I do plan to say in the OP of each thread where the film is available, and will say if it is on hulu or netflix. I know that the first film isn't available via streaming, but I will keep streaming in mind when I am selecting future films.

How do we want to start this? Do we stick with English movie only or foreign movie that isn't English (like Japanese, French, Chinese, etc)? Also, what about movie that is animated but more into mature area? Do we let them in also? We do need to set some kind of rules of what movie we should discuss.
To pauljeremiah Can you give me a very brief synopsis of this movie to get me interest in? |

I was thinking of doing something like that, like a month of Noire, or Classic gangster films, Hong Kong Action films etc.

Why don't the OP have some kind of system where here, he will list 5 movies that he want us to choose which one of them should be shown for next week. From here we can put from highest to lowest which one should be shown for next week. Once the movie is agree on within a certain amount of days, the top movie will be shown for next week while the other 4 will put back in this big list of movies the OP is interested.

the structure is simple, I pick a film on Sunday, I make an OT for it, I include links on where to get the film (both physical and streaming), you watch, then post your thoughts in the OT, the following Sunday I pick another film. |

The last film club died quickly because the choosen films were ones that most people already knew. To avoid that happening again i think it would be nice if there was an alternative to choose from each week. A film that is similarely themed but more obscure. I think it would keep more people interested to participate especialy the ones who have already seen a lot of films.

I know I'm on the opposite spectrum of this list as I know I wouldn't enjoy a good chunk of those movies listed, but a good list needs to have a balance between my extreme and their extreme.

For example this weeks movie is Touch of Evil. The alternative movie could be either Border Incident or The Hitch-Hiker which both are also noirs that play near or beyond the Mexican border. |

I'm in, but think that there definitely should be a healthy mix: old and new, drama and comedy, live action and animation, etc. Hell, it'd even be nice to see the occasional well done action film pop up. Not saying this is what you have planned, but if this ends up basically being just black & white films from the AFI's top 100 I could see myself getting bored pretty quickly.

Interesting idea.
It seems to me like there should be a date when people talk about the flick though. Like, since it is week one, say "At the end of this many days, we'll discuss it." It looks like people are just saying that they will comment on it in a couple days or whenever, but if people are just posting whenever, then it gets hard for random people to check in on the thread. Unless everyone's posts are nothing but spoilers for 50-year-old movies. Just an idea. Wanted to post in here instead of shitting up the new thread. |

I think you would be surprised how many of the old and foreign movies are actualy pretty damn good. The thing with such a list is that it's not a popularity contest for contemporary movies but an overview of the best movies of all time. New movies need some time to become classics before they can climb the list. And honestly there arn't that many additional movies from the last 20 years that i would put on that list if i had a vote. Maybe The Lives of Others, Enter the Void and A Prophet. |

As for Touch of Evil, the thing I love the most about it is the music and moving through the streets at night from one location to the next. Just gives it such a great atmosphere and makes the town feel like an actual continuous whole entity.

If it were legal I'd just stream all of these movies on Justin.tv or something since I'll probably have most of them...But I don't think it would be.

The only Chinese or Hong Kong films that i can enjoy somewhat are comedies like Shaolin Soccer or maybe some Jackie Chan stuff but of course these don't have the artistical merrits to make it onto such a list. |
