There's no way next gen consoles will run a GTX 680; Star Wars 1313 needs a GTX 680
#1
To look anywhere near as good as it did at E3...
Watching that game in motion, it seemed like a reasonable step up into next gen. I think we can say with good certainty the 720/PS4 won’t have a GPU close to a GTX 680 equivalent. Will we not see games looking that good next gen on consoles? Minimal leap indeed =/

Nah man, nah. I mean, look at God of War 3. The PS3 is running on a 5 year old graphics card and can pump shit out like that. Consoles get optimized way better than PCs.

It just seemed like a normal step up from gen to gen. It's hard to believe this may really be the first time we see an incremental jump in consoles instead of a big leap like we always do.

you don't make graphics look good with a gpu, you make it look good with soul.
and i'm pretty sure ps4/720 will have a pretty good soul processing unit. |

Starwars is the least you can expect possible from a gtx 680 in a console. |

720p plus 30 fps.
So, no, it won't look like that, but it will look rather close. |

Star Wars 13241232341 didn't even look that good.
Now Watch_Dogs.....that looked good! For proof look at the gifs that were made for the two games.......they tell all. |

Its pretty common knowledge that it will be optimized for consoles. As for PC, GPU tech is always evolving, and there will always be optimization tweaks to get around it. That demo was running in the most ideal conditions possible for demo purposes. Keep in mind we probably won't see this game until late 2013 or 2014. A lot of things can changes in that timespan.

Eh, I'm sure they will be able to at 720p and (barely) 30 fps.

Well this thread wasn't a total waste. I found out Star Wars 1313 exists because of it.

I'd wager a guess that consoles "only" need a 560Ti equivalent in power to match the 680. There's a lot more neat optimization tricks you can do on consoles that are unfeasible on PCs due to driver overhead etc.

If yet another cover shooter doesn't make it to the next generation of consoles, I won't shed many tears.

Closed system does wonders.
Try running Crysis 2/GoW3/Uncharted 3 on a 7800GTX (RSX in PS3) with 512MB RAM and get back to me how that went. But, yes PC is better. But dont use thier PC showcase for that |

All we have are rumors and speculation on the PS4 and 720 specs. Anyone telling you "definitively" that they won't be able to run tech demos from E3 2012 is probably lying or has an agenda.

This. also being in a closed environment I don't know why people make direct comparisons between console development and pcs. People did the exact same with Samaritan. "It uses three gpu's no way this is possible on a console!"

There is no way that a console coming out will have games that look as good as a PC with a GTX 880 in 2014.
You heard it here first. Please quote "DennisK4" when referencing. |

Whatever ND do on PS4 look a good margin better than that...if you think that is the ceiling for next gen, you are in for a shock....it looks very nice, but like others Watch Dog actually impressed me more....1313 showed some fantastic effects and lighting, in pretty limited and small environments...
Anyway, the logic is flawed...who says 1313 is pushing a 680 to its limit? It can probably run 80fps on a 680 |

But a closed system wont need a GTX 680 to run that. Again, they code to the metal on consoles. Try running Crysis 2 in 720p on a 7800GTX |

Thats not anymore encouraging. You should be going off what developers say. Developers usually showcase pc games on the best available hardware. Just because they played it on a 680 doesn't mean it needs a 680.
