I love the book, this movie adaption looks interesting, I always loved the directors style, (loved Moulin Rouge).
Some of it looks interesting some scenes make me excited (shirts and the brief shot in the garage). Other parts of it not so much. Man, December is going to be freakin packed. The hobbit, Les miserables, cloud atlas, this. I'll get to it, but my December is already planned. |

Holy shit, I forgot about Lincoln. I think I'm more excited for that over les miserables (and I am fucking hyped on that). I wondered, assumed it had another year of post. |

I got about 20 seconds into the trailer before closing it. Not because I didn't like it, but because I could already tell I will have to see it. I haven't been let down by a Leo Dicaprio movie yet, and I don't care if this is the first time, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
I agree with those saying there's probably no reason for this to be in 3D. But...hell, I'll be seeing it that way since the option is there. |

I like Romeo and Juliet.
I once had to transcribe an interview with Luhrman from when Moulin Rouge had just released and the guy has his head so far up his own goddamn ass I can't help but be turned off by him. I will still be there for this film day one, but I really do dislike Baz himself. |

As much as I love Apocalypse Now (which, by the way, perfectly adapted the themes of civilization and colonialism in a way that Conrad himself never could have foreseen), I think that I would welcome a "proper" adaptation of HoD that actually stuck to the original African setting. However, I did a quick search on this film adaptation, and it isn't at all what I expected. The concept of the film (as well as the "talent" behind it) sounds incredibly disappointing.
Anyway, I would guess that The Great Gatsby 3D is more appealing to someone like myself who hasn't actually read the book since high school. I don't recall enough of the book to judge whether this is at all a faithful adaptation of Fitzgerald's themes. |

As someone who does not like Luhrmann and has been pretty pessimistic from the beginning about the whole thing, I didn't hate that trailer.
It's weird, seeing such a low-key story portrayed with such an explosive stylization, but it at least seems interesting. |

The book has some great ideas and characterization, but it's a bit of a chore to actually read. I actually think Baz's version might go a long way towards making it palatable. And hell, I love a good spectacle.
Also, it's been awhile since I've read it, but going so over-the-top almost seems appropriate. If I recall correctly, one of the book's themes was very much the juxtaposition between the parties and excess and Gatsby's sort of inner darkness/loneliness, wasn't it? |
