People from Kansas have no inflection, or regional patois, apart from the accent associated with American English.

Is that better?

Posting from Kansas right now.

Assuming you have most of your teeth and a job, most people in Kansas have no accent at all. I've even been told that most of the speakers in "Learn English" instructional guides are from here also because they lack an accent.

I live her in Kansas and can verify. I asked a German foreign exchange student I dated about choosing Kansas and this was the reason. She couldn't understand a thing anyone said when she got off the plane in Dallas.

Also, some people around here call all soda "coke".

Sounds like he's from Kansas to me, at least the parts of the state I'm familiar with. I imagine southern Kansas gets more "twangy", but the northern parts are pretty much in line with Standard American English.

Yeah but not everybody necessarily has the stereotypical accent from where they're from. I'm from Massachusetts, born and raised, and while I pronounce some things with a Massachusetts accent, my dad's from all over the US and so I generally do not have the tell tale signs of an MA accent.

I live in Missouri although close to the Kansas border. As other have stated I've always heard the area around here has a very flat non distinct accent. We most definately don't have any drawl. What we do have are some specific differences even within the state such as crick vs creek or wash vs warsh. Lets not get into Pop vs Soda vs a 'Coke'.

My job entails calling a lot of different companies from around the US. I can tell you that for me I don't notice a difference in most of the midwest, really even all way to the west coat. Chicago stands out a bit, but just one state to the south Arkansas there is a noticeable twang. East coast accents really stand out to me, particularly east/northeast. To my midwest ears my contacts there always sound pissed off 100% of the time.

This thread has enraged me. Accent is subjective. No such thing as "no accent". Is Kansas supposed to be the most neutral American accent? Pretty sure that would be somewhere in the middle of the country.

Yes, yes, everyone has an accent. The point is that most people from the Midwest USA (Kansas, Missouri, a few others) have such a neutral, dictionary pronunciation that they are considered to 'lack an accent' when it comes to English.

Uneducated 'accents' that have been mentioned such as "warsh" or "chimbley" don't count, IMO.

I think they usually explain it as he stores the sun powers like an battery.

I remember comics where his powers were greatly reduced when he had been away for a while. Something with darkseid I think.

This.... The Midwest is known for its "accent less" talk which is a big reason why call centers are popular here.

Didn't he confront the writers of his comic and had them like, rewrite his life to be happy go lucky? Or was that someone else.

That's the thing. That's how it ended, but after the completely illogical Titans storyline, the Titans threw him into the Source Wall. :/

I always figured Metropolis and Gotham were more or less two sides of one coin, with no distinct location. "Somewhere around" NYC, and representing two different views of it. Bright and prosperous, dark and seedy.

There are a shit ton of call centers here in Omaha because our accent is supposed to be similar to the one they train newscasters/etc to use, so it's seen as the most compatible or some shit. I don't know.

It also helped that 800 Numbers and Omaha had a pretty interesting history. For a long time, if you called an 800 number you were calling a call center in Omaha.

Still didn't stop people from saying I was from India though when I worked in one of the call centers.
