I put off getting into WvW in the BWE because I didn't think I'd like it as much as PVE and knew it'd just be a disorganized mess. I ended up playing it for the last 5 or 6 hours though and was completely blown away. It really is a blast.

It baffles me that Diablo 3 has higher system requirements than GW2. What ANet can get running on an integrated gpu is nothing short of extraordinary.

I just purchased the game a couple of days ago and downloaded the client last night. The title screen is claiming that my laptop's drivers are out of date and could cause problems, but according to Nvidia my current drivers (Verde 296.10) are the most recent drivers for a 460M. Has anyone else had issues like this?

You'd be impressed if you saw how much bug fixing and optimization gets done in the last 2-3 months with most other releases.

They've said many months ago, when they first started talking about beta info, that they didn't want to spoil the content and thus would have only a certain amount playable. They also said that they wanted the beta to be very close to the final product to give a good impression and that the betas will be much closer to release than the GW1 beta, which ran for 6 months i beleive. The press have played the sylvari and asura starting areas and the results were all positive. Arenanet have a huge team that have been bug testing the game since the end of december and ofcourse they have been bug testing throughout development. Sure, the game will release with bugs but that is inevitable and always will be no matter how long they stay in development. They have confirmed that it is feature complete, meaning all areas have everything in place.

I know that you're used to how other MMOs are tested, but like everything else ANet doesn't use conventional development or testing methods. When they let the masses in for the first time, they wanted it to blow people away and they got that reaction from nearly everyone. Yes, there's bugs as to be expected, but there's really not that many and more importantly they've addressed all the major ones on the forums saying they're either fixed or on their way to being fixed. Balancing will be a big part of development in-between BWE1 & BWE2 to get XP/spawns/skill values/etc in line due to the huge amount of feedback and data they received which is more number tweaking than anything. Then they also said they want to start working on performance for BWE2 and beyond and seeing as optimization is one of the last things done in programming, we're very likely closing in on a July launch. Then the third big thing they want to work on is teaching new players how the game works. |

I was in Queensdale, taking the road out of the trading post into Altar Brook Vale. The sun was shining, big puffy clouds hung in the sky, and I came up over the hill near the waypoint. And as the great green expanse of the vale was laid out before me, this track kicked in and it felt like a whole adventure was ready to begin. It was magical.
Untested by the public ≠ untested. I'm sure you're used to the way other MMOs are 'tested', with their Betas nothing more than free previews, but GW2 actually tests the shit out of their stuff before anyone ever gets a chance to look at it. Imagine if you played a game and they hadn't posted screenshots and videos of all the content before launch, as is certainly the case with WoW. Kinda takes the fun out of slaying the epic last boss of the expansion if the entire fight has been datamined and documented, doesn't it? (This, of course, assumes that raiding in WoW can be considered 'fun' in the first place). Edit: Bah, Jira's answer is better (not to mention less antagonistic). |

I wonder if they just got the ball rolling on too much banking on June... or if they're going to basically be backed into a corner by some party and release whatever they have. I can definitely say that the BWE we played was not ready for primetime, but the majority of the problems were balance tweaks and performance issues, not straight-up missing and absolutely broken content. The "broken" stuff I ran into was stuff mostly relating to scaling, and I can imagine they must have a system in place to adjust that with minimal effort. Maybe that's stuff that they can fix fairly quickly? Keep us posted.

