Nomura stated in 2009 that development would start. Before it the game was only in pre-production, so designing characters and environments. Between 2005 and 2009 nothing of worth happened. This is not Duke Nukem Forever that was remade four times.

The game's been around for so long that calling it FF15 is kind of disingenuous. FF15 should be an all new game we haven't seen, IMO. But if Versus kicks as much ass as Nomura's been implying and the trailers suggest, then sure, why not? The XIII brand seems to be its own thing now. It stars Lightning and friends and has a whole set of connotations but an excellent battle system. And an FFXIII-3 is a strong possibility. They just can't leave us hanging like that! Unless Versus is somehow connected to all the craziness at the end of 13-2... |

If it wasn't for their Eidos buyout their E3 showing would've been hilariously pathetic. Even with Eidos in there it wasn't that good.

I don't think I've ever even seen a trailer for this. Was there one back around the time it was announced? If so, I saw it and just don't really remember. What has been said about it in the last couple years? I'm not being a dick. I've just totally ignored as much as I can about the series since 13 came out. Is there any real reason to believe the game isn't being canceled? I guess that wouldn't make a lot of sense since I'm not sure what else they'd develop for consoles at this point. It certainly doesn't seem like they're interested in making a KH3. I think KH is a really great indicator of what happened to JRPGs this gen. In two games it went to becoming SE's second biggest series in the west, only to be relegated to handhelds this generation. Even with releases, it must suck to be a fan of the franchise. |

Basically it started to go wrong when they began to try to appeal specifically to western gamers and failed miserably...they already had a big fan base on ps2, they got complacent...I mean the psone and ps2 games already appealed to quite a number of western gamers, and certainly had massive profile

it's doubtful the budget ballooned since development was put on hiatus for a long time. The devs were reassigned to other projects in the interim.

at tgs 2010 (september) type-0 was shown and still marketed as agito, and then in january 2011 it was renamed.
i'm still fairly confident that they will at least drop the xiii even though the game has been known as versus for so long.
you can find all the trailers here with the newest at the top: http://www.gametrailers.com/game/fin...rsus-xiii/3498 the 2nd trailer contains segments of the worldmap and showed the first initial gameplay footage. the 1st trailer contains plenty of in-game footage. |

Late 2013 worldwide. I always anticipated this game from jump, but I really had no idea how lambasted SE was around the industry (actually, GAF is the only place I see this) for delaying it. And rebranding it FFXV? Not going to happen. Etro is one of the central plot devices this time around. Story looks interesting, and a Shimomura OST will make this Day 1 when it does come out.

It is quite sad, that that's the first thing that came to mind when I read the title. :p
But realistically, I don't know. I do hope it comes next year; but not expecting it. A friend of mine dies a little inside every time he sees it; since he loves Final Fantasy a lot. He graduated as veterinary technician, joined the Air Force was a little over a year there, returned and is on his second year of general medicine...and the game is still a mystery.

WHYYYYY did someone have to post a link to the 7min trailer... -.- Hyped again.
However, the in-game graphics DO seem somewhat outdated (I'm pretty sure Nomura said they made a huge overhaul of the graphics since then). I still have to wonder though... Versus's absence from E3 was predictable. But if they didn't show a localized Type-0, when can we expect to play THAT game? I was kind of hoping to see it come out in ~November 2012... But wasn't a good part of Versus' staff moved to FFXIII at some point? |

It's REALLY PATHETIC how this game could get announced and obviously only have a logo way back in forever ago.
This is now how you handle a major game with the FF name behind it. It's lazy and seems fitting of how Japanese game studios are perceived these days. At this point, I'm frustrated that we haven't even had some kind of playable public demo. 2014 it is. |

One has to wonder if Shimomura wrote the soundtrack over all those years, or actually completely stopped after composing the 2 trailer tracks.
I know she's been SUPER busy all those years but still, even if fragmented, 6 years of inspiration, research and songwriting can only announce promising results. I can't wait to hear that soundtrack! |
