My class has us making blogs. Not having one, I decide it's about time.

Here's a header for the blog, just about done with the overall look of it.

you may have seen this posted already, but I'm loving the blog www.ctrlpaint.com

Check it out. There's about 100 or so free videos on his blog, which are all very good. I've been going through them and picking up a ton of little tips.

here's one that is sort of up your alley:

I just got myself a tablet only to find out that it doesn't come with a pen. It works with fingers but not my DS stylus.

"Bamboo Touch"

I thought I should just order one of their pens but a single one costs at least $30 on eBay (almost as much as I paid for the tablet). Does anyone know if a iPhone/iPad touch pen will work too? This one on eBay for example only costs about $1:

A few randoms I've done over the last week or so:

I'm late to the party with this digital painting lark but so far it's been great. I've never been much cop as a traditional painter, and I'm pretty hopeless with acrylics, oils and watercolours or whatever. The problem was I'd make a mistake, get frustrated and never finish anything. The fact it's so easy to action a repair job digitally has been hugely liberating. :)

I've been wanting to do a DragonBall drawing for a while and I had some spare time recently. Here's a tribute to one of the things that got me interested in drawing when I was younger.

Finally got a semi proper setup downstairs, figured I'd post a few of my sketches:

Tried an overlay for color with this one. Going to keep fooling around with this process so I can get more comfortable experimenting with values.

Need to get better. Kinda ironic that the moment I start drawing again is the moment I start a full time job. Still going to try to get a piece out a week though.

I really want to draw, but I feel uninspired, and feeling like I don't like anything I do. Does anyone else feel like this? Doesn't help that I get from work and I'm too tired or want to actively play some games/read ._. Oh well, I'm sure it's just a bad batch!

Not liking what you do is part of the learning process. What's important is to keep on drawing everyday if you can, but then review your drawings and point out what you feel needs improving and do that. Putting stuff up for peer review is an integral part of learning too.

As for inspiration just look at art/design blogs or art aggregation sites. Plenty of stuff out there to get inspired by. Maybe buy an artbook or two of a style you really like.

I imagine some of you have had your work sold through there and in turn wwas curious if any of you have purchased an iPhone case through them. It looks like the actual manufacturer is Case-Mate and society6 just provides the artwork component.

Hey guys, Im not sure if this is the place to post this but I'm trying to create a wordpress.org website to sell some of my art prints. Anyone know the best way to tackle this? I have little to no knowledge of coding so I'm going to have to go the route of buy theme>install plugin>follow tutorial....but I can't seem to get anything to work correctly.

I think the main thing is learning how to put a simple and secure shopping cart that's holding me back. It seems pretty insurmountable right now.

Another soccer painting! The girl on the left is made up, but on the right is my childhood friend, Pablo Mahfoud. Growing up he was the goalie, but he was a complete player as well so definitely one of the better guys in the group. He can also rock the pink on occasion.

There’s a high-res version of this piece available here. I like how some of the details came out.

As an aside, I was a complete bench player for most of my soccer career growing up except when I played in Mexico. For some reason I did pretty well there. One of the first times I was subbed in I remember running to play some defense, somebody on the other team made a long pass so I jumped in midair to intercept him and thought it would be a great idea for kick his leg in midair. Got yellow carded, got subbed right the hell out. I’m sure being a 4th grader doing that to a 3rd grader looked mighty silly, but the memory in my head looks pretty epic.

I'm beginning to use a tablet to start drawing and painting in Photoshop and was wondering if anyone had any useful tips. To make things more interesting the tablet I'm using is an older model and as far as I know pen pressure is nonexistent.

I've already been working with it for a few solid hours, and well... this is what I came up with.

Of course, I didn't stumble upon this of my own merit. I perused a tutorial by Patrick Brown because I remember his steps being pretty easy to remember. So... tips? criticisms? feedback?

Oh no worries, thats what I did. I'm definitely crazy, but not dumb ;)

I was gonna show you the painted file, but I think its at work. Funny thing is that on the Illustrator version I actually fixed and improved a lot of things that bothered me about the first pass. Still a ridiculous amount of work though, retracing it took 3 times longer than painting the damn thing.

i bet. looking at the perspective, im getting some ideas on remaking that using the 3d tools on illustrator, but at the same time that tool is also a pain to work with.

how is using a tablet on illustrator? ive never tried it. i find myself far more comfortable using the mouse and combining smaller shapes into larger ones.

its funny, ive always ignored basic drawing and painting principles my entire life but ever since i took up illustrator, im always using multiple shapes to get to my final product, and always looking for the quickest and easiest way to get such shapes. before, id just draw everything from my head freehand.

I dont use a tablet on Illustrator, for that I need to switch to the mouse. Some people do use a tablet though, so it depends on how it works for you.
