I enjoyed Plague Inc. quite a lot. I ended up playing until almost 6 in the morning (so around three hours.) My strategy was to keep the plague benign until I had infected pretty much the whole planet. I noticed the researchers weren't particularly interested in researching the disease until it was very, very widespread. Then I dumped my dna into making it deadly. As everyone had it already, it was only a matter of time until doomsday. Countries were decending into anarchy, in which no research occurs. It was glorious.

Then it crashed. This was probably due to not rebooting before I started so I'm not ready to lay the blame on the game yet. When I went back into the game, there was no save and I had to start all over. The only option to save, is save & quit. In lieu of periodic auto-save, which really should be mandatory for a game like this, they could at least give the option of saving without quitting to the title.

The game has a really good flow.

I played it on the iPad and took full advantage of retina pad. The news bar gets in the way, though I expect that will be remedied when a universal version is out. Another thing that annoys me are the pop-ups. They almost always occur as I'm about to click a dna and when I exit out of them, my dna that I was about to click disappears. This is most annoying late in the game when dna was coming in very, very slowly and it could be vital.

All in all, it's very addictive. I feel I've definitely got my dollar's worth out of it already and I am by no means finished.

No personal experience, but the dev posted this on TA :

We developed this with the iPad 1 in mind actually While the iPad 2 and 3s run Autumn at 59fps, iPad 1s are still do respectably at 30+ fps for complex battle situations. Hope this clears things up!

Sweet, thanks guys. Gonna drop my $5 and check it out. I'm glad that devs are taking a chance not only with a organically developed RTS but with the premium price point. I'm one of the weird people who wouldn't mind seeing more $5+ games become popular.

I bought Plague Inc. this morning and mucked around with it on the train for a while. The best way to think of it (if you haven't played the other game it's apparently like) is the game in Wargames (Global Thermonuclear War), but with genetic warfare rather than nuclear.

So good. I feel like a bit of a cunt playing it, though! Especially ashamed when the London Olympics started and I did a little fist-pump :/

Lastly, I can't even figure out how to drive and shoot (another command that originally involved R2/L2, so maybe I'm just missing something here).

Other than these core issues, the game is amazingly competent. It looks great on my iPad 2, it runs flawlessly, and the remainder of the controls work well for me (though as with many other virtual sticks on iPad, I find the size of the stick a little too large, requiring me to drag my finger more than I'd like to get the character to move). I find driving around the city and listening to the radio quite enjoyable, while even the early missions give me problems because of the camera and shooting controls.

I haven't played more than 5 minutes of Chinatown Wars, but it certainly seems like the better choice for the platform. The simpler camera alone removes so many issues. That said, I will still buy Vice City (my favorite GTA) if it ever comes out, if for nothing else but to cruise around, listening to the radio.

Civ Rev for iPad just dropped to $1.99. Anyone have impressions?

I bought the iPhone ver a few years back, but never really got into it because it's a bit janky (I assumes its a DS port, based off of how it looks). Things like terrain feature disappearing when you scroll the map, and the low quality combat visuals. I love Civ Rev on console, and would love to have a portible version. Obviously the game should benefit from the iPad's larger screen, but are there any other differences between the iPhone and iPad versions?

Didn't think I would like Plague Inc, but I do. Fun stuff.

This was a good week. Satisfied with all of my buys.

Autumn Dynasty (game of the week for me), Gratuitous Space Battles, Slingshot Racer, LostStar Tactics, Plague Inc and Subway Surfers. All worth it. Though GSB was perhaps a bit overpriced, but the game is fun.

So, I reinstalled Windows. I moved my iTunes apps folder to a portable hard drive before reinstalling, and have now moved it back after reinstalling iTunes. Now iTunes will not list my apps.

Should this theoretically work, or is there some kind of anti-piracy thing going on here?

EDIT: Nevermind, got it working. Had to copy over a few database files that I missed the first time.

Oh!Cube is super awesome. The only bummer is that sometimes it doesn't fully recognize taps, which could lead you to getting sloppy and making a mistake.

Other than that, it's incredibly awesome. I bought it before it went free, and I don't regret it at all.

It seems it doesn't recognize taps if you move your finger in the slightest, because it thinks you want to turn the camera around.

And it makes the game unplayable for me. Picross is about relaxation and keeping your mind honed on the puzzles, not fighting over the horrible controls and being too distracted to think.

I also think that the finicky nature of Oh!Cube's controls make it frustrating and not worth playing. Literally all I can think about while playing it is how much of a chore it is because my taps rarely register.

There's nothing wrong with that, but you'll kill your iPhone battery pretty fast. That being said, the DS is obviously a better choice, generally speaking. Especially if you're expecting long gaming sessions.

Works really nicely on iPad imo. No online play, but the game is challenging enough that just trying to solo it is fun. There's a 1-3P version where you have a ghost player, but the 4P version you just control everyone and is the most fun imo.

Good to hear man.

Came here to post that I just bought Tigris & Euphrates for $.99, and now you're enticing me to get into Ghost Stores, Astro.

Also for anyone who cares, Battle Nations is getting some hefty support as of late. It's still good off-and-on fun for me.

And that Plague Inc game - I got Pandemic 2.5 for free through one of the free app dealies (forgot which one), and didn't really care for it. Seemed too confusing/boring and didn't like the presentation. What makes Plague Inc that much better? Games like these make me overly superstitious, just like the movie Contagion did. :lol
