The thing about this movie...
Apes not being able to talk has nothing to do with their intelligence. You could have an ape 10x smarter than a human and it still wouldn't be able to talk. Communicate, sure. Writing and all that. But talk? Nope, never. |

I recently saw the film myself and posted about it in the recent movies thread. I didn't know about the stuff after the credits with the virus, which was interesting and goes a long way to explaining what will inevitably happen. I'm glad they avoided the pitfalls of this specific small group completely taking over the whole planet, like some of the trailers lead me to believe. Serisk, whom I'm not really a fan of otherwise, did an excellent job. His role as Caesar was just awesome. Really glad to see a successful reboot, both financially and critically, of this series. And I say that as someone that liked Tim Burton's remake. |

The 2001 remake is the worst major release movie I have ever seen. I -really- liked Rise. I was actually thinking about that the other day. I figure "gene therapy" is the new catch all Hollywood way to explain the rapid development of muscles and vocal chords and everything else needed for a primate to speak like a human. I'll accept that.

I was pretty shocked when reviews and impressions started coming in, and saying the movie was actually really good.
Pretty much loved it. The movie has a lot of heart to it, which is what makes it so good. Watched it again recently with my younger brother and sister, and they loved it too. |

The Tim Burton film bears the distinction of being the only DVD I have ever gotten rid of from my collection.
'Rise', however, was good fun. I'll probably watch it again sometime soon. |

Just saw this movie on demand a few days ago as well, was pleasantly surprised with it. I don't know why but from all trailers and promo I just wasn't interested in watching it at all. But my friend convinced me to see it the other day and I'm glad I took his advice. Good good stuff!
I hope the sequel has this in it :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMnG3gOqigE |

Great big meh. It was fast and loud like a trailer, all the way through, and indulged in all of Hollywood's worst misguided-science tendencies. It was a B movie that tried to be taken seriously.
I have a really hard time accepting CG actors. Their animation always looks just a bit too smooth and full of flourishes. Caesar inhabited this weird, stylized, overly-fluid man-chimp space that made him look like he should have been in a fully-CG movie (which, to be honest, Rise is at times). I would rather have seen Tim Roth in a rubber suit. But funnily enough, my favorite character in the movie was the orangutan, because he was the only character played with any subtlety or reserve. |

My favorite part was Freida Pinto's character. She literally has maybe 20 minutes of screen time but only a dozen lines. She does absolutely nothing, I think they have her distract some cops so the big heroic man can save the day at one point simply to justify her even being in the movie. I know the studio probably demanded they put a female character in there, but I've never seen a film so clearly not give a shit about a character that's on screen that much.

That was absolutely horrible. Such an obvious "who gives a shit" character. I don't even know if they were married or remember her name or how she felt about anything.
Aside from that it was a decent movie. Ill probably watch the sequel. |

I also think there will a very small minority who aren't affected by the virus at all, they will be the ones to initiate a nuke attack as some last ditch attempt to destroy the planet rather than it fall into the hands of the apes. That leads into the original trilogy quite comfortably. |

I don't think the movie disputed this at all. When James Franco's character is talking to Ceaser it's implied that Ceaser can understand him perfectly, but is simply forced to use sign language.

Literally just finished watching this. I don't get the appreciation for it. I'm mean, I get it, but... I don't get it.
Could have sworn the CG in King Kong was light years beyond this. Ceasar, while impressive in his own right, didn't mesh with his surroundings at all, and almost always looked CG outside dimly lit scenes. I don't buy Franco as a cutting biochemist. The female lead is one of the most beautiful... things... I've ever seen, but utterly useless. The disposal of humans in the battle scenes was hokey - I'm going to throw you to the ground and pound on your chest: you will die from this. Overall, the plot accelerates too fast, and never really explores any of the minutia that could make a story like this compelling. That might be because I just finished watching the Rings trilogy tho'. |
