ok, so I met my first zombies. Instead of shooting I started throwing flares at them. lol & wtf.

Pressing F will cycle through your gun, flares, chemlights, etc. Left click will throw them (except when it won't, at which point you will be confused and have to figure out stuff like maybe needing to stand up to throw chemlights).

The funniest part about the whole damned thing is that we all decided to stay out of the chopper as it was leaving the hanger so that we would all stay alive in case something happened as Metal was maneuvering it free. Of course, everyone except Metal (who was piloting the thing) and Krappa ended up getting their heads cut off by the rotor blades or getting caught in the explosion. So, the two people we expected to die ended up outliving us all. Man, that was hilarious.

Had I stuck around I probably would Have ended up dead. I'll now be spawning in a small patch of trees there. Maybe we can all secure one again? Where was the fuel pump anyway?!

So I downloaded and installed both ARMA 2 and Operation Arrowhead from Amazon. What should I do next to successfully install DayZ? I see there's a new updater as well as that older installation guide pic. Which do I go with?

Did you copy over the Chernarus content from ArmA 2 to OA? I think you have to do that.

Don't overwrite. (Overwriting makes it still playable, but it breaks the UI for bags, settings and other stuff)

You can only enter about 10% of all houses in the game, less maybe. Most enterable structures are in the big cities. If a door can be opened, you see an appropriate icon. Doors are open by default, but some players close them for some reason when leaving. You can recognize enterable normal houses by the windows, they're see-through.

Only certain building can open.

The ones that CAN will show a Green arrow icon on the screen as you approach the door.

Naming convention? Just skip instead of overwriting. Copy the files over and skip duplicates.

First its receiving data with a slowly filling bar, then its creating a character, then it loads something and then Im stuck at receiving data ... :(

Alt-Tab to GAF, read a couple of threads, make fun of weird stuff. It takes a while. Especially the first time.

My adventures in this game so far are probably mundane by gaf standards, but damn if it wasn't a lot of fun.

I started on the beach at night, threw some flares to see where I was going, and stumbled up a hill/mountain and accidentally ate all my food and drank my water before logging off.

This morning I found a farmhouse containing a winchester. After that I stumbled back into the forest trying to find water. I found a pond but couldn't figure out how to refill my canteen even while wading through the water. Then I got disconnected from the laggy server I was on.

So I'm having spawning issues, game seems to be loading my character with critical blood loss, sprained ankle and an empty stomach every time from the same point.

I've tried deleting my character, switching servers and stuff. doesn't seem to help.

Played a bit - night time/heavy rain. Accidentally let off two flares and ran away shit scared heh!! Found 3 corpses fumbling around on the shore line. The flies gave it away. Anyway, thanks again as I was getting a bit put off about the install saga.

Sometimes puking things up is finicky, takes a little moving around it for the option to pick up to show. As far as the Alice pack hit 'g' to go to gear, highlite the Alice pack and hit 'open bag' to fill it, you click the arrow pointing to the left of your other gear and you'll see the capacity of the Alice pack drop fro 20/20 to 19/20 etc til it's filled.

Haha wow they want to update to 1.5.8 today and were going to do it during the lull period earlier in the day, except the lull period never happened and the games been at a near constant like 6500 players all day. So if they try now the servers will likely get obliterated when all 6500 people try and log back in at the same time.

If you swim, you can lose your backpack. It's not a bug, though. It's a feature from ARMA II. I'm not sure I can come to terms with the fact that a 50-pound pack will sink someone that can literally run forever.

Timing of Patch 1.5.8 I'm still working on it. Unfortunately, the lull in peak time never happened. And I had forecast that the usual lull would be started now. That isn't happening. So we will try and figure out a way to roll out the patch but it is complicated. There are so many people playing (over 6500) that if we auto-update the servers the reconnect load caused by everyone coming back on within the same period could, well, crash everything. We don't know if it is possible to handle such load, and I don't really want to try. So we're coming up with another plan. But it will be within the next six hours assuming that testing has gone okay.

New update will be here soon! If you fuckers stop playing for 2 mins.

And also for everyone dealing with the "waiting for server response" shit all the time:

RE: Major server-side upgrade, performance should increase To provide an explanation: If the central server connection app lost connection with the database, it was fucked. And remained so until someone restarted the server connection app. Nearly all people stuck at "waiting for server response" were victims of this error. It also meant nobodies progress would be saved. Generally connection wasn't lost, but if the central server got really busy it would drop some connections. The new system now re-establishes connection with the DB and error checks itself. Other fixes included too, but this will have a major impact on "waiting for server response". If you make it to "Requesting data from server" chances are you are probably going to make it into game.

I have been belly down on the same sniper perch location for the past 3 days.

I have killed 9 survivors this way then quickly dashed down to take their delicious beans.
The equipment the survivors have has kept me full and content they have also provided me with ammo.

I just hate running down 650 meters to their corpses.