Aaaand I just finished my 30/50 HoM in Guild Wars 1 - http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=m...AAAQEEIQAAAAAA.
I don't even know what to do with myself now. I hated GW1 but by the time I realized exactly how much I disliked playing it, I had already sunk in too much time to just quit. I'm going to be crushed when they announce the stats of the items and they get replaced by level 5. |

They DO need to fix the Mesmer before release though. The class mechanic just doesn't work properly or reliably and you can't have an entire class mechanic be useless in WvWvW.
bah I still need to work on my Hall of Monuments. Like 22/50 right now. |

I'm still at 8. :( I really need to get on it, but when I log in I feel so confused as to what I need to do. I haven't played it in so long. I need to go around trying to get a good 7 hero build, plus getting used to how to play it again. Plus I think I have maybe 60 platinum, which I don't think is enough to finish off whatever last few points I might need towards the end.
If enemies had to make a hard choice between letting them live and doing more damage, plus giving the Mesmer more control over when they shatter them or getting a harmful condition or two applied to them when they killed the clone it'd make Mesmer closer to what it should be in PvP, IMO. Maybe have killed clones cause confusion or something. EDIT: Looking through the traits apparently there are already two in the game that do just what I was suggesting. Debilitating Dissipation - Clones apply a random condition to nearby foes when they are killed. Crippling Dissipation - Clones cripple nearby foes when they are killed. I still feel like it should be a base feature of all clones, but it's nice to see it's at least an option.

That might explain why when I was playing with Butzopower he was having a lot more trouble with the game in general than I was, as he was playing Mesmer. :P

Anyways, as for releasing buggy and such? Well...part of me believes it would honestly not be that big of a deal. MMO launches are buggy anyways and it IS free to play. So, it's not like there is a monthly fee you can threaten them with. They get it fixed, you still pay nothing monthly and life goes on. My view anyways. |

GW2 is not really that technically impressive, what they do so well is mainly because of great art design that makes up for alot.

I had a whole Chaotic Energy idea I posted on the official forums as a fix to the issues. All those BWE1 posts are gone right now though. Roughly: Chaotic Energy would be a new class mechanic system not too far removed from the current one. Chaotic Energy - Every time you create an illusion, you gain one charge of chaotic energy. Chaotic Energy does not dissipate when your illusions are destroyed.
New Trait - Manipulative Power : Your Manipulation skills grant a charge of Chaotic Energy. New Trait - Nightmares : Your Phantasms now last for 60 seconds but no longer grant a charge of Chaotic Energy. New Trait - Frustration - The Confusion applied by your illusions being destroyed by a foe now applies to all foes within the area. |

Quote GWOnline: The demos during the year 2011 unraveled more and more starter areas for the different races in Guild Wars 2. Can we expect to see asura and sylvari starter areas on upcoming demos before the final release of Guild Wars 2. Could you share some favorite moment or experience from those starter areas? Eric: We will definitely be expanding what we show as we progress through our beta events but we do want to keep some content back since we don’t want to spoil too much. As far as favorite things about the starter areas go, I think the boss in the asura tutorial is just amazing. Our artists and animators really outdid themselves with that one! You can just add them to the launcher which is nice though. It is kind of funny though, with PC games the boxes they came in were anything but uniform. |

Got the soundtrack playing constantly in the background, so good.
Every time you've ended a post with that, I always read it in a Leonidas voice. I had photoshop open from my little Colin Love picture earlier, so... yeah.
Here's the thing though; it's all digital, so the most you have 'on display' is just a list of games. I guess some people want a complete set in one place, and I can get that, but people flipping out and boycotting games because they aren't on steam seems rather silly. |

Here are two screenshots I took during the BWE.
Quote:
Lion's Arch, much like every location in the game [so far], is very impressive, but I only browsed through it for a brief duration near the end of the BWE. I'll have to check it out a bit more on the 14th. Hoelbrak, so far, is my favorite location in the game. I guess that's unsurprising since the Norn regions in Eye of the North are my favorites in GW1. |

updated launcher (now has a message about the stress test when you open it) and another update after that which was around 25-30mb or so. i know they are already on record saying that the stress test will be the same build, but i hope there's a few new changes for us to enjoy :)

The more likely scenario is that the changes going in are either networking fixes that they want to test out, or additional processes to monitor network performance. |

Feasiy I could order all my PC parts now and build it tomorrow for the stress test. Questioning the value though: got to build the PC, install Windows and download the client. And I won't finish work until 5/6, and then I need to go for a run.
