This is the first Kingdom Hearts game I've played in years (since the second one). Is there a detailed plot synopsis explaining what happened in the other games since this one takes place after all of those?

Since Dream Drop Distance is the first 'proper' Kingdom Hearts game to be released on a Nintendo system, it's clear many Nintendo fans interested in it may never have played any of the other main titles in the series, since they were all released on PlayStation 2. Thankfully, it features plenty of ways to compensate for this and help players catch up with the storyline, ways that are so wonderfully designed that even long-time fans of the Kingdom Hearts games will still want to experience them. Take the game's opening movie, an epic CGI music video that tells the entire story of Kingdom Hearts so far with brand new 3D reimaginings of key moments in the series. Unlike most video game openings, we can see a lot of people gladly opting to watch this in its entirety more than once. More prominent throughout the story though are memories, which are unlocked at various points in the game. If something happens that refers back to a previous event in the Kingdom Hearts series, you'll be told you've unlocked a memory and be asked if you want to see it. Choose Yes and you'll be treated to a brand new cut-scene re-telling an event from the previous games. It's a fantastic way of filling newcomers in on the details and while it's easy for fans of the series to choose No if they already know the story, the new cut-scenes are so beautifully made that we're sure they'll sit through them all anyway. This was the general impression we got while playing through the game, in fact. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is cleverly balancing itself at all times to ensure it appeals to long-time Kingdom Hearts fans, as well as those new to the series.

I would imagine they would save that for KH3. Then we will have 3 songs to cycle through when it comes to spin offs.

At this point, I think the Utada songs are pretty ingrained into the series. It would feel weird to have a theme song for one of the games sung by someone else.

Maybe they could try to get the vocalist (Her name escapes me) who did the vocals for the TWEWY tracks to do an original song.

(Most) of the game's a bit less heavy handed with talk of DARKNESS, so yeah, there's definitely some improvement.

It looks like Axle's become Lea again (hence the lack of markings under his eyes). I wonder what effect that will have on the ploy (aside from turning him into a good guy).

TWEWY characters look and sound great. I hope their inclusion in this game is part of a ploy to build hype for the sequel!

Yay, the return of Master Xehanort means more Leonard Nimoy! Come to think of it, this game is going to have an all-star cast of both characters and voice acting. Let's hope the up the ante even further for KH3!

does the game felt like filler? not to excited about the premise of it's all a dream or whatever, but there are new disney world etc so at least that's better than chain of memories/ or that ds game.

The Utada song, I like the instrumental, not as good as the song in BBS to be honest.
