I don't know if a sequel will work out so well for this. The word of mouth must've really taken a dip after people starting playing it. Although, If they were to give the game a better developer and refine the gameplay significantly, I'd be willing to give the game another shot.

With that said, I think the western studio partnerships haven't been too bad. Blue Castle did great with DR2, and the Bionic Commando games were pretty cool. I think DmC will be the big decider among things. I'm expecting the game to be quite good, but we'll have to see how it'll fair in the sales.

Bionic Commando and Dark Void proved the opposite.
And they expect Devil May Cry to decrease as franchise with the Ninja Theory episodes.

Operation Raccoon City showed that Resident Evil is still a strong IP on home consoles.

Resident Evil is a popular franchise.

Slant Six is a horrible developer.

The vast majority of people purchasing Resident Evil have absolutely no idea who is responsible for the development of the game and buy on the Resident Evil brand alone...which they might not do anymore because the game is horrible.

That's a recipe for success? Seriously Capcom?

It proves that actual quality is not necessary when you attach a strong IP to your product. That trick may not work twice, though.

After charting at #2 on March NPD and selling 586k copies, ORC is absent from the Top 10 on the April NPD, which #1 spot has sold 190k copies.

I know. My proposal is to send a virus to all consoles that causes the controller to generate a small electric shock every time someone presses a button while playing a multiplayer shooter.

The sales itself aren't bad, but the game itself is dat bad.
So, they're hiring more western devs for their future games...
If they want to take it serious, hire atleast a better developer.

Seriously. The ONLY good western outsourced original Capcom game this gen was Dead Rising 2. All we needed was Revelations, and maybe some sort of Outbreak style RE title digital release with a similar control scheme to modern RE titles on 360/PS3.

Bionic Commando Rearmed and Dark Void Zero were also good.

And IMO the other Bionic Commando game wasn't that bad either.

I don't think outsourcing to western devs is a bad idea, the quality will obviously vary per game/deveoper though.

Did you see the OT?

Many, many people were like "fuck it, I'll just go in with low expectations, since the game sounds like decent fun in multiplayer and I want some Resident Evil fan service."

Some of them ended up getting burned, but some of them also enjoyed the experience in some ways. Personally, I wish they all would've chosen to skip the game; I think supporting titles like Operation: Raccoon City sends the wrong message. We shouldn't want games like this; we have Revelations and we're getting RE6. Those should be enough.

The main RE games are still the best RE games and there's a reason for that. I agree that we really shouldn't give Capcom more reasons to develop spinoff titles, especially those that are made by really crappy developers. I'm not against all spinoffs necessarily, but if they have to exist it'd be nice if they weren't mishandled.

So when I was in this bagel shop the other day, I was wearing a Rayman shirt (it was early, was hungover, yadda yadda). The girl behind the counter goes, "is that a gaming shirt? Man, I REALLY need to pick up that new Resident Evil game" - So, I assumed since she recognized my shirt, and randomly decided to talk about games, and was a girl who seemed excited about RE - thought this was about Revelations. When I briefly talked about how it was the best RE-experience in awhile and looked great in 3D, she was all like - "wait, what are you talking about? I want the shooter game where you hunt zombies with guns I saw on TV."

I smiled, took my change, and left.
