Final Fight needs to make a comeback
#1
So the other day I was doing some reading about Final Fight, my first "favorite game ever" (I'll always have fond memories of playing the Final Fight arcade cabinet at the pizza parlor my Dad used to take me to as a kid), and I ran across this tidbit:
Quote:
Think about it. If you go the retail route, it could be something sorta like God Hand or Urban Reign. DD-route, maybe a 2.5D cel-shaded beat 'em up, or a 2D beat 'em up by ASW or something. And don't stop at just Cody, Guy, and Haggar. Throw in Carlos, Maki, Dean, and Lucia too. At the very least Maki, because she's awesome. But yeah. Final Fight needs to come back. I need more Final Fight in my life. Thoughts, GAF? |

At one point it sounded like Ono was interested in bringing it back. I think he said he was in charge of anything Final Fight around the time FF Double Impact came out. Also, Capcom said they were interested in making more HD remixes besides Super Street Fighter II and Super Puzzle Fighter. Nothing ever came of that though.
I would love either a Final Fight HD Remix or a new Final Fight, maybe with SFIV style graphics. |

I'd be in, totally FF was an awesome arcade game. Wasted a lot of quarters on that game. |

FINAL FIGHT SEVEN SONS
![]() ![]() ![]() This game was in BETA, when Capcom marketing and execs were still all aboard the GTA hype train. They then asked for the game to be retooled to be more urban and gritty. So it was delayed another year. Final Fight Streetwise, I feel, gets a bum rap. It has a bad camera, substandard graphics, and some poor hub design, but the game has a great script, good voice acting, and lots of great nods to the previous titles. It also fleshes out Haggar, Cody and Guy really well. And best of all, its fighting system is fun. I talked to Sven when I was invited to last year's Captivate, and I asked him how were the sales of Final Fight Double Impact, which was released on XBLA and PSN a few months prior, and he said while it didn't light the world on fire, it made them money. So that's a good sign. I think having a digital download version, a 16-bit demake in the style of Mega Man 9, 10, for XBLA, PSN, 10$, online and local co-op, etc 2 would be awesome. Final Fight 4! |

Wow, I never even knew about Seven Sons. Thanks for that! (Actually I was kinda waiting for you to post, since I know how big of a Final Fight fan you are. :lol)
And yeah, I think giving Final Fight the Mega Man 9 treatment would work great. Though I'm sure it'd probably get outsourced, ASW if we're lucky, TOSE if we aren't. Prior to Double Dragon Neon being announced, I would have said WayForward would be a good fit, but now I'm not so sure. Though of course I'll wait until I actually play Neon to make final judgement there. |

Gang violence is up in Metro City. Guy and former mayor Mike Haggar, concerned for the safety of the town, decide to investigate. Suddenly, they bump into Cody and a mysterious woman - but this can't be right, Cody is in jail! But it isn't Cody - it's Axel Stone, and the woman is Blaze Fielding, both having come to Metro City to investigate leads surrounding the remains of the notorious X-Syndicate. Turns out, it wasn't as dead as they thought it was after the notorious Raxine nuke/robot duplicate incidents from SoR3, and given the Syndicate has shown they have no qualms in starting international incidents so long as they profit, they're here to shut them down for good. Thus, both bands team up and fight against old foes from both series, as well as all-new ones, until they reach the headquarters of the Syndicate, only to find, oh no! Mr. X wasn't dead after all, and that brain in a jar was an impostor? ... ...yeah, I have an overactive (and excessively fan fiction-y) imagination. Sorry. |

The whole fucking genre needs to come back. It's perfect for today's gaming landscape.
Hack n' slash action games are popular right now and use very similar mechanics, and co-op is popular again. All someone needs to do is make a game like God of War/Devil May Cry but hand-to-hand, and then give it online co-op. |

After playing Final Fight again on Capcom Classics Collection a couple of months ago, I'd buy pretty much any game like it or Streets of Rage on day 1. |

Just think: A Double Dragon game that looks like KOF XIII, or at least a Final Fight game that looks like Street Fighter IV. Damn, just thinking about that makes me wonder why the fuck they haven't made a Final Fight game using the SFIV engine. It's almost too good a fit.

While I would like to see final fight make a comeback It's fighting system was archaic, It needs a redesign on that point.
In terms of a better fighting system, use AVP as an example. Now what would really be awesome is if we ditch these awful 3D AVP shooter games and go back to what a true AVP game should be...pure fucken awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJf82cogZew

of course
in all honesty as a fan I'd love to see it come back, even final fight my iphone gets some serious play and there are certainly better versions. One big problem that I see is that the game itself is a pretty simple formula that probably wouldn't be able to stand on it's own two legs anymore. It'd have to be changed/updgraded/etc and that runs risk of pissing off the people that are already FF fans, let alone new audiences who have no idea what FF is |

Being honest though, 7 Sons is what we should've gotten. It looked and felt like a true successor to the franchise. On the other hand Streetwise would've fared a whole lot better without the Final Fight name on it. See Devil May Cry 2. Streetwise was decent game. The problem was it didn't get there fast enough for people to care about it. And then everybody took potshots at it. I'd urge anybody who's curious about the game to give it a fair try and then shit on it if you have to.
Double Dragon Neon from WayForward will be out soon. And some of the members in this thread have expressed their opinion on the subject. I would suggest if you have a iDevice of some kind to play Double Dragon on that. Game is too good. If you liked Advance then you like that one as well. EDIT: Just found out that Double Dragon is on Android now. Link below. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...S5nZ18xNDA3Il0.

They would have to spruce up the engine. I tried playing Final Fight 3 recently, and it doesn't hold up well at all. It's excruciatingly slow!
Streets of Rage Remake set the bar way too high. Someone should just convince Sega to get Bombergames back to work on it and release it on XBL/PSN. |

I can not believe what was Sega thinking when they let those guys (from Spain) work almost 8 years on the remake without complaining about it (BomberGames actually asked Sega permission to work on it, and Sega neither denied or approved of it), and, when they released for free (as they intended since the beginning), Sega asked them to refrain from doing that, as they were promoting the shitty port of SoR2 for iOS. Another Sega boneheaded decision... |

I mentioned it in another thread but a 2D Final Fight 4 is something I've been wanting for a long time. Final Fight 3 is one of my top favorite games and the thing I love about it is the variety of moves each character has. I love beat'em ups but I get bored quickly with a lot of them. FF3 is one of the few that never gets boring as I play through it and large part of that is because of all the moves. And I love the Street Fighter style of moves, especially how each character has an "ultra combo" or whatever you want to call it.

Honestly, as much as I love Final Fight back in the Arcade, SNES, I don't think it's possible for Capcom to successfully do anything with this series to make it better. In fact, I don't trust them to. I'd rather see a Streets of Rage or Double Dragon, or, in a perfect world, Battletoads.
Final Fight: Streetwise anyone? |
