While that is true Zen Pinball (same studio) has one of the best 3D on the system. They even implemented AA in 3D - looks good. I expect the same for the end product here.

Most games do have little glitches, but if it's a well polished game then those glitches don't really hurt the game's presentation, and you'll have to go out of your way to even find them. But for smaller games like Art of Balance there's not much of an excuse for menu and graphical glitches like this. Then again, I'm guessing Shin'en is pretty small, so I guess I can't expect the same level of polish as I would from a much larger developer. (Though there are plenty of games from very small developers that are extremely well polished, like Cave Story, Mighty Switch Force!, VVVVVV, and Mutant Mudds.)

I don't know why it's so important to me, but it is. I define a lack of polish as a game feeling "cheap", in a bad way. Art of Balance TOUCH! definitely has that "cheap" feeling in quite a few areas, especially the menus.

Anyway, I'm probably nitpicking too much. I'm enjoying the game, and the graphical glitches aren't really getting in the way of gameplay for me. I probably sound like an ass when I complain about the littlest things like this, but I'm just wanted to see if there's anyone else out there who agrees with me. I'm not saying that the game is bad or anything, it just doesn't have the level of polish that I was expecting.

Also, I tried the other camera option once, but I didn't really like it. I'll have to try it again to see if it's any better. Thanks.
I was just teasing Tye :P.

If the glitches bother you, they bother you; that's fine. I certainly have aspects of game design that annoy me so would certainly not criticise you or anyone else for having them too, whether the same or different.

I am glad that you are enjoying the game despite this aspect however. I hope you take to the non default camera when you try it again as I have certainly found that far preferable.

Shinen are a very small team. Have a look at the credits and you will see what I mean. That doesn't excuse sloppy work however as you rightly say.

Almost ruined the game for me when I first fired it up.

In 2D, it does looks like reflective water but as soon as you turn 3D on the water turns into a waving cloth with a "reflection" painted on it. It's noticeable in both the screenshots and in the eShop trailer. It's obvious they render the reflection once and re-use it for both the left and right stereo images which is wrong since reflections are supposed to change with the viewpoint.

I cannot believe Shin'en, as technically talented as they are, managed to botch this.
I don't think I have even really looked at the water and probably wouldn't have noticed that if I had. You are however much more technically literate than I so I guess that ignorance is bliss for me eh? :)

Based on the GBVC experience so far, with no borders, no SGB palettes, no GBC-style color options, and - correct me if I'm wrong - no multiplayer support, I think the safe bet is that it won't.

Well, I think it's fairly simple extras from determining you're playing on a GBA. If Nintendo's friendly enough/Wayforward wants to put that effort in I think they could probably change the game so it's just available anyway. Unless this actually depended on GBA hardware, which I doubt beyond a check for what system it's on. If they CAN put that in then I hope the same applies for the Oracle games whenever they appear.

Actually Shin'en cut a few corners here and there. I did a small comparison thread not long ago.

From when I dabbled in GB homebrew yes, it was basically just a matter of the game asking which system it's running on and if the system returns GBA then it would load the special code. But since GBVC likely uses a standardized emulator of some sort, I'd expect it to simply return a GBC flag for color games and a DMG flag for all others.

I don't think any other GBC games with special GBA content have hit VC yet so there's no basis for comparison other than the complete lack of any sort of palette support for DMG/SGB games.

Yeah, it feels kinda rushed. The reflection thing bothers me the most because in real-life reflections look like they are "inside" the surfaces that produce them and are one of the visual effects that benefit the most from being shown in 3D.

Does the new Dinosaur Office seem to be in 2-D for anyone else? Not seeing any depth in the picture and moving the slider shows no changes, which usually means 2-D video. Intro and outro is 3-D, but the actual show appears to not be 3-D, to me.

Definitely. It's back from the screen in 3D, but there is no 3D to the actual objects. That's depressing.

I really wish they'd stop adding the damn 2D trailers to the eShop. I'm refering to the ones that have the warning that this is 2D video of a 3D game before they start playing. When the system first launched I could understand but it's been a year now. Those trailers need to stop appearing. Have on them youtube but they should not be on the eShop.

Nintendo Points are cheap once again, and as I don't have a DSi, I'd still like to buy the points in advance. What are the must-haves?

I'm thinking of
Art Style x7
Reflect Missile
X-Scape
Aura-Aura Climber
Starship Patrol
Go! Go! Kokopolo
Pinball Pulse
Looksley's Line Up

I'm not really interested in side-scrolling shooters/platformers, rather puzzle-style titles.

Apparently so. And I'm stuck again. ._.

I can't beat level 4.2 in World C no matter what I do. They've clearly changed something between Art of Balance TOUCH! and the WiiWare version, because a guide that I'm using for the WiiWare version isn't working for TOUCH!

This is the guide I'm using (I only use it if I'm completely stuck on a puzzle), and the solution for level 4.2 in World C just doesn't work at all in the 3DS version. I followed this video, but it just doesn't work. I've tried every other possible combination that I can think of, and nothing works. =/ Has anyone else here managed to complete this level in Art of Balance TOUCH!?

Yes, they have; I played the WiiWare iteration through from beginning to end more than once and although I am finding some puzzles familiar, I am getting the shock of the new too.

The key with this one seems to be getting the maximum height possible out of the pieces whilst still maintaining balance. Well duh! I find that if I place pieces just off centre to counter balance the weight in the structure below going the opposite way helpful.

Despite the shape of the base there is enough width there that one of the two starting pieces that isn't the triangle can be placed on end i.e portrait rather than landscape and still be a secure base. If you are careful with the balancing you should be able to continue that theme and manage it. I just re-did this puzzle for the sake of this answer and actually got to the goal line without using the last piece. The puzzle would not give me the satisfaction of completion until that last piece had been placed and the whole structure had stayed out of the water for the count of three, of course, but that was not a problem by then. It did however bork the puzzle by me hitting the 'top' of the screen with the last piece because the camera had not zoomed out to give me room, of course :x

If you wish me to state the order of pieces I used I am happy to but hopefully you shouldn't need it with the above :).

Nintendo Points cards don't work on 3DS as far as I know.

Anyway, I would recommend Mario vs DK, Mighty Flip Champs and Rabi Laby. Aura Aura Climber is not a puzzle game.

It would be really ace. I've skipped a lot of DSiWare stuff purely on the inconvenience of leaving the 3DS on DS mode (no Street/SpotPass, no home menu, no friend list...). And I think I'm not the only one.

Yes. Can I recommend you make it a cheap with a small number of levels and expand it with DLC? That way many will buy the base game to try it and you'll have bigger word of mouth.

For example I haven't persuade anyone to buy the DSi one. I am sure if it was cheaper they would bite

Sounds like a plan! It looks like Nintendo are a lot less strict on pricing for 3DSware so it'll likely be priced at a tempting amount!

Due to the amount of content and file size for the original, we had to offer it for 800 points, according to Nintendo policy, but cheaper titles always sell better! :)
