PS3: An error occurred during the install operation 80029564 #1

Anyone else had this issue? It keeps.. happening. Google tells me nothing. I've redownloaded the same file like 7 times, and even when this shit DOES work eventually... it'll happen to the next thing I try to download. This has been going on for months.

Your HDD failing is the most probable cause. Also try and install some disc games and delete the installed files afterwards to test if this is only related to downloads.

Is your PS3 on top of a "wine cooler"?

I'm installing Bayonetta right now. Just testing to see if anything happens.

Anyway, Bayonetta successfully installed. Maybe it's only on the downloading side of things?

This was the bane of my life for quite a while too. Always fails at 14%, which is the stage that the download is uncompressed, from which we can assume the download is corrupted. The net is full of rampant uninformed speculation about how it is faulty RAM which I think is extremely unlikely. I am 99% sure it is something to do with your internet connection or router.

I wish I could help you more, mine just seemed to resolve itself on its own.

Try unplugging your router (from power) for a few seconds. And your PS3.

Thread revival. So, I bought a new hard drive and tried it out. It worked for a few days, now the error has returned. Awesome. Everything I download gives me the error.

I tried resetting my router, disabling Media Server, etc... blah.

It's not the HDD man. It's something to do with your internet connection.

Stilll... not... FIXED! I want to install Dust 514 Beta but ughhh. I've looked all over and have found nothing. I'm hooked up wired directly to my PS3 from the modem. x_x

So..... did you ever get this fixed?
Bought Uncharted 3 today and when trying to install the update I get this error repeatedly.
Have tried restarting system and router, deleting game data, changing DNS settings, etc but I get the same thing each time :(

I downloaded a system/firmware update after I put in my Modern Warfare 3 disc in this morning, installed it and after about 2 min into my first match the PS3 shutdown on its own. When I push the power button to restart it there's a yellow light for a split second and then red light. Is this a known issue from the latest firmware?

Your PS3 is about to die. Save everything you want and need to an external device now

erase that file, download another file from PSN (f.e. a little demo), install it, download the content you wanted to install before again, install it, erase the files you don't care.
It's HDD issue but nothing to "worry" about.

The installation error...??? Or the shutdown/yellow light error?

Please say the second, please say the second, please say the second.....

Thanks, I'll try this now. Day off work tomorrow and I want some damn Uncharted time!

Your PS3 is dead unfortunately. Coincidentally this happened to mine two days ago while trying to download Pixeljunk Monsters. System turned off and wouldn't turn back on (blinking yellow light). There's a temporary fix available so that you can recover/backup your save files - it involves using a hair dryer for 15 minutes on the back vents of your PS3 (look for videos on YouTube). I've done it myself and can vouch for the fact that it works, but just realize that it may only last a few weeks. Best of luck.

Okay thanks guys. I knew about the yellow light of death but I assumed it would stay on, and mine just blinked and turned red. It IS the fat version. I will wait for a price drop and get the slim then.

Yeah, it blinks yellow for a second and then turns into a red flashing light. That's the YLOD (yellow light of death). Like I said in my previous post, if you need to recover any save files, the blow dryer method works.

I tried to install a system update and the ps3 gave me an error, not sure if it was the same one you were getting. I tried it a few more times and it kept happening. Then the ps3 started shutting off on its own after being on or around a minute.

Like others have said, back up your stuff if you can. I couldn't. I have since move on and bought a pc. The only thing I am bummed about having to miss is the last guardian. Hope it's just a fluke in your case dude but don't count on it.

I had a 40g ps3 without bc so I thought I was safe since I read these things only happened to 60g skus. Nope.

Sony should set up a Defragmenter Disk app, the recovery menu is not enough. :S

Fixed this!
Relatively simple in the end (after many failures)
I booted into the Safe / Recovery mode and did:
- Restore Default Settings
- Restore File System
- Rebuild Database

All in a row, doing nothing else between each one.
When starting the game up (first thing I did), the update downloaded and installed first time!
I'd restored settings and the file system on previous attempts so it may have just been rebuilding the database that really helped.
Now all my settings, folders, playlists and messages are gone though :(

Thanks, have backed up straight away. Sorry to hear what happened to your system. Mine is ridiculously loud and pumps out a huge amount of heat so I fear it's only a certain amount of time for me left too...

So much is missing from the functionality of this system it's not even funny. The back-up / restore process is hellish!
