as big (if not bigger) of an earthquake, I see absolutely no harm in having a backpack full of stuff "just in case".

Will I need it if such a disaster should strike? Hopefully (and probably) not! But if an effort that takes me very little actual effort (or money) should happen to come in handy just in case, then I see no reason not to do it. 99.9% of the time, I don't need the flashlight that I have by my bed—but I like knowing it's there should I need it.

I agree to an extent, but it's such a low cost investment that it's hard to argue with I guess. My fiance's family has some serious paranoia issues that run through some members of the family (NOT stereotypical conspiracy theory internet Alex Jones paranoia necessarily, but a more immediate, day-to-day psychotic form). It tends to be pretty debilitating. In the case of a freak accident, I'd imagine a number of people on her mother's side of the family would actually spend more time saying "I knew this would happen, everything has gone wrong just like I said, and now my neighbor is definitely spying on me if they weren't already..!" and validating their paranoia more than actually doing anything at all. Goofy shit.

I've got a backpack. It's got a tablet, a water bottle, some snacks, and a bunch of books that would be useless after an apocalypse. I have about 1.3 GB of porn on my phone.

I figure you can't take everything with you. Thiefs and cheats will be the only survivors in the long run.
