Was just messing around/experimenting. Made it in about a minute. :P
Few people said they liked it. Anyways I can see MS new tag line being "The power of eight" or something similar to describe all of their products (that is if the new Xbox will have the number 8 in it). |

The seemingly obvious issue with naming a console after the latest iteration of OS is that MS updates their OS far more regularly then their consoles.
Windows 7 will have been our for 3 years when it gets superseded by Windows 8 this year. And Windows Phone 7 will only have been out for 2 years. If MS plan for the next Xbox to live as long as the 360, there could be a couple of OS versions beyond 8 in that timeframe. |

I searched my way through the new Windows 8 enterprise 90-day demo and installed the smartglass app. (it's nice btw)
From looking through the javascript files I noticed the string "X8" occuring very often. Examples:

I think Apple-branding a la "The New Xbox" might be more likely, and make it resistant to potential failure of Windows 8 integration. |

The whole 360 thing basically threw the number scheme out for MS, either way it's going to look somewhat strange going back numbers and no better going forward. If they're not using an actual name for the console outside of a number, then putting it back to 8 will probably help them long term.
I don't mind the idea of it being called Xbox 8 though and it makes sense to bring their product range in line with each other if they're talking about everything being better integrated. |

They'll inevitably get sued if they tried to name it Loop. Some blowhard company with a patent on loop will sue. It's a disgusting time we live in right now.
8 makes sense from a uniformity standpoint considering how they're packaging everything to be the same, especially if Sinofsky got his grubby hands on naming it. |

I've always figured Xbox 8 is the most likely name. It fits all MS criteria. It wont be the 720 because that connotes 720p, a old standard compared to 1080p. It wont be Xbox 3 because that's lesser than PS4. Etc. It could still be something off the wall, but out of projected names XB8 is the most likely imo. Sooner or later they can just call it "Xbox" ala Apple. I could even imagine, say they name it Xbox 8, Win 8 turns into a hated OS that makes Vista look like a walk in the park (as I think will happen). Then you have a stigma on the Xb8. So they might just start calling it "Xbox". |

They'll take the approach they did with the winmo7 Started 7, they updated to 7.5, now it's at 7.6 and in the fall it'll be updated to 8 Dashboard updates can be the front for the name change, however, that's years and years in the future. |

Just call it Xbox. Let the OS hold the name. |

Remember the leaked 720 document? The timeline had something like "2016- enjoy next generation gaming without the need to upgrade. Never buy another piece of hardware!" Or something like that. I don't know if they're banking on cloud streaming ala onlive or if they're even still going with that idea but if it's still in the cards I'd imagine they would be able to change the name digitally with the cloud "upgrade". I think I heard about cloud distributed processing but that might have been a fever dream. Is that a thing? Sorry, I just woke up.
