After looking back through posts in the "best post thread" I began to wonder why people got banned(A lot of those threads are full of banned users). Maybe we can have a user curated thread where we can post information about why someone was recently banned and in which thread.

I am always curious about this and its better than asking in a random thread or a community that a person may/may not have been active in.

Also the advantage of the thread over that site is if someone is wrong then people can be called out about it. That site has no accountability.

Usually. It would be cool in a way but once you think about it, there are a couple of boards out there for pretty much this purpose.

I think it's a good idea. I've been a proponent for a thread only mods could post in that just says the username, the offending post link, and how long the ban is for. If they can't or don't want to the users might as well try.

I've thought of this but during the dark period of my life where I was a member at Something Awful they had a thread like that there. It was a cesspit. Leave banned members and their bannage to the other forums.

I was ostensibly banned for racism once, but in reality it was somebody completely misreading my post while on a banning spree. I was unbanned, but the banner INSISTED he had been more or less right. Which was frustrating.

Something similar happened to me, fortunately ToxicAdam came to the rescue asking why I was banned. I was referencing Chrysler workers smoking weed at lunch (all workers were white in the actual news report) and I got banned for racist comments - the irony being when I referenced smoking weed the first thing that came to the mod's mind was black guys, apparently.

Why are people banned? There is an all encompassing answer to your query; so new posters can rise from the ashes. It is an endless cycle, and it must continue.

They don't have a thread on Something Awful; it just tells you on the individual user member pages why bans occurred, the offending post and for how long they lasted.

Yeah SA has the Lepers Colony which is actually very helpful for letting you know why someone got banned so you can try to avoid doing the same-unfortunately that place has gotten so up its own ass in recent years that you can get banned/probated for nearly anything.
