I don't know if Alan Scott is major or Iconic. I always liked him as Green Lantern, I remember I had the huge hardcover DC recollection vol . 1

Hearing this after all this time still bothers me. Mainly because it just seems like super reaching.

Like I've said before, it seems to me that shazam seems like the only real option. He's a character that's had no sexual interaction in the past due to being an avatar placed on a child. Since he is an adult now, they can do with him whatever they want.

Iconic is the only clue. Wait..they better not make Icon gay. Nah, DC would never refer to him as iconic, anyway...

So that's the clue, it's someone who's been around a while. Probably been on either the JSA or the JLA, someone who hasn't been mothballed into obscurity.

They haven't brought Ray Palmer back yet have they? Starman was bi at some point if I recall correctly...

Why would they be disturbed? That was hilarious, especially knowing that they all know how uptight Alan is.

Ehh don't like.

Him being gay is kinda weird, and probably the most random character to make gay, but I can deal with that pretty easy.

Him being a young man sucks though. I like my Alan Scott as a grumpy old grampa with two creepy adult children. He was an awesome team dad for JSA.

I can agree on the fanboy thing. For me when Cassandra was Batgirl I wanted Barbara back then when Steph took over I wanted Cass back.
and similar to how I felt about Huntress.

Oh, well, there's no Obsidian in the DC Universe anymore. So we lost a gay character. That's a shame. As for why not just create a new gay character, I just wanted to do this. I mean, it's one thing if you're creating a new team with new characters, but that isn't what the Justice Society is. It's me rebooting existing characters.
Well...okeedoke. He just "felt like it". Go on. Reboot. For not apparent reason other than you just felt like it, and Didio ididn't say no.

When you come to a deadend with a character. You don't just give him to some new guy and reboot. They ran out of ideas for him after breaking his neck, and blah. It's just annoying. But that's DC lately.

He's younger looking, but if he has the starheart, he can stay young looking forever, so that's of no consequence.

I dunno about that. She was written, sure. Since most female characters tend to be background or part of an ensemble, that's definitely a difference. But saying she was one of the best written, I just dunno. She went from Tim's plucky girlfriend, to the heir to the Batgirl mantle, with every growing pains story line they could think up, facing her off against jobber type enemies, that whole weird thing with the older detective, and a very cliched 'dealing with your past and accepting who you are' theme. It's like it took them as many years to learn HOW to write Stephanie Brown as it did for her to finally become a believable Batgirl. And just when they finally got there they ended her book for Final Crisis, Darkest Night, and New 52 Reboot.

I pretty much only read her Batgirl series, as well as her excellent appearances in the Cass Batgirl series. All of that was brilliant.

I cannot fathom not loving Brian Q Miller's run. That run made me go back and buy the entire Cass run. So I owe her doubly, because I worship Cass now.

Not in the literal sense of non-comic-reader awareness, no. But he's as "major" and "iconic" as one could have hoped for the character to be, considering that DC realistically wasn't going to introduce a gay version of a character who could be licensed individually (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hal Jordan, Barry Allen) or for whom a sexuality change would generate too much fan backlash and/or require too many changes to what little pre-New 52 continuity has been retained (Tim Drake, Superboy, Kyle Rayner).

Considering who the initial comment was made to (comic buyers at a comic convention), he'll yes Alan Scott is iconic. He's one of a handful of original superheroes from which all others have been modeled after.

But I already see some of the gay blogs complaining that it's not enough. Typical really. Don't celebrate, pick it apart. It's not like DC has been supporting LGBT charas for years and years now.

Probably. As far as 90% of people are concerned gender and sex are synonyms. On the other hand, companies love attention whoring, so if they thought they could exploit it, then maybe...
